Hiee,

I am Jenny, I just joined because my friend told me about this site.
My car is over heating like crazy and everytime I drive to school, it woud smoke. I took the car to the mechanic and they said, that I need a new engine and the gasket is bad or somethin.

I got the car from my mom two years ago and it never had any problems.

What should I do? I am taking the metro during the mean time and I was wondering how much is a new engine. I don't have much money because I work part time and school full time.

Help me.

Jenny Y.

Save your money, and get a sr20. install and everything should be around 3.2k.
OR. do it yourself, and it will be whatever you pick the motor up for.. so around 1.0-1.8k depepnding on the motor. OR. You can save your money, and fix your KA..
All depends on what you want to do.

Is it the stock motor, might just need the head gasket replaced.

Sorry, the car is a 1992. It has the original engine. My mom was the original buyer since December 1991 when she bought it. The car has about 220k miles on it.

I am not a car person and I have no clue what or even how to change the oil.

I just want this car to be fixed. How much would it cost total for someone to changed what needs to be changed and get it running again?

I do remember the guy said something about a bad gasket.

The gasket is like 100 to 125 , its the labor that a killer i think around 800 to 1000.

Oh, okay.. Than you guys, you really helped.

I will probably just sell the car or junk it, I don't have that much money right now to spend, so I'll save up for a new car then.

Check out the regional section in this forum and ask around for a reputable shop. If USC is the USC in cali, there are a ton of cali members who can tell you where to go for a reasonably priced (and skilled) mechanic.

you can find a used engine for like 400-500 on average in good condition. A complete rebuilt longblock is like 1,000 bucks then you gotta pay for installation. nissan-240sx-91-94-ka24de-engine-long-block-nlbka24d2 (http://www.jisautoengine.com/nissan-240sx-91-94-ka24de-engine-long-block-nlbka24d2.html)

If you decide to get rid of the car, im sure there are many people on this site that would buy the car with a bad engine in it.

The problem here is that Miss Jenny isn't mechanically inclined to install or even find a good motor. Everything that she will possibly do is shoot in the dark since she can't tell good from bad motor or even if the guy selling it is full of shit.

If someone could offer up a helping hand and walk her through that would be great since I would guess this is what she was looking for to sign up and post on the forum.

Shes not an enthusiast, she just wants to get it up and running again.

Its certain that the motor is shot by now and that the oil looks like chocolate milkshake.

Jenny, go post up and ask around if anyone would be willing to sell and install the new engine for a reasonable price. Not everyone on here is out for a profit and there are some guys out there who love doing this just for shits and giggles

Good luck

^ what he said. You should be able to find someone(backyard mechanic, for lack of a better term) that will do it. Not a bad thing at all, many very skilled mechanics work for themselves at home. I would say if you can, fix the orignal motor. Hell if the car is in good shape it might be worth keeping especially since it been in the same family since it was new.

My GF attends USC!

If you can, try and find a lower mile motor and get it swapped in. I'm sure there will be tons of guys willing to do it for you if you just pout just right.

Johnson @ Shutoku Engineering has a few DOHCs and SOHCs laying around.

Don't junk the car, just sell it to someone on here, I'm sure you'll find a buyer. You could have it fixed, but I wouldn't trust my 240SX to get me to class every day, haha.

Post some pics of it in the calssifieds. I'm sure someone will give it a good home.
