Hi!
I have a jdm 1989 silvia with a sr20 transplant(was ca18 before).I kept the original cluster but I don't have rpm reading. Is it because I need a sr20 cluster....All the wiring is ok also....Also my friend swapped my old ca18 in is 1993 240sx and his cluster works. So logicaly Ca cluster=ka-de cluster=sr20 cluster.......

What could it also be?

you just need a tach from a dohc 240.

I guess so but....My cluster worked with the ca18(duh) ...and my friend cluster with a my ca18(his car was ka24de before) works also. So CA18=KADE and KADE=SR20 so logically CA18 cluster should work with a SR20 engine??

Maybe you didn't wire something correctly when going to SR20DET? Double check..?

Try borrowing your friend's cluster and see if it works in your car..

You can get the sr rpm to read on a single cam tach. You need a dual cam. Don't know about the ca but that's how it works for the sr. You can also get a msd tach signal pick up part # 8918 and run an aftermarket tach. Thats what im using now. Very easy to use.

yea, the CA cluster should work with the SR since they're both DOHC...

probably bad wiring if you know your tach is good.
