I have been on here for about a month and have read many conflicting posts about tail lights. I want the 'rounded' tail lights seen in the following pics.

Some people are people are selling just the lights while others, such as heavythrottle's type-x kit, are selling kits with middle and lower body pieces and a lock and keys.

I have a 93 hatchback. What do I need?

Thanks

Where can you order those lights?
If this is already a post, please provide the link.

Thanks

Can you get them in Japan? (the lights on the blue car)

I have a friend that travels to Japan about six times a year. She might be able to buy and ship them back for me if there is a NOPI of Japan (hehe)?

The "Oneline" kit (the ones on the blue car) are not made anymore, chances of finding them are super small, better off buying R32 lights and modding them, but thats a lot of work.

About the 180SX tails, best bet is Nismoparts.com the guy with the white hatch (240 2NR) got em from there and said they came with all necessary parts.

u will need to get the whole kit. the taillights on 89-93 S13 HB's are completely different than the taillights from the 96.5-98 S13 HB's.

the newer ones are slanted on the inside, whereas the older ones come straight up on the inside. that means both the center-piece and under-garnish (the metal piece underneath the taillights) need to be changed. also, the newer tailights stick out in the middle further than the older ones, so u'd also need to get an extended lock & tumbler assembly. or u can try to find the metal piece, from the 96.5-98 S13 HB, that holds the lock & tumbler. that one sticks out further and u wouldn't have to switch the lock & tumbler. and lastly, u will need to rewire these taillights. these use different connections than the one on ur car.

again, it's best to buy the whole kit. or u could piece everything together, but u need all 5 pieces.

Cool, someone linked to my car.

In fact you do need all the parts. I got mine at nismoparts.com, though it has since changed formats. The kit still seems to be complete, though now sells for what mine cost including shipping (mine were $429 +shipping, now there's $459).

My kit included the left and right lamps (including bulbs), center panel, underpanel, locktumbler and keys, and new gaskets. The install is very straightforward. While they aren't the same shape, they fit the stock locations perfectly in terms of bolting in. The only odd issue is that the wiring harnesses, while similar in shape and wiring order, are dissimilar sizes, so the USDM one deosn't fit the JDM lamps. This requires you to cut and splice the two together (I think some company makes a coupler kit that adapts the two to work without cutting, though I don't know who). Just line them up and cut one at a time and it's pretty easy.

The only other advice I can offer is to warm the gaskets. The FSM recomends 140F. I did mine on a 40F day in october and they were very tough. Some time I think I may still need to warm them up and tighten the lights down more. They don't leak, but are not quite flush.

If I remeber, I'll post pics I have of both the stock and the JDM parts on my floor which may help clear up the differences.

I would assume that's the kit, however the format of the site has changed a lot since the time I ordered mine. I'm not sure if that reflects a change in ownership, management, or just a refreshed appearance (though the nissan inventory is reduced from what it was a year ago). If in doubt I would call and confirm everything is included.

I noticed that they are to be for a 180sx or a 240sx fastback. I wonder why they call them "Silvia" taillights. ...Different animals altogether.

Here are some pictures that should help to show the difference between the two sets of lights. The 180sx lights show everything that should be required. Notice that the parts even come in nissan factory boxes.

::shameless plug mode:: you'll also notice that my stock light set is for sale. Help me get them out of my parent's basement. Make me an offer. They're mint condition (only 50k miles, no winters) perfect for a replacement of cracked or weathed lights, or if you had rear end damage. I have the stock under panel and 3/4 of a roll of gasket left too.

if you want the complete Kouki Taillight kit I can get it . my price is $525 but if its in stock you get it immediately . I will not take your money and make you wait 3-6 months which is what Nismoparts has done to people repeatedly in the past. They sometimes have it in stock and ship right away but a lot of the time they do not and they do not tell you its back ordered till you have already paid for it. By the was Nismoparts is not Nismo U.S. It is a Nissan dealership in Washington that takes orders and has the parts drop shipped from Nismo U.S. here in socal.

Not my experience. I called and they told me it would be about two weeks before they shipped. Ended up recieving them 1.5 weeks later. I was pretty shocked when I came home to a 6' box in front of my door. Price was good, shipping was reasonable, and they came sooner than expected. Can't speak for others, but that's how it worked for me.

I saw them in the catalog at the Nissan Dealership in Daly City, CA two weeks ago for $250.

Brand new.

I believe it was in the Nissan Motorsports catalog.

that's gotta be a major misprint... the retail price in Japan isn't even that low. in fact retail in Japan is around $500-ish. IIRC Nissan Motorsports catalogs do not have prices listed in them (at least the catalogs in the past).

i've had both good and bad experiences w/ Nismoparts... the first set i ordered took only a week to get to me. the second time we ordered, 4 months... it appears that their shipping rates have gone up too...

Sorry to add a new post for this but I'm not allowed to edit my post anymore.

Found another picture that shows the difference in size for the wiring harnesses.

$250 is dealer cost.

I went by a dealer here in Georgia to get a Nissan Motorsports catalog. The light kit was there (99996-S13TL). When I asked how much the part was, the women looked in the confidential parts book, 250 dealer cost and 600 retail...ouchh!!!

I know an Infiniti parts mgr so I am hoping to get a discount through him.

I'll see what kind of discount I can get and then depending of the discount I might buy a few or ten. Then, I'll pass the savings along to people who will use them. Before you start emailing me, Let's just wait and see the discount.
