yesterday i was working on my 90' coupe getting it ready for a safety check.
but today it will not start?
everytime i turn the key past the accessory power the ignition fuse blows.
only thing i have done to it was remove the strobe lights and install a new headlight motor.
also this happened when i was listening to the radio when i first tried to start the car.

hmm im not sure if its a wire thats shorting. might be the ignition switch but it was working great before.

it shorts out when i reach the "3" position on the ignition.
anyone know where the wires for this go?
im looking it up in the FSM but im not sure where to start.

ok today traced all the wires and none seem to be chaffed or cut, but the problem is still there. also when i turn the car to the on position the radio shuts off.

I've seen the power wires shorting on the alternator. That will blow your ignition fuse for sure. If not, check your starter? Use a volt-meter.

hmm i will have to check both..the weird thing that i found out is almost all the electronics in the car need the radio (alpine deck) on to work (in the accessory mode)? kind of strange. also the radio will not work unless it has the antenna wire plugged into it. i have got the 240 to stop blowing the ignition fuse but i think i may have just caused another problem (blowing another fuse or the ecu.)
also the car has an alarm but i doubt that its causing the problem because when i crank the ignition switch to the on position nothing comes on (no fuel pump, dash lights, CEL, etc etc.).

also could semi corroded battery terminals be causing all my problems?
im really stumped right now...

seems like the starter is the problem. bought a new battery and terminals today. she started up but after a second of running the ignition fuse blew again.
why would the starter/alternator cause the ignition fuse to blow in the first place?
