just thinking... from cost to fitment.

I'm looking at (don't hate) some xxr 962.

17x9 all around. or

18x9.5 back and 18x8.5 front

I'm not planning on slamming it because I live in canada and the roads = shit.

But in general, do you think 17s would be easier/cheaper to work with or is it realy just as easy to fit 18s and is then just a matter of opinion.

Thanks.

17 inch tires are usually cheaper

If you are on a budget then obviously 17 is more ideal

I see. would the cost difference between a 17' and an 18' tire be that substantial?

I see. would the cost difference between a 17' and an 18' tire be that substantial?

That's a pretty broad question

It depends on the brand / model of tire, what sizing you could run, etc

You should do research on tire pricing in your area, which will probably make your decision for you

But for example:

CITY TIRE ONLINE (http://www.citytireonline.com/Federal595.htm)

Federal 595's

215/45R17 is $58.00

225/40/18 is $74.00

Assuming you would compare a 17x9 to an 18x8.5 or 9.5

But obviously depending on the brand of tire there might be a more substantial gap between 17's and 18's

Also, you need to factor in how often you'll change tires, since if you're burning through them monthly, then tire price differentials are gonna matter more due to frequency

17s in the front so you wont rub like crazy while being low
18s in the back so u can tuck!

Bahaha, opps typo on my part. you know what I mean.

Thanks A Spec Products. I appreciate the help. :)

and Dori, nice description of our roads. hahah, though your still pretty slammed by the looks of it.

should I assume the specs I gave on the wheels won't have clearance or rubbing issues?

mmm its all about the offset and the style of the disc. (if u have 300zx brakes)

240trainee
12-01-2008, 02:58 PM
Depends on offset.

It all depends what you want to do with the car. Look through the wheel fitment thread, any possible fitment question you have has probably been done and documented with pics.

Trutrax
12-01-2008, 02:59 PM
ah true. Well I'm running stock brakes and offset is 35. I figure a 15mm spacer will help flush and clear coilovers.

*edit* thanks 240trainee. I'll give it a look-see

how about 17x9 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. the best of both worlds. 18s in the front of an s13 and you get some serious rubbing with any moderatly wide tire

i love my 18"s with 40 series for daily but they def not as comfy as 17"s with 45 or even 50 series you would probably run since you're not slammed in Canada. Going with 17" tires will almost always be cheaper in most brands of tires compared to 18".

Final Answer = 17"x9" all the way around. = Cheaper, Rotates well with same size tire at all corners & has the potential for a better ride in your war zone.

for toronto roads id recommend 17's as you can have more sidewall = comfier ride. also tire price depends if its only a DD or a track car as well. if your just DD the car 18 isnt that bad compared to if you have to buy 4 tires everyweekend then it starts to add up.

if you think sport max wheels look good then you have bigger issues the trying to figure out if you want to run 17 or 18.

Be a man. 17s up front, 18s in the rear.

But but but....

You have 17's all around on a S14.

Does that mean your way less of a man?

I think so.

Oh snap.

kisses.

To OP. If your starting off with drifting and on a budget I would suggest 17's all around.

So much cheaper on tires.

I've been drifting on 18's in the rear and just like them that way. Seems more stable for me.

But tire costs is stupid expensive.

17" tires come in smaller overall diameter sizes, if you wanna get low the easy way and can't be bothered to hammer down the fender seam in the wheel well above the front tire. you can find tires in sizes like 215/40/17 which is just under 24 inches (vs stock spec 24.7). the smallest 18" tires tend to start with overall diameters of 25"

17s in the rear are for homos and newbs. But if you're both of those things (like me) then its ok

Running a smaller diameter wheel in the front is for Camaros.

Plus, the best way to go in Canada is the following:
Widebody +30 front, +50 rear.
18x9 +0, 18x10 -5
slammed.
OEM Urethane aero, securely bolted down (in this case, more damage would be caused if it were sucked under the car after being ripped off, so it's good to make sure that won't happen.
Skidplate.
Done.

It'll skip over sucky Canadian roads and snow like that Lamborghini skipped across the lake in the movie Speedzone.
And that my friend, is Gangsta.

17's are lighter and cheaper ( wheels and tires )

18's look better because of size and shorter sidewalls

both are good, I guess it depends on what you want to do with your car

hahaha,so pretty much if your tight for cash, get 17x9 all around... but if your feeling gutsy, 18x9.5 in the back and 17x9 in the front for a more aggressive look.

Anyone got any more pictures of some stagger setups??

17's feel much more responsive and agile up front, but I think 18's all around look better.
