Alright, I bought a '92 240sx coupe as a project car initially going to do a LS1 swap. Part cost added up very quickly after picking up wheels, suspension, brakes... etc. The car is basically stripped down and I am frustrated and pondered just throwing the KA back in but find a 5speed tranny then selling the car off.

This is where the problem comes in to play, I got a friend with a S13 silvia that has a redtop sr20det that he spun a bearing and it is now in the state of rod knock. The tranny is in good shape and the clutch seemed to be fine, I talked over prices to him for the complete motor set plus wiring for $500. That being said I'd have to do a bottom end rebuild with that in mind I would up bore and go with over sized pistons along with a performance crankshaft, along with everything else replaced clearly, also pricing and what company of crankshaft I should go with?

I'm rather uneducated on what would go along with the sr swap seeing I've been in a completely different mindset with the LS1. What other things would I have to upgrade when going to sr20det, can I run the same radiator/fan as I had with my KA24DE? I assume that I would have to upgrade to a 255lph fuel pump, is there anything else?

Thank you for any input and yes I am in research mode trying to find out what I would be getting myself in too, along with reading endless build threads haha.

stock crank for the sr is fine
so many things to upgrade
depends on your goals/plans and budget.

you cant fidn what u want because u dont have a plan
make a plan first of power goals/reliability/cost and go from there

there are lke 800 different routes u can take
cheap to expensive.

Geez... I haven't heard this question before. If you initially planned on doing an Ls1 swap, and you did all the research on it, how is it that you ran out of money?

Priorities, school... lacking money?

I was just wanting to go with a mild build, don't want to dump too much money into it other then just having it run but not cheap out. I am setting it up to be a grip race car.

Wait.. that's a total contradiction. You want to drop an Ls1 into a 240 so you can grip race, but you want to do a mild build and don't want to drip too much money into it?

I had BIG things planned, got into it and realized I do not want to drop $15+ into a 92 240 but still want to do a fun grip car for under 9grand. Now please just leave if your going to attack me I am here for advice not a headache.

Well like your planning, your research sucks.
