Ok i have searched and there are like 5 diffrent answers.
1. no
2. yes
3 yes with diffrent flanges
Ok if its no then why? If its the flanges then can i put my stock ones on there to make it work? Is this a bolt on deal with the flanges? Also what is the ratio compared to stock? as i see 4 or 5 different ones whe i use the search button. thanks guys

From what I've read it won't fit at all and it was just speculation that it would..... not completely sure about that though.

NO
It is a physically larger differential... R230 (230mm ring geear)versus the 240SX's R200 (200mm ring gear).
Only R200 diffs designed for multi link rear suspensions fit at all easily (and you're still left with two different types of output flanges, two different types of rear covers, ABS sensors).
There might be a way to get the Q45 diff to mount, but I believe the flanges are totally different (six evenly spaced bolts...?). You'd need to shorten a set of Z32 TT axles or something... maybe get some axles from a JDM Leopard J. Ferie (basically a J30 with a V8)... haha.
Yeah, basically don't bother with Q45 stuff.

unless its a q45 throttle body, but even those take a good amount of work to modify.. but they are huge..
also, i think someone did a write up about swappin Q45 brakes in.. but the z32 set up is still a more logical choice.. i think q45 brakes have less pistons than z32 and are even rarer.

Yeah, Y32 Q45 brakes are dual-piston... the rotor is the same size as the Z32 though. Good for wheel clearance. But they are rare, and good luck finding high performance brake pads for the Q45.

Is it possible to swap any pumkin (other than 240's)
Would there or are there and advantages to using other diffs?

Well, I just bought some Q45 brake calipers off of e-bay for $60 (no shipping cause the seller is like a town over). I'll be picking them up this week. The reason I decided to go with the Q45 calipers (aside from the cost.... $60 for all 4 calipers!) was the wheel clearance. They fit under the stock steelies from what I've seen (which means I can use my winter tires over them). Even though performance pads are harder to find, at least you can get slotted/ x-drilled rotors off of EBay. My hope is that the rear drum e-brake assembly (or even all 4 rotors too) will work with the Z32 brakes, which will make it easy to upgrade later on.

Rotors are easy. You can get rotors for anything anywhere... even ones that don't have useless holes drilled in them!
And actually I just looked it up... turns out Porterfield makes their whole lineup for the Q45 (R4, R4S, and R4E)... and it also turns out that J30 front brakes are the same as the Q45 (at least the rotors are). But the rotors are different from either Z32 rotors, even though I'm pretty sure they're the same diameter.

It would work with regular 3x2 type flanges if you could get the diff mounted, which is the hard part. Also a leopard is an M30, a J30 is a usdm only car.

ok, you guys all need to take a wander over to the faq section. view my VLSD right up. It pretty much clears up the debate but for the sake of it I will post something here.
q45 diff is not a R230!! seen lots of them! It is a R200 with a catch. the input shaft has a much larger driveshaft flange on it.
It also runs 370 gears.
I.E. do not waste your time with it . There are plenty of J30's out there . They work fine.
