View Full Version : Electric Fan Wiring (I searched)

I am installing a 14'' fan into my car and I alreday removed the ac fan and clutch fan. I was wondering if I could wire it up to my ac fan harness.

You probably could. I don't know what temperature activates that harness though. In my spat with electric fans, I wired directly to the battery and to switch (or thermostat, if you have one).

Why not just wire it to a fuse and it'll be on when your car is on. As far as switch, you will most likely forget to turn it off and drain your battery at some point in time. Or even worse, forget to turn it on and let your car idle at a drive through or something for a while and overheat.

No no no no!! Don't wire it to a fuse to be constantly on. Spend those $16 and get your self a thermo sensor. Reasons for this: First of all, i dunnow what you are using, but i am using the 14" permacool fan that flows almost 3000cfm. When the thing is on, my wheel starts shaking like a crazy mofo. And the fan is on ONLY when i hit traffic on a sunny day. I dunnow your weather specs, but i live in MD and my fan wasn't on since mid december.

Now for the wiring: I wired it to the fuel pump fuse inside the cockpit. It then ran throught the sensor and through the fan after what i grounded it. The setup is working fine since about mid october.

Wow, 3000cfm? My stock ac fan has worked great so far (with only 75 degree weahter and sun though).

Right now I am using the Flex-a-Lite dual fans from summit. It works alright. I have it wired to 12v power so that when the car is on, it is on. I did it that way because my engine runs unusually hot. Just my 2 cents..

Kreator where does the thermo sensor take its reading from. Is it air? Coolant?

Most take the reading from the coolant. Mine mounts on top and is pressed against the radiotor hose near the engine.
