I hate not being able to ride my baby in winter. There's nothing I like better than hopping on my bike and disappearing for a couple of hours.
The top one is a 96 VFR, and yeah, it is pretty heavy, as it's all steel, and I didn't really make any effort to keep it light, but I've had it so long it's like another limb anyways.

It started as an S&M Holmes that I bought in 96', then I went to an Eastern Hercules frame about 99', and now its Mongoose Steve Mccann frame. Pretty much everything on the bike are just replacements from when I broke anything. The bars, forks, and stem were all original from the S&M.

WOW i almost forgot about the Holmes... i mean thats going back like 10 years haha. I loved that bike!

I too recently stopped riding. I built my Bike last febuary, tore down my S&M stricker and started off with a Fly Mosca 2 that i had powder coated up with all sorts of sick parts. Once i got t back together i rode it maybe 3 times and then the last of my college classes kicked in hardcore and sat me on my ass. Now 6 months after graduation i still dont feel the need or want to hop back on my bike and am selling it now at my shop :(

i read this thread and went straight to my kitchen to take a picture of my bike. ive had the black frame (2-hip pork aluminum) since early high school probly like 98-99, the standard i bought when i was maybe a junior. im 27 now and only the 2hip got messed up, i found cracks around the chainstays so i decided to put the standard frame together and save the other from breaking. the standard is indestructible.
i really dont do too much crazy street stuff anymore it hurts my body too much, but i love riding transition. ct bike skatepark forever!

Last summer I took the spare parts I had and built a second bike minus a drive train.
Pretty fun.
If I rode street I'd definitely have a freecoaster.

06-13-2009, 01:09 AM
freecoasters are too much of a pain in the ass for me. i like a solid bike that works with no issues. i had an odyssey reloader for a while. the novelty of having a freecoaster was fun for a bit, but the consistency, durability, and reliability of a cassette is more my style.

sorry for being out of the game for a while.. whats with the small sprockets? when u say u dont like free coast, are those small sprocket bikes meaning you have to keep pedaling?
bloodangels13
06-13-2009, 09:07 AM
The gear ratios are kept about the same jus using smaller sprockets in the rear and smaller chain wheel.. mostly to cut weight and minize bashing the chainwheel. when someone says freecoast they probly mean a freecoaster rear hub ( dont have to pedal when goin fakie)

Rode a skatepark earlier today.
A young biker asking me tons of questions, an idiot skater, and a girl who already has a kid flirting with me made me realize why I don't go to skateparks.
Trails and bros beats kids and ho's any day.

Bringing this thread back because going through all the pages I found NOTHING on Diamondback bikes. Is Diamondback just too middle school or what? I'm borrowing two of them, both are 'joker's and they feel heavy.
I want a bike that I can jump up real easy with. I had a GT bike a long ass time ago and even that was pretty heavy, but it was super fast.
Here is a picture of the bike I'm borrowing. (The other one is the same but black and without pegs)

I wanna be doin' tricks around town and such, any recommendations on a good bike within a $500 budget? Or is this bike fine and I just need to start learning better/faster...keep in mind I'm semi-new. I can go off jumps and ramps, and do a neat trick that I'm not sure what its called but here let me try to describe it...
It's like a stoppie but instead of the rear going straight up I spin it around in a full 360 degrees. So I guess it would be a 360 tailwhip on the ground? So from that, determine if I'm a super noob or a in the middle noob or what.

lol diamond back was good way back when. then they got bought out and sold at shitty retail stores.
And for the smaller sprocket debate, I bought one for the sole reason of not hitting it while grinding.

It sounds like a flatland tailwhip.
For a 360 tailwhip, which is typically done in the air, your body would need to rotate 360 and the bike would rotate an extra 360.

I used to ride trails a lot, my neighbor owns a bucket loader and a huge yard so we would always build at his house but we have since moved to the street. We finally got a small park in my town with a 6ft mini ramp and a bunch of other shit like a concrete picnic table, some stairs and such.
