DriveShaft Question..?

SO have been noticing that the yoke on my draft has been forming cracks for the last couple of months and recently I have checked and noticed bigger cracks with gaps. I call the dealer and they qouted me $825, he also said I should ask a driveshaft shop to check if it is fixiable.. What are my options. The car is my dd. Should I go stock...? :faint:

Note that Nissan calls the shaft from the gearbox to the diff the "propeller shaft". People in the industry calls this the "driveshaft".

Nissan calls the two shafts that connect the diff to the wheels the "driveshafts". People usually call these "axles".

If you have a parts guy that has no industry experience he won't know the difference, and will tell you what's in the computer. Be careful that you got the right quote.



I do not recommend replacing a broken 2-piece OEM propeller shaft with a new OEM 2-piece propeller shaft. There are many problems with the center carrier bearing on the OEM design.

I highly highly recommend a 1-piece propeller shaft/driveshaft from the DSS. Great people and great service. Call them.

As for aluminium or steel, you can ask them on the phone and they can help you.

Very interested in this 1 piece you guys talk about. Is there any fit-ment issues or any weird driving characteristics I should be wary of. I already have a fidanza light wheight flywheel. I noticed the 1 piece shaft are alot cheaper the new stock one.:eek:

I used to have a stock one, with the shitty bushings that vibrated everytime I start driving. when I switched to one piece all that went away. and you have less bolts to worry about. just stick it in the trans, and bolt it to the diff and your done. And with a lightweight flywheel it will help put even more power to the ground. It really is one of the best investments in my opinion.

No fitment issue whatsoever. Make sure you talk directly to the DSS first so they can help you pick out the one for you.

I know the people at DSS very well and have worked with them many times over the years. I am very confident that if my DSS shaft were defective, I can be on the phone with them and have another one shipped to me ASAP.

They did my custom World Class T5 to Pathfinder R200 steel driveshaft with shorter length (motor shoved into firewall). Fits perfectly with no issue at all.

The OEM design vibrates a lot, and if your center carrier bearing is broken, you will feel the driveshaft flying around under the car.

i have a dss 1 pc aluminum and its amazing. way way way lighter than oem and much much shinier (this is important).

This has been discussed before. There are some issues with aluminium shafts. DSS can discuss all the pros and cons of aluminium with you directly. Best to hear it from the source directly.

I know 240sxmotoring.com has a special for abt $100 less than DSS offers theirs for. Note that the product offered from 240SXmotoring is from the Driveshaft shop. So it's the same product for cheaper.

I have a friend with a Z32 TT who has the aluminum one-piece. He loves it but there is a strange med-pitch whine from it for a second at certain RPM's. I can't hear it in the cabin since he installed his Greddy catalyst-back exhaust. :)

Koo. I just heard that their might be some kind of mounting problem when hooking it up to the trans. Otherwise I aint really worried about no noise. The flywheel already gives some of that. thanks for the advice. Steel might be my option. :rimshot:

Are you sure its from the DSS?????? Mine came with no markings ect on it to prove it was. It works just fine and fits wonderfully tho.

Well, well...after further examination it would seem to be true. I had been told quite some time ago it was the same product...but their page says nothing to that point. :smash:

nope, no fitment issues at all. just make sure you specify abs or non-abs. there is a difference between the two.
