I have a S14 w. w fixed antenna - since I nearly never listen to the radio I'd like to install a retracting unit. I picked up a used S14 power ant. assemly that came out of a 95 I believe.

I'm using an Alpine headunit ~2-3 years old.
I have standard 4 speaker audio - any factory amps etc have been removed if I had them by the prev. owner.

Does anyone have details on how to wire up the power antenna?
Do I need the timer box?

Thanks

I recommend that you count your blessings and keep your fixed antenna. Nissan power antennas are known to be problematic with age. At some point they'll stop working completely and just make whining noises.

If you still insist on having power antenna, 95 S14 power antenna has a built-in timer and do not need a time control unit (TCU) like on other models.

Wiring is simple:

black - ground
orange/green - 7.5A fused constant power
green/white - hook up to the antenna wire on your radio deck, usually the blue wire on most aftermarket head units

That's it. Good luck.

EDIT: You know you should pay me for being nice to you.

Thanks for the reply - the ant. unit I got didn't come w. the wire connector.

However I do have a couple of connectors that I clipped off of a 300zx parts car that will fit.

Do you happen to have a picture of the connector so I could see the position of each of these wires?

The FSM does.

But as said above, it's a simple three wires, no timer needed.

Do you want me to come over and install the antenna for you as well?

I don't know if your car is pre-wired for power antenna. If you are, then you can just clip the harness connectors off of the body harness and make your own connector.

If not then you have to run your own wiring any way so the factory harness being on the antenna won't help you.

If you're miraculously prewired and you're super anal retentive then go find an antenna harness from a 95 S14 and bring it to me. I'll solder the harness onto the antenna for you.

Dude - settle down.

I'm not a kid and I'm not some yahoo boy-racer wanna be, axing on how to pimp my ride yo.

I damn sure know how to solder.

I know 300zx's inside & out, feel free to check my post history on TwinTurbo.net if you need a reference.

It's my 1st S14 project, which after years of it sitting in storage I've finally put all my Z32 work on hold so that I can get this thing on the road.

I asked a simple question, I explained why I wanted to install a power antenna, and I understand that around here it may not be the "just delete it for weight savings" approved method.

At no point did I attack you, be thankless or ask questions without giving you as much information as I could think would be useful.

I don't expect my '97 to be prewired.

I have a '97 FSM - assuming the color codes didn't change I'll check there for
the wiring info.

The antenna unit I got didn't come w. the wire connector - I have a connector from a 300zx that will work but the colors you mentioned are of course not the same.

I was hoping that someone would have a picture of the connector w. the wire colors & positions visible so that I could match your post to what I have.

Sorry for whatever offense you seem to have taken w. me.

I recommend that you count your blessings and keep your fixed antenna. ALL power antennas are known to be problematic with age. At some point they'll stop working completely and just make whining noises.

Don't cry. The FSM has all you need. 97s are NOT prewired, as it was only a standard item on 95s, optional on 96s. I do believe the Z32 plug is the same as you mentioned so just use either FSM to match up wire colors, you can also surf a 93-97 or 98-01 Altima FSM, they use the same unit and have the same plug. Whatever color corresponds, wire it that way.

It's ok. I recognized your name and I'm local so I could run those wires for you in about 5 minutes, but if you have everything under control then it's ok.

I am not sure what pictures you want, and how the pictures would help you. I already told you the wire colours you need to hook up to the antenna. It's just constant power and antenna trigger.

The speaker amps have nothing to do with the antenna so this information is irrelevant.

I am 99% sure the antenna trigger wire is blue on the headunit.

You need to use your FSM and see if you have the power antenna harness connector already on the body harness. If so then you can make your own connector. If not then you'll have to run your own wires as well.

It's just 2 wires. If you have the factory harness than even if the wires are discoloured you can use a multimeter and figure out which one is constant power and which one is antenna trigger. Ground can go straight to the body.

I don't know how simpler I can make it for you. If you're as good as you claim to be then it should be no problem. Good luck.

fixed that for you

Being how this forum is for S and Z cars, I thought it was fair to say Nissan, but thanks for the fix.

Not trying to be a pain here and I appreciate the info.

I'll take a closer look @ it this week - If I run in to issues I hope you don't mind if I reach out over PM.

Have you thought about using an aftermarket amplified antenna that mounts on your window glass??

Yes I considered that - but I got this whole oem assembly for a reasonable price and figured it would get the job done for my limited needs.
