View Full Version : Rain! (SoCal)
Rain is wonderful. :)
I took the liberty about 2 hours ago (3:30am-ish when I realized the cars driving by my apartment were making "shhhhHHHHhhhhhhhhh" noises) to take my 240 into the empty parking lot just next to my complex, and practice some "car control" moves in the wet. :D
I just thought i'd share my joy... and hope that the rest of you are having as much fun in the rain!
Drive safely!
I wish! :(
My car is currently stored for the winter. I can't wait for spring. :D

open diff poeple...rain is you friend
lsd people..i hate it!! ACK!!
d00d! you're the one with an LSD, why do you hate rain?? I don't understand! I was under the impression that driving in the rain without an LSD was harder/more dangerous.

first of all, i wont street drift in general. with new laws and increased police activity and knowledge of it, its not the smartest thing to do
secondly, i got at least8 big events this year and i cant waste my time screwing around and kiss a curb putting me out of one
thirdly street drifting is dangerous and against the law and gives a bad name to drifting as it tries to increase in popularity and not get thrown in with dumb street racers (drag)
also the LSD in rain is not fun going normal driving. make a turn and accellerate and the wheel spins, too hard and it'll slide a bit as well. i have to be more cautious in the rain.
street drifting doesnt help drifting increase in a good way in police's mind. this isnt japan (or hawaii-they got the mountains). california is strict enough sa it is, and its just drawing MORe attention to people and 240sx. making it a higher risk for people (my friends) who have SRs, and otherwise heavily modified cars (soon to be me w/ the SR).
street drifting doesnt help drifting in anyway shape or form, it only helps you and practicing in the rain isnt going to help you much on the track cuz you still got open diff and rain and dry tarmac are TOTALLY different feelings.

Rain is good, ice/snow is even better :D not good for acceleration though. Plenty of sideways action :D
:o I was actually just asking for an explanation on the technical side of why LSD in the rain isn't as good as Open diff in the rain, but I do agree with all you've said about street drift. I still think LSD in rain/wet/snow conditions would be better/safer than having an open diff!
{I do wonder what you were doing up in the bay area this weekend, though. ;) }

haha..nevermind.me and adey are friends.
you dont know difference of LSD and open diff?
deeeeeerrr...newb huh? ok here it is
lsd: both wheels spin at same time (equal power when driving/turning)
open diff: one wheel spins (one wheel has power-other just turns w/ no power)
drifting: need LSD
at the drag strip
both wheels smoking at burnout: lsd of some sort
one wheel smoking at burnout: open diff
drifting:
snap oversteer constantly: open diff
controlled slides w/ consecutive turns: lsd of some sort
open diff: bad
lsd: good

:( Damn. I do not have my fastback yet. I have plenty of money, I am just looking for the cheapest one (<$1000 is best) so I can use the rest on fixing it up. I am also looking for white and am racist against red ones. Anyone help me...
Well have fun and be safe.

dousan- might i ask what LSD you have?.. i was thinking of getting and s13 VLSD ($ reasons) someone told me that if youre buying an lsd might as well spend the extra money on aftermarket.. like KAAZ.. i disagree.

yo yo
NOOOO no vsld
junk junk
i drove a car w/ VLSD
blah so much lag it was worse then my
secret sports 2 way mechanical
i hope to upgrade soon....soooooon i hope. then sell this one (have like 4 possible buyers already-fyi)
anyways.
if you want to seriosuly get into drifting then to aftermarket. the differnece is NIGHT AND DAY
ask ny_jee on this forum. he knows whats up.
vlsd doesnt even compare w/ aftermarket (kaaz, nismo, tomei, cusco etc etc)

hey adey
i bought esteban's car :D
I was thinking about taking it out to one of the big dark parking lots in my area because of this surprise rain...but decided against it...the car might fall apart =P
what dousan said is correct, although i'd like to make a little ammendment. You can very easily experience snap oversteer in a vehicle with LSD as well. Impossible to recover, and very scary for the uninitiated ;)
Oh ****! haha you bought Estebans piece of ****!?! hahahaha I hope you didn't pay any money for it! Hey next time we go up, it'll be a more even match up. ;) No more brake fade for me!
hahah you guys like driving in the rain lol
i have to drive in snow all winter. I don't have an LSD. Just some all season tires is what gets me around. Up here in Alberta rain is a luxury when it comes to driving weather. Only in the spring and summer we get some decent sunny weeks.
I have to admit it is fun drifting around everywhere.
:)
Have fun while you can :)

Yeah, we had a LOT more snow this year than the past two, great time to buy a 240 with an open diff....At least it's fun in snowy parking lots, just watch for ice under snow...damn i need a LSD, screw the headers for now...i hate hitting the gas and slowing down since only one side goes :(
