Fitted my Teins this weekend on my 180SX, I fitted them with the height set at the lowest position [:D]

It looks excellent, and the only downside is the that my Blitz exhuast hangs a bit low to the ground where it passes under the diff

The only thing is, the car is only used for drifting, so I want the best set up for drift possible. On asking a friend on what camber and toe settings he reckons best to use, he said that I will find it hard drifting with the height set on the lowest position ?!?!

Is the the case ? What height settings have people got the coilovers set to ?

And what camber/toe settings are people running ?

Thanks

Ade

your friend is an IDIOT

if you are gong to drift. i hope you have an LSD because if you dont, your just powersliding.
haha

anywyas, mines low and i drift
you DONT NEED suspension to drift well, you need LSD

you can set it to whatever height you want, lower is good BUT only if you take care of a few things:

roll fenders
stiff spring rates
high stiff valving
fender lining removal

then you wont get tire rubbing your fenders

as far as settings go...if you are beginner leave them stock settings. when you get better and learn more then start to play

i have Tein HE btw and custom camber/toe/caster settings. secret drifter setup. i wont tell you because its obvious you are new, no offense meant just learn on stock setups first to learn about yoru car, THEN start to try new stuff.

hey easy back there dousan...
his setup was done by a guy who drifts quite a bit. His car is also setup for drifting only, not a street car (from my understanding), so he's going about this the right way.

I don't know anyone (on this board) that has a separate car thats for fun only/comp. only. So in this instance I think it's a good way to get going if he starts with someone else's proven setup as a benchmark, rather than guess and checking his way through an insurmountable level of variables.

Hey! my 240 is my "fun-only" car... but I end up driving it most of the time, because it's just so much fun!! =D

if his friend drifts so much why did he tell him his car it too low????

cuz that's BS.

...are you talking to me? ....
If you were, for the time being I don't, but I'll get some sooner or later. I have about 2" of room to lower it. :) It'd look SWEEEEEET like that, but my driveway is super steep, and I scrape with it already with 1" gap on the rear and 1/3" gap up front. :(

edit: okay never mind, I realize the original poster was called "ade". :) I thought you mistyped "adey". sorrs!

Thanks Yoshi, I take it you saw my post on VRT :)

Yep this is my drift car, its only used on tracks and for drift events, not as a street car. I have a 1995 WRC Toyota Celica (ST205) for that :D

The freind who helped me to install the suspension (who Yoshi was on about) is Pazza, who sometimes comes on this board and drifts in his AE86. But the friend who told me its too low to drfit is Mat, who trys to drift his Onevia (S13)

Thanks for the posts and info, but I dont feel I am any further to knowing

The reason I ask for what settings to use, as I dont know how to set this kinda stuff up myself, and over here in the UK its gonna cost me £70 GBP ($115 USD) to get it set up. And I cant afford to keep changing my mind on the set up, thats why I wanted to know which figures/settings to tell them to make it.

Here are a few pics we took yesterday :

Any help will be really appreciated

aaaaaah ok ok
too low i was thinkgina bout it, maybe your spring rates are too soft=fender rubbing and too much body roll

my settings

front:

-3.5 degrees camber
1/8 inch toe in (makes turning radius smaller-good for counter)
caster is getting shortened a bit this week (tape measure it). more camber turning also prevents the rubbing/grinding at full counter

15x7 +27 w/ a 30mm bolt on spacer and 205/55/15 Dunlop FM901 tires

rear:

-2 degrees negative camber
all other settings stock/at 0

15x7.5 +17 205/55/15 Dunlop FM901 tires

suspension:
adjustable TC rods
2 way LSD
Do Luck RXB
JSpec FLB
Cusco TC rod bar thingie
stock sway bars
Tein HE 8/6 kg coilovers.
my car's height:

i dont run into problems w/ it being low on the track..street. that's another story. your car is lower then mine, so i can see soft spring rates as being the biggest concern. i dont know what model of teins you are using.

i make 13x RWHP w/ a RS*R catback exhaust. Stock KA24DE (na engine)

i am on the track drifting 1-3 times a month.

hope that helps.

Thanks

I've got the Tein HA's (dunno which springs) with Cusco pillow ball mounts

I have an LSD, but its the stock Nissan viscous one, not great, but I will be installing either a 1.5 or 2 way Kaaz one sone :D

Power wise, I have the CA18DET producing around 220-230hp

I aren't getting any body roll, it really feel nice and firm, my mate, just said it will physically be to loww to drift

too low..interesting.

i suggest removing the fender lining up front
tie up the wiring harness out of the way that's up there too. your tire will rub against it and chew out the wires FAST. iv'e seen it happen to a few others

being to low..i dont know abou that, but your friend sounds expirienced. just set full dmper and go nuts. tuning at the track is another option. try it as it is and then raise it 20mm or so..then try again...that's the best way i've found is just lots of expirimenting.

same goes for caster/toe/camber settings. when you change it, you'll feel hUGE changes (at least i do) on the way it responds and handles.

best bet to play w/ at the track and easiest is the camber. just jack it up and go negative, run some laps see how i feels.

but the being too low..im clueless on that hahaha..

HAs are like...6/5kg? or 6/4? or something in that range...

It looks like your car might really actually be too low.. Technically, when a car's ride height is altered, its imaginary roll center changes, along with its center of gravity being lower to the ground; effectively, a car that is 'too low' will see radical changes in its alignment settings as a wheel travels through its stroke.

A crude way to see if your car might be at a poor ride height would be to check the lower control arms and see if they're parallel to the ground. Also, check the steering control arms and make sure they're parallel to the ground. The arms being parallel to the ground offers a rough suggestion that you'll be retaining linear alignment deviations throughout the strut's entire stroke.

dousan36, what do you mean when you say you're going to shorten your caster..?

i probably said the wrong thing

full counter the tire grinds against the chassis. i have adjustable TC rods. if i shorten them (pulll the wheel to front more) it gives more camber when turning as well as gets rid of the tire rub.

i have a "bald" spot from the rubbing on my car. its nice and shiney there. sounds HORRIBLE when at full counter.

they go to all kinds of chassis electrical parts like your lights (kinda important :p ) so just move it up out of the way of the tire.

Got Sileighty?

yea get that wiring harness out of the way OR have a whole lot of electrical tape to cover up the part that is being rubbed by the tire and add layers and layers of it every few days :hsdance:

hey ade, too bad your pics arent working, i wanna see how low the HAs can go.

haha it's beyond that i wasn't driving the car for a while so now i gotta take it apart and rewrap each wire.
