I've been checking craigslist for a decent s13 shell for an RB25 project... and ran into this: 1992 Nissan 240sx (http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/cto/931490806.html) and was like, wtf? I wouldn't pay $1500 for it. Are 240's really that jacked up in price these days?

No way.

Gotta be something good coming with it.

I mean shit I can pick up SOHC shells with ragged interior not running for $500 all day long here... but interior has to be halfway decent for me to consider even looking at it. I'm picky, I know.

yes, i posted a thread describing a car and everyone said no more than 1k. but the guy sold it for like 4k or 6k lol
kids are really killing the scene and everyone CLAIMS that there 240 is worth what they got it for or the amount they put into it.
the market right now is looking good for seller's but not buyers.

You are dealing with 10-16 year old cars that were originally sold as economy cars and were probably beat on as such. If you want sixteen year old cars with decent interiors then perhaps you should look into purchasing Ferraris. :l101:

Uh... what? I'm having a hard time trying to understand that.

Okay, by decent interior I'm talking intact. Seats can be reupholstered, carpet can be replaced... but I hate having to hunt down little trim pieces and such.

I can't say what I paid for my s14, cause I want to sell it to get a cheap s13 to throw my friend's RB25 into... but I never paid more than $1k for an s13, and only paid $1500 for my vert, in good shape minus the rear window.

Mine has some damage to the body on the rear passages side by the tail light like right at the corner. That's why I got it so cheap

I've seen bone stock SX's with 160K-200K go for upwards of three thousand. I dont blame the sellers. Its the buyers that are driving up the prices. Baisic supply/demand economics.

If I could sell a car for 3X more than its worth, I would too.

Did you at least get a reach around? Jesus. If you paid that much for a KA 240 without some heavy mods...

I think I could buy a BEASTLY suspension setup on top of an RB25 with the money I could raise selling my s14 at that rate.

I got my s13 for 300 bucks.

the redtop was 2500 however lol. But hey at least it came with a front mount, 3 inch piping all the way back and will be my daily driver with the ka I'll throw in it, and I can re-use my old sr parts once I start getting the ka-t going on it.

I got pwnd on my first 240. I paid $2200 for an 89 SE piggy with 200K while I was in Cali. I didn't know any better. I had the car for 5 years and it served me well. My current piggy cost me $1000 with 174K that I got from and old lady. It certainly is the dori fanboys that drive the price up. You still can get good deals. You have to search like crazy though.

If I could sell a car for 3X more than its worth, I would too.if its a clean bone stock (even single cam) sx with clean int/ext original owner with low miles...i can see them going for 3k easy...and i know a few who have bought there s chassis from original owners...cleanest cars ive seen IMHO...

How did that make you appalled?...

I think the arket is dwindling. Just like everything else in this country. The 240 "trend" is on it's way down and out IMO.

Good cars though should still go for a good amount of money though. Cheap broke kids that just want to "drift it" shouldn't even look the way of a 60k one owner S13 in mint condition that someone wants $3000-$3500 for. Leave those to the guys who respect and actully love these cars ie guys like me, Barry, etc.

I hope there's still some nice stock jewels out there for me when I buy my 2rd 240 in a few months.

S14's are even more ridiculous

I paid 5k for mine but it is/was clean :P

uncracked radio bezel
clean interior
123k KA
manual trans from factory
slicktop
tein coils
tein tension rods
tcsportline rucas
working a/c, heat, all windows

it was basically ready to go, maybe I didn't agree with all mods but I really wanted a slicktop, and I loved pearl white

That what happens when you release tokyo drift onto the upper middle class suburbs of America every little billy and tyler think they can drift and ask mommy and daddy buy them a 240SX. and they have no idea how much money there dumping on the former owner of a POS beater 240, and it's not like the kids care there just gonna ask mommy and daddy for coilover and motor swap money, and thats why all the good drift spots are shut down. fuckin kids.

Same here, I would gladly pay that for a clean 5 speed car.
Everyone bitches when buying but feel insulted when they're lowballed.
That's 240 kids for you.
Can't wait till the next civic/240 comes along and takes them away.

no crap. I remember when I first got my 240 5 years ago (even then you consider it the time when the popularity of 240sx grew). I got it for 2,600. No rust, no dents all stock. The prices now are ridiculous for sub par cars. One guy here wanted 4500 for his s13.... though my brother got a deal on a 240 not too long ago. 1500$ shell no rust, mint* interior, and comes with practically a full ca18det swap with many goodies. Lucky i think. Heck, my buddy traveled to South Carolina from Iowa just to get a 240 for 1500 with clear coat peel and mediocre interior, but no rust.

Im holding my breath I can find an S14 chassis to swap my silvia shit into when I come back stateside. I want a rolling chassis but seems like rolling chassis nowadays means a car thats fucking parted out with nothing on it but a frame and door...

The 240 is a cult car.

Accept it.

240 prices are high even in Europe. 89-94 model years routinely go for around €2,500.

The crazy thing is, I could easily swap a KA back in the car and sell it for the same amount, if not more, that I got it for.
