I came across this on another forum and thought there would be atleast a few who would like to see and discuss this.
YouTube - New Engine Technology/Springless Valves (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inrBHHVVfng)
YouTube - Springless Valvetrain For Push Rod Engines! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXIdOTkJhEY)
I can't quite rap my head around the push rod version and am a little skeptical about the performance of the OHC design but it's still very interesting non the less.

Ducati desmos don't have springs.
that's why you have to check the clearance so much.

Ducati motorcycles dont use valve springs. They have 2 rocker arms. One rocker arm to open the valve and 1 to close the valve. Hence why you have to adjust the lash all the time. If they go out of tolerance it can cause some big problems.

What would really be the benefits to this? I mean I see what it could do in theory but in practicality does it really make any sense??

it is beneficial because you dont have to compress valve springs anymore. Also it eliminates the chances of valve float.
The detriments are that now you have added valve train weight since you have 2 rockers, and more reciprocating weight.
