Hey, guys I wan't to get a kouki but don't really know how reliable they are. It will be a dd so the less problems the better. What are some of the problems that occur? Because I have a friend who works at a shop and he says hes always fixing his car but I think he just got a lemon.

It's a Nissan. Shouldn't be much of a concern. :)

if it's a daily driver, get a honda and be done

240's are not unreliable cars but any car older is prone to have problems.

that's part of the fun though, at least for me

any car can be a p.o.s.its all abot the car and driver. my 95 se has 216k and runs strong, oil changed every 3.5k. also if someone beat the car then your going to get a beat car and stuff is going to fall apart, just like anything

A car is only as reliable as it was maintained to be over the course of it's existence. If you get a car that has been poorly maintained, you will have problems. I beat the shit out of my car religiously, and have been doing so for 5 years now. I rarely have problems because I maintain the car immaculately, and the previous owner did as well. Hell when I bought it even the brake pads were OE nissan. I have had the same engine and drivetrain in 2 chasis now.

If you want something reliable, get a Camry.

agreed ^^^ my aunt drove her camry for a whole year with no maintenance and it still drives today with 280k miles.

is a kouki going to be reliable?????.... i say you spend some time reading before you start posting. the fact that it is a "kouki" has nothing to do with reliability. kouki is just the body style. again it has nothing to do with reliability. reliability has to do with maintenance. an s13 can be more reliable then an s14 and vice versa. yes an s14 "should" be more reliable since it "should" have less miles then most s13's however they both share the same engine. so as long as oil was changed and shit was replaced when it should of been replaced, yes a 240sx is a reliable car. read to see what common things go bad on these cars. you fix the common problems and its a reliable car!

really? damn.... i've had my 97 240 for 2 years now from 98k miles to 143k miles now. i daily drive it everyday. change oil every 3k miles. the only problem i ever had so far is the starter going out, but that's normal. the only other problem i have is some worn out bushings in the tension rods and tie rods. but, that;s normal too with all that driving. and that infamous power steering leak after 100k miles.. i gotta get my rack changed soon.

cars great =D love it.

just like any used car you buy..just take care of it and it will take care of you..there both good engines what matters is how they have been treated and taking care of..

Its just like any fucking car, you take care of it and itll be reliable. Also, what the fuck do mean by reliable? Shit breaking on it where you cant drive it at all or just shit breaking period? You want it reliable where it aint gonna break where you cant drive it, leave the fucking car STOCK!!!

Kouki's are waaaaay more reliable than Zenki's, so you should totally get one.

If you want reliable by a damn new car... Your buying a used car and its reliability has A LOT to do with the previous owners. Sure you can change the oil every 3k miles, but what if the previous owner changed it once every 10k miles, you just dont know. Buy something new, problem solved

It's not just about the oil. It is about all the fluids, did the previous owner do regular tune-ups, did they replace things like belts and hoses BEFORE they break, did they just drive the car with nagging driveability issues or did they have them checked and fixed, how did they drive the car, etc....

This thread is fucking retarded. Might as well ask if a Samsung TV is reliable, or a KitchenAid blender is reliable.

Reliability starts with the original build quality of the product and is then based completely on it's care. Anything can be reliable if treated well, just as anything can be a piece of shit if abused. There is no answer to such a vague question unless you have a specific car in mind and can document it's entire history, otherwise it's a toss up.
I've put a transmission, radiator, steering rack, and two window motors in my brother's Camry, which is supposed to be THE most reliable car on Earth. The previous owner treated it like shit, he doesn't do much better. If it was any other Camry it'd still be perfect.
