I took my car too Midas to have my water pump fixed and they were going to charge me $600 to change a water pump...Does this seem fair??? Also where could I take my car for another estimate...?

Hell no. $600 is bull**** for a water pump :P
The parts cost you $70 or so (pump, rtv, new coolant), time is cheap when it's your time. Water pumps, particularly those on the 240sx, are easy dood.
Drain coolant
Remove fan shroud (may need to disconnect upper radiator hose if you can't fenagle it out)
Loosen the bolts on the fan, loosen the power steering belt tensioner (loosen bolt on front, reaaaally loosen the bolt on the side), remove the bolts on the fan, remove the fan and water pump pulley.
Remove the six or so bolts around the water pump, tap on the pump with a mallet or somesuch tool untill it comes loose
Unwrap and check the new pump for play (there should be none), slap a bead of RTV around the mating surface of the new pump, put it in position and put in the bolts as tight as you can with your fingers.
Torque the bolts star pattern (untill snug, I don't have the proper torque specs handy).
Slap the whole shebang back together again, refill with coolant, and be happy you didn't spend six times as much as you did!

Well I really know much about how to work on cars and I don't have anybody to help me down here in nashville. I found a place that will fix it for $170 so I'm happy with that..I don't really have anytime right now with work and school to fix my car. I've known that it was going out for a while I just never did anything about it.
thanks for the reply though man...

hehe, no problem. Mebbe it will help somebody else :-)
$170 isn't bad for a water pump job.
