I just threw money down the toilet! I have an s14, and I got a 3" catback (XS-Power. Shut up, I know it sucks) for free from a friend. Its stupid loud and raspy, and I liked it at first... now it's just annoying and makes my car uber conspicuous. So I measure the muffler tip, and come up with 4.5". Okay, that's cool. Go on teh interwebz, and buy a silencer for a 4.5" tip muffler. I pull up to my house after work, and BAM it's there. Pull it out, and go to test fit it... and it doesn't fit! The outside diameter of the silencer is the same as the outside diameter of my muffler! Bullshit! Gah! Looks like I have to take it to work tomorrow and see if I can machine it down enough to make it fit.
Fuckin silencers...

this isnt too bad really. I mean you got the exhaust for free right? you can always return the silencer, and not run your xs-power exhaust ^^

Exhaust has been on there like this for like 6 months now. The stock exhaust is LONG gone... plus it was rotten as hell.
The silencer isn't even worth trying to return.

Stock is gone. Stock was rotten. Stock is sitting in a scrapyard somewhere. There's no going back to stock.

With my luck, probably.
I'll just go to work, chuck up a piece of 4140 on the lathe and make a bushing for another silencer I have laying around. It's for a 4" tip, so I can take a caliper to measure my ID on my muffler, and make a steel 'bushing' so to speak to fit around the smaller silencer.
Fail at it's finest.

Sell it and buy a stock exhaust.
I sold my Ebay exhaust for 150$.
Bought a stock exhaust for 30$.
Stock exhaust still had a cat on it, so I took it to a place that buys them and got 100$.
So afterward I was left with 220$, and now I can understeer through people's front yards all night long.

My s14 didn't have a cat on the stock exhaust. It did on the header. Mine had a dummy cat in the place of the second cat. Factory too. There's no stock s14 exhausts around here... and shipping that heavy bastard... .ugh.
Any idea if maybe I can have a muffler shop weld like a magnaflow muffler inline on the piping somewhere? well... I know I can, but you think it will sound better?

my brother went to midas for them to custom make and weld a full exhaust onto ghey ebay tips. although ghetto. it sounds good pretty good imo.
but this was for a v6 accord tho. and it was about $200

Say NO to crush bends.
Anyway, FUCK STOCK EXHAUST. Jesus. No I'm not going stock. I just need it less loud and less raspy, without breaking the bank. I love the way a good exhaust sounds... and this isn't good. lol.

You have the 95 OBD1 s14, so do I,
Do you have an aftermarket header?
If yes, the best option would to get a high flow from an s13 DE, because once you remove the exhaust manifold your going to have nothing but noise.
Screw the silencer, it disengages any benifits you had with the 3"
Weld in a flex pipe=====Cat=====Resonator, best setup possible.

Um... I dunno if its OBD-I or OBD-II (Long story short, it's both). Yes I have a DC header. I'll just hit up a muffler shop and see what they say.

did you buy the silencer on ebay? the same exact thing happened to me with like a 4.5" tip silencer i bought on ebay that had the same outside diameter on the silencer as the exhaust tip. i thought how hard would it be for the taiwanese factories to fuck up a silencer? apparently, not that hard. i said fuck it and just went back to stock.

because, like Seto said... how hard is it to fuck up a silencer? And I paid for it. I worked for it. And it does nothing. I could have bought like 3 packs of smokes with that money! At least the smokes kill me isntead of just taking up space and mocking me.

I've blown an engine or two. My first S13... I spent countless hours cleaning it, fixing the motor when I got it, sanding and painting it... then three months after I put it on the road, it grenades from a problem unrelated to what I fixed. Pick up a motor for it, and it blows so much smoke and runs on 2 cylinders I give up on it cause I'm 16 (at the time, fucktards) and move on.
Its not a serious setback, its just gay that I bought something that's supposed to work, and totally doesn't. Like how the fuck are you gonna sell something that doesn't even come close to fitting?

Dude i have the XS power exhaust on my S13 SR and it's not that loud at all. Hell I thought it was quiet compared to my S14's true N1. But yeah it says N1 dual knock off on the reciept but if you put it side by side with a real N1 it's way smaller. I can't wait until I can sell it to get something better.(Was on a budget when everything went it). Like a blitz nur spec or if could find one a Veilside teardrop exhaust! But yeah just use that silencer as a paper weight or something. A. either go down to monroe and get an exhaust made up will be around 200-300 ponies or just go junkyard shopping and try to find a used exhaust!

True it doesnt make them as loud compared to a N/A car. I had a buddy walk into monroe with a N1 style muffler and they mad him a full three inch exhaust for 250-300ish was for his turbo SE-R 92 Sentra, it sounded really good.

That's what I'm thinking. $100 isn't much to spend. I mean, I already have all the piping, I just need a muffler welded inline, or a new muffler in place of the fart cannon.

brunswick240
12-09-2008, 11:27 PM
The oval is really kinda tricky sometimes when trying to fit it with 3" pipe. I say go with a 5" round (body diameter) and maybe something 12-17" long. That's what Im doing, Ive got straight pipes to 2 tips and its the loudest muther exhaust I've ever heard/had. Magnaflow makes these exact ones...check out summit MagnaFlow 14419 - MagnaFlow Performance Mufflers - summitracing.com (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MPE-14419&N=700+4294923429+4294922711+4294922710+400636+115&autoview=sku)
