well this project has been going on for too damn long. so i'll catch everyone up with pics.

Starts off its life as an abused 12A 83 RX7 GSL (came with stock LSD!!)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/Picture018.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/Picture019.jpg

then came the lightening....

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RX6.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RX5.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RX6.jpg[/QUOTE]

and more lightening.....or does this count?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/rx7removal.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/rx7lift.jpg

seems to be getting light enough...

lets add some weight back in! 91 KA24DE motor (from a 150k+ mi car...)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/MotorTest.jpg

and then started some body work...which consisted of shaving the ugly trim pieces, and fixing all dents and dings...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/BodyWork1.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/BodyWork2.jpg

ANNDDD...finally some crappy paint, but atleast its one color..

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/bodyshot2.jpg

and added some powa...a battery and battery box..lol

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/BatteryMount.jpg

Then off to the custom shop!!! Making brackets for the mounts in first pic.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-2.jpg

boxing in old crossmember i cut out.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-3.jpg

making sure it fits before welding in the mounts...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-7.jpg

and poly mounts!!!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-12.jpg

And its in!!!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-15.jpg

and the hood closes with no modifications!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-14.jpg

now on to the cool stuff...how about a 6 point cage???

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/Rx7%20home/Cage12.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/Rx7%20home/Cage14.jpg

oh and i forgot to mention a new dash

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/Rx7%20home/Cage13.jpg

Up next is the custom 8" Toyota Rear end (with welded diff) with custom coilover suspension thats tied into the cage!!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RXsuspension4.jpg

and my slicks!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RXsuspension6.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RXsuspension.jpg

and i cant forget to mention the giant hole in my wheel well were the rust was...can someone say mini tubes?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RXsuspension2.jpg

Also by around this time i installed my Spec stage 3 clutch and short shifter, along with finished just about ALL of the wiring (minus gauges and turn signals)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RXengine4.jpg

and of course Finally where the "T" comes in with T-rx project!!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RXengine1.jpg

Also installed my SAFC Neo and mounting setup for switches..

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RX7Neardone4.jpg

and welded up my exhaust 3" from the turbo back, to dual 3" pipes.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/rxexhaust.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/rxexhaust2.jpg

and then where im sitting right now...i got some new kicks for the car...17x10's Enkie Rpf1's... (soon to be 17x9's in front)

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/EnkeiTestFit3.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/EnkeiTestFit.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/EnkeiTestFit4.jpg

17's VS 13's...lol

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/rimsside.jpg

and i'll also be running a 5mm sandwich out back to gain alittle more clearance...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/EnkeiTestFit2.jpg

Then i added a polished VC w/ letters shaved off :D to fool the foolish.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/RX7Neardone1.jpg

and some random pics of progress that i didnt put in order...

the fully boxed/reinforced X-member delete.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-9.jpg

and the tranny mount

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/RX7/TwistedRX7-13.jpg

newest progress.

well finally got some time to start dicking with this project. so out she came.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/Rebuild%20Time/DSC00602.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/Rebuild%20Time/DSC00604.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/Rebuild%20Time/DSC00609.jpg

And finally sitting in her home (probably for the next few months :( )

now i just need to find a FC 5 lug front suspension so i can get my front coilover setup done. and stick the 17x9 enkies on. Then im going to be sending the FC front off to PBmax to hopefully mod the knuckle.

anyone have a FC front hub/brake setup laying around they want to send me?

Awesome build man! I had a handful of FC's but always wanted an FB. Great choice of engine as well, my favorite! My little brother may have some Turbo II parts laying around, I'll see if he has what you're looking for.

lol its basically a ford 8.8. it was a simple swap (originally wanted to do a IRS swap. but this is easier/cheaper) Its tough and easy. so i the choice was simple.

thanks everyone else. my goal in the end is possibly make it down to one of the ASB's next year (if i get invited) i guess we'll see.

btw...no flags..lol, this thing is going gloss black w/ pink metallic flakes when its done. (after i get the kit intalled)

Very cool car, Id love to see the rest of this build. Since you were putting a custom rear end in it why didnt you go with indepentend rear suspension as opposed to a solid rear axle.

And to the guy that called it an "FB", I always thought the chasis code started with sa.... But I could be wrong....

HyperTek
12-10-2008, 06:30 PM
SA was the earlier carbed model.. FB was the later fuel injected model i think
something like that

SA is up to 80. 81-85 is FB. only the 84-85 GSL-SE models were FI. mine was carbed..

and i didnt go IRS in the rear because i didnt want to backhalve my car. (which is required) and i would have to use a Miata IRS Setup (which i wasnt sure how strong those were) so i skipped it. Solid axle should hold its own though. i guess we'll see.

as for flares...did someone say flares. I purchased some flares from AUS. (custom made) and then sold them, because i found out the ZG Z flares fit just as well and are about a 1/4 the cost. so thats the route im taking.

another reason my project goes so damn slow is because of the baller M3 project im doing.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d190/driftking777/SRBMW.jpg

88 M3 with a redtop SR. topmount setup with a Disco patatoe. its the $20k+ project.

Haha cool projects. I totally understand about the live rear axle thing, it's soooooo easy and for drifting especially, doesn't make that much of a difference.

Indy cars ran live rear axles until like 4 yrs ago lol.

Anyway, keep up the progress, would love to see this finished and out at the track.

Normally I hate on people who buy any gen RX-7 and take out the rotary and put in a piston engine. Don't buy a RX-7 if you don't want the rotary??? :S.... But, I'm digging this build. Nice work!

you betcha..

DOOK. Its not mine unfortunately. the money we have into that car is 3 times more than i have into my rx7. However the guy that owns the car is mechanically capable to do the project, so a friend and i are doing it for him. I'll take some more pictures of it this weekend when i go and finish up the wiring this weekend.

driftking777
03-22-2009, 09:48 AM
only thing i can do for the BMW pics is add an older pic of it before we actually truely started on it. First thing that got done on it was some GC coilovers and wheels..lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v371/JTfireandrain/E30%20BUILD%20PICS/100_1619.jpg

I keep forgetting my camera when i go out there. The wiring for the engine is being done right now, Full interior is now in (minus dash for now) and all the body parts are on. One of these days i'll remember my damn camera and take more pics.
