Hello all, thanks for the reply in advance.
I ordered a S13 SR Black top for my S14 95. The guy tells me he has a complete front clip so nothing is cut and looks clean.. so i decide to go through with it and buy it. When it arrives (to my surprise) it's not an Black top but a Red Top!!!!! It's strange cause the engine looks A1 clean and turbo looks brand new...
One question i have is that on the firewall tag.. it's written SR20 (DE) not DET.. is it normal that Nissan wouldn't have written down that it's turbocharged on the engine code??? Or this car was built N/A and transplanted an DET in it?
Also i have the engine serial number... and chassis number.. how do i find which year is which!
So thank you in advance for your replies even though i'm a newbie!
:( (I'm dissapointed right now)
Hey Marie Claude.
Post everything up.
My guess is that this was a transplanted engine. Write us the complete Chassis-code and we'll be able to help you out.

On the firewall tag it was written:
E-PS13
PS13-010216
PS13HACM29
1K4 G
SR20 (DE) 1998 cc
RE4ROLA RB41
Plant W
On the engine it was : 050991
Oh and the front looks like this: http://www.geocities.com/slidesquads13/frontend.html

PS13 means it could've been Silvia J, Q or K. So basically, that engine a swapped SR20DET engine or a turboed SR20DE engine, hence, the modifications you told me about.

Silvia Q's
Year : 91
Power : 140ps/6400rpm
Torque : 18.2kg/4800rpm
Engine : SR20DE
Driving Type : FR
Length : 4470mm
Width : 1690mm
Height : 1290mm
this is what your body style is with a transplanted motor, probably from a k model 90, 91, but thats not definite. but that is not the correct motor for that car

dont be dissapointed, the motor u have is more "buildable." just go through it and make sure the motor is in acceptable condition. throw the silvia conversion on your car, "if your into that", and get some money back because the redtop is cheaper than the blacktop.
ps. if you dont like the silvia front conversion, then sell it and recoop some money

Thanks for the info, it will help my decision of buying it or not..
But is there a way of knowing from what the engine comes and what is it (without opening it and taking it apart from the front clip) to see if it's an Turbocharged DE or stock DET and which year? I'd hate to buy and not know where it's from (me don't like surprises lol)
actually, since the car has chassis code PS13, it means it was produced between 1/91-9/93. Also, the SR20DET redtop was produced in these years...
IMO, the best way to verify if it's a transplanted SR20DET or a turbocharged SR20DE is to verify compression on the engine. The SR20DET has lower compression than the SR20DE, am I right?

How come it's more buildable?!?! i'm not into body modifications.
I like the way my 240 looks now.. and i paid for a Black top... and i didn't buy the front clip. i bought the engine in it.. the body is still his...!

She has an S14 and she's just getting the mechanics from that clip. S13 Blacktops are not more expensive here in Montreal... They go at the same price so she should get a blacktop if it's available to her.

Oh something i didn't mention (though it cannot prove anything)
It had purple injectors.. i think those are 370cc..?
So it may be a DE with injectors upgrade or Stock DET...?!
Also had a O/D light in the dash near speedometer.. so it's possible it came stock Automatic too???????????? Or maybe they didn't bother changing it for Standard or Automatic...!?

then definetly dont purchase, or get your money back. As you said, " you didnt want a redtop" and that is not the correct engine for that car. Something smells in denmark, if you know what I mean

Stock 370cc injectors. Tends more to be a Stock DET swap... but then again, injectors are easy to find and interchangeable...
Did you get the ECU number?
Did you notice anything else? does everything look stock?

Well, Side Mount Intercooler. The turbo piping looked changed.. but the turbo is a Garret and looks like a T25... It's very hard to tell if it was a swap.. cause everything looked like it was in it's original place.
On the car it had suspension with adjustable camber plates. Other than that.. nothing special...!
My guess is engine transplant... But it's such a risk I wouldn't touch it with a 10 feet pole.
Then again, getting a motorset is a bigger risk and that's what I did! ;)

I think he means that the redtop is more durable and you can build the engine stronger.

S13 blacktop are basically the same but much newer.

I'd tend to think that Black top is more reliable, because it's newer.. would be less damaged (less abuse on the engine) and less mileage! Since i have a 95 i don't think putting an older engine is a good thing ( don't flame me if it's your setup, but it's my opinion when you pay that much money you want something better, not swap for older IMO)
But you can find a less abused Red Top and a completely blown newer Black Top! It's all a matter of engine care!
I think i'll pass on this engine.. too much unknow stuff about it... too much mystery!
