for some history on this car for those who don't know.... this is a copy and paste from my former NA build threads on various forums...
we all know that i wrecked my car to avoid a deer... so the adjuster is coming by tomorrow to cut me a check for the car, and i'll be buying it back... since i can't retitle it I'm going to use it as a parts car, and for a part out, to try and make some of my money back on the buy back...
with whats left over, I'm thinking of buying this Gold S14 base for $4100 cash with around 85k miles on the chassis and around 70k on the black top, it's needs alot of TLC, most of which i can pull off of my Black S14 that's totaled... mostly interior bits here and there, radio bezel, shift boot, ignition surround, and few minor bits and peices on the inside...
engine runs kinda rough, it must be a a MAF sensor (will replace with Z32 maf listed below, and i have a feeling it's got a to be a vacuum leak somewhere, it idles like it's misfiring on a cyl, but as soon as RPMS are above 1k, it's smooths out great and pulls hard... Also, the seals on the turbo are bad and has no gasket between the turbo and the mani, turbo smokes and has moderate shaft play.. at anywhere after say 35mph, the steering wheel shakes like it's trying to piss it's self and run away, my S14 does the same, just not so bad... more parts of the parts car (i hate calling it that "parts car", and now i will cry for a minute)
Okay done crying, as for the outside as you can see in the following photos, the front panels are pretty much shot, both fenders, hood (which due to lack of fastening the hood pins, flew open and shattered the windshield), and the roof being dented... all of which parts, except for the roof i can pull off of my car, as well as my buddy's parts car, namely hood and fenders... the trunk is also bad, which a tree fell on, it's just misaligned and needs to be replaced, also another thing i can pull of my wrecked S14...
as far as the mods go it has....

and now to get current and up to speed....
well guys, i finally brought this bucket home... it made it on a 2hr trip with no screw ups.... the suspension is shot out, the brakes are non existent, and the idle is rough and the starter isn't getting enough ground/power one or the other...
today i went to start the five lug swap, then saw that it had a security lug nut... and i was an idiot and didn't check the glove box so i gave that up (later looked in the glove box and there it was).
so instead i figured i's take care of some of the cosmetic things, so i swapped over my headlights, and light bulbs (silvania silverstar ultras) and my cheap-o fake HID high beam bulbs... and found out that the driver side harness was ate up and i'll have to use the harness from the parts car (the black Zenki), to make it light up correctly (low beam is dim as hell)...
after that i decided to figure out why the shifter was soooo wobbly so i tore open the center console, and got in to the shifter, found out that the upper boot had no screws holding it down (why do i think this is going to be the story of this car??)... after i removed the upper boot, i realized that at least it is a true V2 B&M shifter... with no boot... again, pulled from the parts car...
after removing the shifter lever, i found out why it was so wobbly.. the lower bushing on the ball was missing, so since the car came with the stock SR shifter, i took it off and swapped it out... easy, got the boot on, trim all back and went to put in my radio bezel and another mess...
found out the crappy CD player wasn't fully secured and was actually hard wired into the original harness (weak sauce) and that wasn't something i wanted to get into... the SAFC is wired through the back of the vents in between so i cant remove the vent panel with out breaking it (two of the locking tabs are already broken anyways so when i get motivated i'll finish her off). so i reinstalled everything, got the radio bezel back on in a half way recognizable fashion, and even rewired the cigg lighter (I'm a smoker and use it, just not the ashtray, which i NEVER use)... got it all pieced back together and for now, called it a night... i had a long drive on shot suspension and a turbo that as soon as it started boosting, smoked out the car bad... had to ride most the way under 30% throttle (i know that cuz the SAFC told me, it is good for SOME things...) which was kind of a pain... i mean come up, you scoop up a turbo car that's most likely pushing 220 to the wheels and you can't even romp on it...
here's some pics, there will be many more to come as i document the resurrection on this car...
just got home, look at my two babies, popped the hood to get ready to jack her up...

ADD: i just went outside to look at this kids "custom downpipe" and it IS nice... but it's only held on with one bolt... no wonder the smokey turbo smokes all under the hood and in the car... ARG!!!! time to do more work...
at least i ended up picking it up for $3800
that's it for now guys, stay tuned for the rebuild of this heap.... more too come and thanks for reading through...

that car looks like problems.
The swap looks terrible, who knows what else is wrong.
I think the price you are paying for it, is about right.

the seats in the new40 are the dark gray color, single tone, and at first i was like hell yeah, till i saw that the fabric was coming off of the seat foam.... looks like i'll be swapping in my like new Black zenki seats with their two tone color... UGH... got to be put together, not raggedy.... i'll be out of town, down in St. Pete till Friday, but this weekend will be a MASSIVE rebuild day.... i'll be custom fabbing a turbo elbow to get this GT28 on there ASAP to fix the smoking.... it'll mostly be a weekend of putting everything back together, and tie up loose ends that previous owner got, what looks like, half way done, and called it finished.... just getting it right.... then comes engine... full maintainance, possible re wire in some places (starter isn't getting enough juice, need to figure out why), check for boost/vacuum leaks, get P/S high pressure hose situated... 5 lug swap (not to sure cause i kinda like these racing harts.. i dunno).... MOST DEFINITELY NEED TO GET THE BRAKES IN ORDER, they are in horrible shape... like to the floor and it's not stopping.... no pads, the base rubbing straight on the rotors... rear caliper on the passenger side has a leak ( brand new OM rear calipers on the parts car woot woot).... so with the five lug swap my cross drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads will get swapped over also.. to get some stopping power on par with the motor...
sblack13- remember, every project starts somewhere.... look at all the mods that come with it... hald my work is done, not just to get it all right and situated, and i'll be right on track.... this is a project... as my buddy calls it "projekt FrankenBoost"
you got some work ahead of you, that is for sure

fixed shit....
brakes (HOLY CRAP, you should have seen the right rear caliper, pics coming soon)
suspension (heated springs, blown OE shocks)
driver side window and and switch assembly
cracked and leaking (UGH) stock oil catch hose
ghetto ass power and ground wires, rewired and fixed, car starts with out pushing
re did vacuum lines for the Greddy Type S BOV (missing a vacuum line to the intake)
adjusted trunk so it sits correctly, and not unflush
so after the brakes (replaces right rear with new or 1k miles caliper) and the suspension (sourced the Tein S-Tech springs and OE shocks from the black car) the car actually rides like a half way decent car now... and i can stop it without pushing the pedal all the way to the floor.. awesomesauce. also both driver and passenger windows work with no problems, car will start without having to roll it forward or backward to help the starter along (bad power/ground).
quick story, as stated, the oil catch hose was cracked, and he had the other end of the "T" on the PCV(?) capped off, no filtered, so while showing off for some friends, the oil pressure built up enough to fill the catch can, and push the oil dip stick out of the shaft, hence, blowing oil all over the engine, road, under car... just a horrible mess... so next day i got to advance, get a new hose and oil breather filter, problem fixed, and the car doesn't smoke NEAR as bad as it did when i first got it, even under boost... drove it from ST Pete to gainesville with almost no smoke... awesome.... it's the little things guys...
so far that's the update.... much more to come tomorrow when i replace the half blown stock T25 with a brand new Garret TB2804 for a Pulsar GTIR (need different exhaust housing first). which i may be getting free...
no pics tonight, which as most of you know, i usually post em, but i'll get some tomorrow of the progress, different ride height, and cleaned up vac lines...

11-29-2008, 04:33 PM
well it's Saturday the 29th and once again, i got more work done on this heap, it's getting out of heap status and graduating to "pile" status...
things i did today....
removed stock T25 and manifold (bottom mounts are a bich)
did a test fit of the TB2804 on the stock mani, not sure if waste gate will transfer
reran some messed up vacuum lines
replaced beat and worn gray Base S14 seats with my nice SE's
fixed driver side kick panel (was hanging open with misc wires)
replaced F'd steering wheel with perfect one from parts car
replaced steering column trim (unscrewed, adhesive slag, just nasty)
replaced Base headlight, wiper lever switch with SE unit, very nice
replaced black faced Base gauge cluster with white SE cluster
tucked boost gauge wires in dash (we hanging lose between dash and door)
replaced driver side door sill (only two tabs were holding the old one on)
put the little button tab on the door panel by hinge (it's the little things)
got the ignition trim put on (was missing, not anymore !!!)
tucked misc wires that were hanging below the dash
REPLACED WINDSHIELD!!! no more shattered glass
just kinda started getting the turbo swap started, wating on a 5 bolt exhaust housing for the TB2804, and will be installing, hopefully i can find a way to mount the HKS adjustable waste gate to the new turbo, don't know if i can though, UGH... got a lot of the interior replaced, and fixed, to get it looking like a halfway decent car on the inside... driver comfort and all... I'm loving the SE gauge cluster, the blue LED upgrade in it matches the turbo timer, CD, player, greddy profec B II and will match the Auto Meter Cobalt gauges i have and will be installing as soon as i get a matching boost gauge and 3 A pillar gauge pod....
i'll let the photos do the talking from here....

you should sell the rest of your old car to fund a kouki conversion, since you have to buy a hood and a fender anyway??
just a question what is the complete suspension on the black zenki

that's a good idea 97nismo is got.
but as far as the build is going, good work man ^ ^

I'd like to see this thread out.
just stay tuned and subscribe... i'll most likely be updating it daily which as much work i do, not to mention my obsession with these cars...
the suspension on the black car was just OE shocks with Tein S-Techs... not much, but i hand't had a chance a to get to the suspension... i only had the black car for about 5 months, and when i got it, it wasn't in much better shape than the gold one, and i brought that car back from the dead....
can't wait to see the gold one in 5 months.... getting giddy just thinking about it...

11-30-2008, 10:34 PM
well guys, once again, Sunday the 30th, i did more work...
it all started with getting the interior in order, to match that of a REAL S14.. so what i did as far as inside the car goes, is pull the broken AC control bezel out and replaced with with my perfect one from the parts car, having to drill a pocket for the SAFCII wire..... since the CD player was ****, the one that came with the car, i replaced it with my Pioneer DEH-6800, a nice unit, kinda old but still kicks ass.... after i got that in, i cleaned up the locations of the turbo timer, and the greddy profec B spec II, just to tidy things up,. i also replaced the base rear speaker cover (damaged, 2 tabs holding it in) with my SE one (perfect condition) so the rear is deck is situated.. after all was said and done i topped off the gutz with the OEM "240SX" front and rear floor mats... car now looks like a CLEAN car, as afar as the interior goes... you should have seen it before hand....
after that i moved to the trunk, yet again, what a mess... i had to replace all the screwed up linings, trust me, it was bad, with the perfect ones from my SE parts car, pics below... you'd be surprised how much time it takes to get all that crap swapped... i also, while in the rear, replaced the dented and screwed up trunk lid with my black one from the SE, looks kinda cool, especially with the smoked zenki tails, not to mention it sez "Silvia" on it... you can't imagine all the hammer work i had to do to get it sit right (car was previously in a rear end collision, thanks for telling me seller...), anyways, it sits a lot better now, had to beat out the rear bumper cover support to get the bumper lines to match up with the tail lights correctly...
other than that, not much else was accomplished today, even though it took me about 4 hours to get everything right, hammering, screwing, unscrewing, blah blah... at least now the trunk and interior is presentable... more photos after the detail...

was the black car or your "parts" car really that bad? to the point where all this work rebuilding the gold chasis is worth it?
even if the black car would have a salvaged title, it seems as though it might have been cheaper and easier to replace the damaged parts on it...
not hating, just curious as to how bad the damage was on the black car.

bad enough for progressive to total it.... cost me $1500 to buy it back from salvage... friggen drift tax... it was no longer abe to be retitled cause it has a cert. of destruction as of now, and when i get the title back, it will be a salvage... and i don't want to go through all the crap of shipping out of state, getting it fixed, titled in that state, and then shipping it back here to drive again....
so yeah it's worth it to me to swap all the parts over to restore the gold car... hell guys, every project has to start somewhere. i love to do work anyways, so me restoring this gold car is a labor of love fellas
Black car...

did you not want to drive a car with a salvaged title? you would only have had to ship it out of state and fix it and ship it back if you wanted it to retain a clean title right?
again, not hating, just asking...
btw, very good work on the gold zenki... i just wish i had the skills/know-how to do stuff like that.

you should sell the rest of your old car to fund a kouki conversion, since you have to buy a hood and a fender anyway??
just a question what is the complete suspension on the black zenki
excellent idea....
if you can make back the $1500 you had to buy it for and still come out on top a little
good luck. is it going to stay gold?
Blackzenki82
12-02-2008, 12:33 AM
yeah it's going to stay gold, i think i'm going with a two tone, since the trunk is black, i might carry that over onto the roof and A and B pillars and the hoods as well... for that "mad tyte yo" whatever look, i think it'd look good...
as for making the $$ back, i've already made over $500 off it and i haven't even started parting it out yet.... not the mention saving the endless time and money seaching and buying small replacement parts i need to restore the Gold car.. even small things and the little screw cover tabs on the door pockets... i'm that much of a perfectionist... like me putting the SE "240SX" floor mats in the gold car was like "wow, the interior is now fully complete, and not trashed, and half there" it was the coup de gra or however you say that lolol...
once the part out begins, i should make my money back and then some, but i'm going to wait till i have absolutely everything i need off it before it goes... heck just the bit i've sold already has financed my fully custom/upgraded Garret T28 set up....
as for a kouki conversion, hells no... i know everyone loves the kouki, but i don't, i don't like how the front end is all agressive, and angular.. it doesn't match the rest of the car which has smooth and flowing sexy body lines... koukis to me look like some kind of weird front end conversion... just my opinion... nothing can beat a good CLEAN Zenki front end... FTW!!

12-02-2008, 01:38 PM
well if your going to keep the zenki, and i gots love for a zenki, at least get kouki tails and kouki side skirts and the navan front bumper
done
Blackzenki82
12-02-2008, 01:51 PM
gold car has smoked tails... i kinda like... will rock those for quite some time, but the kouki tails ARE da sekz...
kouki sides are a little plain for my flavor, if i were to get any it'd be the navan side with rear valances... shit's expensive though, and this is somewhat of a budget build...
high priority right now is mostly mechanicals and suspension, aesthetics will come later...

Well, looks like i finally have all my gauges ready, the auto meter cobalt -/+ boost gauge just came in today... just tore open the box like a kid at Christmas, and it's pretty damn cool looking IMO...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/49/l_eecee872c3974097bda13038ada5ed13.jpg
The blue of the gauges will match my blue LED gauge cluster upgrade, my GReddy turbo timer, and my GReddy profec B spec II boost controller, APEXi S-AFCII as well as closely matching my pioneer DEH-6800 head unit..
Just a few more things waiting to come in the mail before my turbo is ready...
A pillar 3 Gauge pod
T28 HKS waste gate bracket
Megan Racing Stainless Steel bottom mount SR manifold
Will post updates as they come along ladies gents!!!

12-04-2008, 07:52 PM
as another update, i got the power steering lines fixed on the SR, thank god for a parts car to source all this stuff from, makes my job a whole lot easier, AND faster, luckily enough, i already had the turbo out, and that made clearance to get down to those lines a ZERO problemo... so YAY for power steering!!! next up tomorrow, sway bar, and brake upgrade, brembo cross drilled and slotteds here we goooooooooooo!

alrighty guys, Friday Dec 5, and i've finally got all my things in the mail... HKS T28 waste gate bracket, Megan Racing SR manifold, and "glowshift" A pillar 3 gauge pod... also today, i got my amp installed (thanks to my buddy bryant for his profession help, he's an installer at an unnamed big box store), sounds okay, but not as strong as i would like it to be.... for his services and his amp, he got my 4-2-1 header and test pipe, and i installed it for him today after he finished with my amp install... really nice work... i also had a chance to help my buddy time on his KA-T project... been kinda busy...
i realized a few things that NEED to be done to my car before it's fully road worthy... as shown in the pics below, the driver side front and rear calipers are leaking (i'll source my perfect ones off the black car), as well as a few vacuum lines that need addressing...
i got all of my turbo parts removed from the stock T25 and ready to transfer onto the garret T28, got everything cleaned up.. and ready for it to go in....
well on with the pics i guess.....
misc turbo stuffs to be transferred, did you know that the KA after cat o2 sensor works perfect on the SR elbow? me either.... same wires, sensor, and coupler.... FTW!! notice the larger HKS T28 bracket? nice...

well guys, all aside, today is the day to do more work..... things on the list
Brakes-Caliper replacement, and cross drilled and slotted rotors, Bleeding as well...
Sway Bar-sourced from the SE parts car onto the base
Front body alignment-gotta get the upper bracket on the bumper reinforcement to secure the bumper properly, since the car was previously wrecked, i can foresee some hammering in my near future....
GAUGES!!!!-going to install the 3 pod and 3 gauges in the previous photos, anyone know where the OEM oil pressure sending unit it to T off for the oil press gauge?
Vacuum lines-just replacing old worn ones, inspect for leaks, put clamps on em (previous owner just had em slid on nipples without any kind of clamps)
i'll have pics and everything for those of you who are interested

12-07-2008, 02:57 PM
pressure sender should be right next to the oil filter. post up some pics of the progress when you get a chance!!

12-07-2008, 06:55 PM
i know my way around cars, been working on em since i was like 13... as far as boost, i know jack shit about it... but i have a very mechanical mind, and i have this weird ability to figure things out in my head by visualizing how it works, and how it WILL work.... i dunno... been like since i was 4 playing with legos....
here's the update... less talk more action this time....
pre "refinished" brembo x drilled and slotted rotors....
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/28/l_904e8285af324285986ed9071784b7ce.jpg
replacement driver side fender and bumper support bracket, no dents, just messed up paint....
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/54/l_de8e7881f42e4120b7e7f1e675fbb538.jpg
misaligned front bumper due to shoddy work... not my work either asshats....
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/11/l_2db00542cfff40acb6a3ccfd3887a9ae.jpg
car going up for the rotors and calipers off the black car... right rear was blown and leaking, right front leakage was from a bad line, also replaced with part from black car...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/28/l_a0112f6ee42f4ceaa50cdfa741af20a3.jpg
my pit crew... my son helping me "resurface" those rotors, just getting the bult of the surface rust off, they'd been sitting at my neighbors house outside for a while....
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/57/l_4b0f24936c8d41c381a1feb013e8ad76.jpg
my son took this pic, calls it "my daddy doing work" lol... i was replacing that leaky line with the good one off the black car...

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/36/l_290c675729e441d69a820a0a6e1a0e3c.jpg

Before....
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/62/l_d4c13c275ab84f65812a81087c267a0d.jpg

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/42/l_0861d96489e0407bbbdb67e4c88d3324.jpg
got the front bumper off to see what kinda can of worms i opened... and it looks like i got this can from SAMS CLUB... it wasn't a family size can, it was a restaurant sized can....
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/46/l_962db6204aa1462e9042b4c8f19fc3c9.jpg
guy had the front bumper attached with some nut and bolt that was rusted solid so i had to pull the whole front off in one piece...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/3/l_23c5a8bfe6054e07a1382a4df79035ef.jpg
and that's as far as i got today... spent the earlier time pulling the five lug swap for the buyer... that was a pain and took a good while...
i wasn't able to get to the gauges, fender, or reattaching the front bumper cause the bumper reinforcement is way out of whack and the bracket wouldn't fit without modification... looks like i'll have to fab some shit up at my buddy tims house to make this work.... tomorrow is another day, and one full of trying to get this car ready for the turbo... funny how everything on this car is centered around this turbo... oh well...
more updates to come tomorrow when i get more shit done.. so as always, stay tuned!!!!!

well just another quick little update...
car drives awesome, pulls super hard, and rides out like crazy... a few problems though, under heavy boost (7+lbs), i get some serious blow by coming out of the "T" on the valve cover, enough to blow oil out of the breather filter.... also, under heavy boost, i smell coolant, but there's no smoke, no water spots on the ground under the car... no symptoms, i think it may be the Moroso cap sticking, who knows...
to remedy the oil blow by problem, i went and scooped this up...

a nice little Circuit Sports Oil Catch can... hopefully this will alleviate my problems with spraying oil all over the front driver side corner of my motor and exhaust mani... i'll be installing it tomorrow, with pics of course...
crazy stuff... blow by, and smelling coolant, but absolutely no smoke coming from the car...
stay tuned!!

if you've got a lot of blow-by, then you've got bigger issues than just installing a catch can. You're gonna be emptying the thing pretty frequently if it's as bad as you say it is. Have you checked the compression??
Blackzenki82
12-12-2008, 10:00 PM
will be checking compression tomorrow.... i know what you're thinking, rings... but i don't get ANY smoke coming out my exhaust, so i dunno... god i hope not... i think the previous owner strung this thing out in search of more power, lets just hope it's not too bad...

other things i knocked out was my starter, figured out the problem, it was a loose remote wire on the solenoid, no i just cut off the OEM connector, and used a spade, solved the problem... i also added about 3-4 ground wires (sourced from the black car) and ran those to various points on my engine and frame... end result? awesome, more responsive throttle, brighter gauges, just a better tighter feel to the motor...
now for the bad news... this has got me punching myself in the face... so i get everything installed, and go for my little drive, less than say 5 miles, i boost it up a couple times, get up to like 9.5lbs on one pull... a drive that took me no longer than 10-15 minutes. i get back, still smell the oil smell a bit, as well as a bit of coolant which i think is the radiator. so i pop the hood, check the oil catch can i just put in and it's half full... WTF!!!!! i look at the oil coming out of the outlet hose that i have running into my fender well, and what do i see? is it foamy like a vanilla milkshake? yes it is!!! so i think we all know what that means... but what was weird was that it was foamy on the outside, but in the can was fresh and clear, could it have possibly been foamy cause it was the vapors coming out, and just "airy"???
so yeah, that's where i stand, i haven't had a chance to do a comp test on it, but I'm not sure if i need to anymore... all signs point to a bad motor... but it pulls SO hard... maybe it's something i'm overlooking...
although i do know that the previous owner blew the stock turbo by running to high boost, on a stock tune/injectors... i think he said he got it up to 14-15psi...so he strung it out, got it hot and probably blew the oil rings...
sonofabitch....

i have a feeling you might have the catch can plumbing wrong. Find a write up on how to do it and check your routing
that could be the cause for extra oil going into the can when it should go back into the valve cover or somethin
Blackzenki82
12-13-2008, 10:10 PM
so i did the compression test.... how fun, let me tell you guys how this went....
i get the coil pack harness off, great, unscrew the coil packs, pull off Cyl #1 and it is FULL of oil... i cant even see the spark plug, i pull Cyl #2, and i can just see the tip of the spark plug, the rest is submerged in oil.. Cyl #3 and #4 were high and dry... so at this point i'm like holy shit, i can't believe this.... my thereory on the #1 and #2 is the inner gasket went out, because the plugs were nice and sealed... so new gasket set...
on with the compression numbers... Cyl #1 being closest to the radiator, and #4 being closest to firewall...
Cyl#1=180 wet (no choice with oil), so most likely around 160-165
Cyl#2=110 wet (no choice with oil), so most likely around 90
Cyl#3=165 dry, SCORE!!!
Cyl#4=165 dry, WOOT WOOT!!
so as we can all see, Cyl #2 is just about dead in the water... i guess that explains all that excessive blow by i'm getting and high crank case pressure... also might explain why there's coolant in my oil, the asshole who owned this car before me dogged the shit out of it, raped it, and dumped it on me for $3800...
possible 400whp SR rebuild in the cards..... might as well....
possible purchases if i rebuild....
CP pistons
Rocker arm stoppers
ARP head studs
Cosworth head gasket
felpro/mrgasket rebuild kit

update is this, my engine is fucking shot, i got bad oil ring lands on Cly#2 and needs a complete rebuild or swap... fuck this car i'm so pissed.... bout ready to give up on it... all this work i've already got into it... sonofabitch

12-15-2008, 02:33 PM
don't give up man!! Just another learning experience.... At least you got a taste of sweet boost...You got it going this far, might as well see it through.
Do a "cheap" rebuild and just throw in some forged pistons, get the block machined well, and a nice headgasket
I would say go all out and do some headwork w/ an upgraded turbo, but you should probably just focus on getting the bish running and putting some miles on it. Once you have time/motivation/money in the future it will already be ready for a big turbo
i dunno what else to say. but it would be a shame if you gave up now
Blackzenki82

life gives you lemons, make lemonade... this now gives me the opportunity to learn how to rebuild an engine, something i was planning on doing later on down the road anyways in my search of MOAR POWAZ.. so cool deal, as i rebuild it, i learn, and while i'm in there, i can beef it up with stronger parts, to make it a more reliable engine for me in the long run
granted, at this point i may be broke, but ya know what? it's JUST A CAR.. it can be fixed, when i bought this car, i bought it as a project car, i just didn't know it would be THIS much of a project, but after some research, reading write ups, it seems like something i can comfortably undertake myself, with the help of a friend or two...

alrighty, after long consideration, and thought, i've decided i'm going to buy another SR from JDM-Online, but just the long block, and swap all of my parts onto it, and sell the old motor and supporting shite... things i will be selling to cover the cost of the long block are as follows..
SR block w/head minus cams (bad oil land rings in Cyl #2)
SR heads, one loaded with springs, minus the cams, and one bare blacktop head in good order
Brian Crower Stage 2 cams
GReddy Profec B spec II Electronic boost controller with all wires and stuff
i am also considering selling my S14 VLSD (no J30/Z32 hybrid low gear ratio stuff)
i will have a for sale thread on these items if your interested in any of them, or just PM me (preferred it if you did PM).
i will post a link to the F/S in this post later on an EDIT note so you can link directly to it from here, make it easy on ya so ya don't have to search...
DO NOT ASK TO BUY THESE THINGS IN THIS THREAD PLEASE!!! lol, just PM or send a email to

alrighty guys, so i just ordered my new/used blacktop long block from JDM-online, guy sounds like a real straight up guy, and i've read some reviews, eBay feedback (not an eBay store, but sells on eBay), and 98% of customers seemed VERY pleased with the motor they got... comes with a midnight blue (although scratched), valve cover, and good compression across the board. looks like it'll be basically plug and play, just got to swap all my parts over on it and drop the bastard in WOOT WOOT!!!! might even come with a few internal goodies.... oh and it has between 50-55k miles.... time to roll back that 260.5k odometer lol

i have a feeling everything is gonna work out okay, but the standard rule applies, hope for the best, but expect the worst.... that way you never get set up for the big let down when soemthing fails....
been talking to Nesar from JDM online on the regular about this motor, i was going to pay with my master card but they don't have thier merchant account set up, but should be ready monday to use the card... as a consolation for taking so long, he's throwing in a FREE coilpack cover, something the car i bought didn't come with, nor thier long blocks, so an extra $40-70 part extra, just cause it's taking a few days to get the kinks worked out... so far, a GREAT seller, excelent communicaton, and just a great experience so far dealing with them... as for now (wont say too much till after the motor is in) i would HIGHLY recommend JDM online to anyone....
so either way, looking like my motor will be here by mid/late this coming week, not sure about shipping with christmas and all, but i'll be yanking the bad SR out this weekend, and putting the new one in next weekend, so stay tuned!!!!

got the motor out, went out without a hitch.... talk about easy, i hope it goes in just as easy, but knowing my luck, probably not.... i also found out that the ACT stage 3 6 puck clutch has almost NO friction material left on so it will prob need to be replaced within 10-15k miles, if that, the way i drive lol...
anyways on with the pics, oh and there's a few suprises i found in my half blown SR that i didn't know i had... will fill in after pics...

now for the AWESOME little treats i found at the end of the pull.... so i randomly pulled the valve cover off, just to check and make sure the guy i bought the car from wasn't bullshitting about the Brian Crower stage 2 cams, and well he was bullshitting, but i wasn't angry, only because instead of the Brian Crowers, they were HKS Stage 2 cams, AND there was some GReddy rocker arm stoppers in there as well..... like an early Christmas!!!
well, that's all for now, i'll be pulling the cams and RAS's out of this motor tomorrow to put in my new SR that should be here around Friday.... might also work on the KA>SR conversion, who knows, i have all week, minus Christmas and Christmas eve...

Updates!! i got the HKS cams and rocker arm stoppers out of the old SR, and ready for the new one, just sitting in my car port looking all sexy, i got the cheap ass clutch on the way as well as a a new friction surface plate for the Fidanza coming... no new clutch set up in the new SR FTMFW!!
i also finally got the motor paid for on Monday through paypal, Nesar at JDM online wasn't able to run my MasterCard for some reason even though his merchant account was set up, and it shipped out yesterday from Canada, and should be here around Friday...
what's good about JDM online, is that since i've had to wait over a week to get this motor shipped, he said go ahead and use pay pal, but it kinda screws him... how you ask? due to the exchange rate from US to CA money, when he gets paid, it will equal roughly out to $800CDN, and not the $1075USD, but he said he'd do it cause i've been waiting for a while, nice guys over there, and he's throwing in the coil pack cover w/allen bolts for free, so woot woot!!!
i also traded my Ebay cat back for a 5 lug swap (traded mine for a Xbox 360 w/games and all kinds of other stuff), a Zenki hood (you've all seen mine, and how beat it is), a Zenki bumper in perfect condition, and a KA AC compressor (there's a guy on Zilvia who sells KA to SR brackets for like $150, AC!!! and PS!!!)... damn good deal you all say right? well it's from a buddy of mine, and he's hooking me up cause he needs a cat back for his swap project but is out of $$$ and is about to get laid off.... so awesome sauce...
also as a teaser, i might be having some staggered Rays Engineering G Game 77Fs on the way, 18x8 +20 up front and 18x9+20 in the rear with BFG tires all around... they are 2pc and forged as well.... look like these...

How much are you picking up the wheels for? I'm not a fan but price is important.
I'd get shanked in the ear by my step-dad if the garage mess looked like that :P

i know right....
underpowered my ass.... up the boost to 13-14lbs and you have around 230-250hp in a 2700lb car... thats quick for DD....

that made no sense.
how do you know anything about my rb? "lolol" i think you meant SR.
if you're the kid who originally posted about your sr being slow...then he was clowning you....so that would be a double fail, friend
As for the neon tranny. that's ingenious. wish i woulda thought of that. only i woulda painted it gold
sounds like this second engine is gonna be the nuts. might as well get a GTxx and a powerFC while you're at it :keke:.......I know you're ballin' on a budget
Blackzenki82
12-25-2008, 04:00 PM
i never said anything about MY SR being slow... even with the bad ringlands in Cyl#2, with the GTIR turbo preloaded to 10lbs, this thing HAULED ass and boost was almost instantaneous ...that kid said he didn't know what the fascination with SRs were cause they're underpowered, and continued to say something was wrong with his... no wonder he thinks they're underpwered...
as far as getting the GTxx.... i'm assuming you're talking about a GT28xx turbo kinda deal right? no need, if you read back a few pages, i have a pulsar GTIR tubro, which is the same thing as a S14/S15 turbo, just not Ball Bearing FTW btw...it's custom rebuilt, with custom internals and upgraded parts... a smaller exhaust housing for more low to mid range power...fer da mad tyte dorifto spoolz an instunt boozt...
i can't afford a PowerFC, all i have currently is a SAFCII which bout all thats good for is controlling the amount of detonation i want... as far as tuning goes, i'll eventually be going with nistune, with a full consult port for in car, on the fly tuning... and the Nistune ECU if fairly inexpensive for what it is... around $350, and it's damn near a stand alone, and VERY user friendly to a novice like myself..
so being the person that i am, always rushing shit, when i attached the SR bell housing to the KA trans, i moved one of the gear selector "rods" and so the only gears i had were 5th and reverse.... UGH.... so i tore it all back down, used the old SR gear box to figure it out (who cares if i fuck that one up).... turns out there's three gear selector "rods" and they each have three settings.. in, middle, out.. i figured, after some "rod" moving, that if there's the wrong combination, it wouldn't go into a particular gear... put them all in "middle" and boo yah, all gears shift smoothly.... just a thought for any of you doing the same thing, and think you screwed up.... just a tip!!!!
i even checked the SR gear box to see if that's why reverse didn't work in it... nope, something else is fucked up with that...
now i have to repaint the damn tranny... cause now it has greasy hand and finger prints all over it... DO WORK!!!

12-26-2008, 01:38 PM
well guys, did more work today, i'll let the pics and captions take it away....
here's the engine bay AFTER i cleaned it, i know, it doesn't look like much, but the car is a POS and a lot of these are stains, i would paint it, but why? it's going to be a my DD/drift beater... 4 cans of engine degreaser and 2 scrubbers later....

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/50/l_f2b273741aa2463f8c030d0025a2f939.jpg
so i sourced all the AC stiff from the black car, cause well, i live in Florida and it gets HOT here.... plus, an SR with AC and PS? FTW!!!
AC radiator/condenser
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/1/l_aa859dcaccfc4b1b988ed2e59a2f47fb.jpg
Rear AC line ran, even with that strange weighted plate... also, got the perfect condition PS reservoir and GReddy EBC mounted.. PS reservoir that came with the car was JUNK!!
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/16/l_3b8c6579ab3c4faa9465dd8cf6821575.jpg
"cleaned" my Koyo radiator... doesn't look like it but it's actually 10x better...i'll be bending back some of the fins as well... improve the flow of air and all...

so here we have a shot of the fan relay wire cut, and was taped up... original owner had the flex-a-lite fans wired directly to the fuse box, so i'll be using the relay, and the S14 KA single radiator fan (flex-a-lite has only one working fan anyways..), i sourced the connector from the black car as well
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/21/l_56682d6cfff74d3daf6f3c3681c6606d.jpg
FIXED!!!
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/15/l_c85c9a25ef004665a911a17406fe591e.jpg
also, the previous owner did some weird **** to the driver side headlight plug, and i once again, sourced the perfect one off the black car... before the repair, the dirver side headlight would be dim, due to a bad connection.... no more!!!
burnt plug..
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/60/l_34bbcebd23954d3293815cc0b88bd7ea.jpg
black car plug FTW!!!
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/32/l_696457df909d4a69ac221fe471a326bb.jpg
and fixed.... PROPERLY... the previous owner did it with no solder, just electrical tape..
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/60/l_cb027a4626f4491085f98606f632e400.jpg
well that's all for now guys.... i pulled the front bumper off to see if i could knock some **** around on the core support to get the driver side headlight to align right, and got lazy, came in side, and now here i am typing this....
next on the list (might get to today)-
passenger side Tension Rod bracket
Z32 fuel filter
go pick up new hood and front bumper and install
put in inner fender linings from black car into gold car
get driver side of the trunk to close properly (car was rear ended, previous owner said a tree fell on it... if i see him again, he's getting punched in the face with no warning) ... plus the black doors are in PERFECT condition, and the golds are kinda dinged up...
swap the whole driver and passenger doors off the black car and ignition switch as well (original key is so worn, it can't be recut, and i have to jiggle the door locks for like 10 seconds to get it to unlock... PITA)
a few other little loose ends to tie up before motor gets here and some of the parts i ordered come rolling in....
Stay Tuned!!!

so i rounded up some parts, and my fidanza friction plate came in.... you guys know how i was worried that it was a spec flywheel and not a fidanza, and that the friction plate i ordered wasn't going to fit... well it lines up PERFECT, even came with all new hardware for install... awesomesauce...
new friction plate, w/old one.....
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/10/l_70c19122cf4247879a8ee724fd2055af.jpg
truck full of parts, and FREE parts... i have another truckload to grab... as for whats here....
S14 Zenki hood (some dings, but nothing major... easy fixes)
S14 Zenki front bumper MINT
S14 bumper reinforcement (need to fix the junk job on mine)
CLEAN fuze box cover
OEM AC fan (one one fan working on flex-a-lites anyways, and bolt to factory location on Koyo)
random misc nuts and bolts i need to finish/tie up loose ends.....
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/38/l_8edeafc043f640dcb921d37dc9ecbd08.jpg

STAY TUNED!!!!

12-30-2008, 04:55 PM
well guys, got more work done today.... getting **** done FAST.... once again, pics and captions.....
first thing was getting the replacement bumper reinforcement on... no pics of that but it took me about 45 minutes of beating the **** out of the frame on the driver side to get this thing to fit and work right but i finally got it on... here's my buddy EZ cutting the notch out for the 4" FMIC...
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/39/l_93808eed44624a14853168235ccbf179.jpg
end result... the drive side isn't sagging... that's loose frame right there... got it fixed though....
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/26/l_6d61fd0dac904086a60eb5322ab6eaf9.jpg
here i am, grinding down so extra space for the FMIC... lovely sparks...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/19/l_62296db66c8f4b389e8898f9385d9e9b.jpg
just a pre install mock up of the FMIC, and EZ throwing up his deuces... finally the bumper bracket lines up perfectly with both of the fender bolt locations... i can have a grill again!!! i completely reinstalled the FMIC the PROPER way... custom fabbed some brackets, drilled like 23489623498723 holes, and now that ***** isn't going anywhere....
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/38/l_3d5a465eacc94ce6a271f6bee61b63c1.jpg
another mock up of the front end... i know, different colors=FAIL, but appearance isn't high on the list right now.... notice how the headlights finally sit nice and in place like they're supposed to now? a 3lb sledge is my friend.... cut out all the stuff to fit the FMIC from the bumper.. cut myself pretty good too....
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/63/l_a2c55382884d46bbad6d97390d7a1e58.jpg
all my stuff came in the mail today, except my polished valve cover....
APEXi SUPERINTAKE filter and APEXi MAF adapter...
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/53/l_ec548231bba0424dbb1ecbbbde1f0534.jpg
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/11/l_44c38815f5d54c779858bfab3e3c6dab.jpg
my clutch stuff also came in today.... F1 stage 3 pressure plate, ACT un sprung 6 puck disk, and i installed the new friction plate on the Fidanza flywheel... also came with new pilot bushing, throwout bearing, and alignment tool...
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/58/l_121b05f5a74746fab24efeebf9168a75.jpg
another thing i got knocked out today, was the cracked tension rod bracket... it was cracked, and soft as cotton so i sourced it from the black car, as well as the "like new" tension rod from the black car, and installed all that.... talk about a pain in the ass... replacing simple parts on a car with front end frame damage is a pain in the ass..... was too busy doing it to take pics though, sorry guys....
things i've still gotta do before motor gets here (estimated arrival date 1/5/09)
put the hood on, drill holes for hood pins (factory bracket and mount is DONE, remember core support is F'd up..)
fully secure front bumper
reinstall all front lights and wires
almost there guys....
stay tuned.....

i liked the body kit on the black car, the stock zenki bumper and lip looks kinda weird.

12-31-2008, 10:00 AM
yeah, i liked the aero on the black car as well.... eventually i'll be getting the same kit for this car, it's really the only aero that looks good on Zenkis... all the rest are too agressive for the body lines, or look too rice...
this time, i wont go with the cheap ass Raceonusa knock off, i'll go with the REAL version, either the Version Select V1 or the origin stylish (same aero, but top quality)

it makes me sad when people cut up the front bumper supports like that... =(
i had to do it cause my FMIC is a 4" unit... and would only leave the bottom "corner" on the FMIC anyways....

12-31-2008, 04:29 PM
i wonder how the factory silvia uses a support for the FMIC??? and still remains stable, without looking like the american boo boo FMIC
Blackzenki82
12-31-2008, 04:41 PM
the factory Silvia doesn't use a FMIC, it uses a SMIC.... side mount....
if i had a 3" FMIC i wouldn't have cut the whole support, just notched it and tucked it behind it..... who who really cares anyways? it's not like you see it anyways.... and once you cut and notch, it really doesn't retain any of it's structural rigidity....
hey guys, i posted this question on my other build threads on the various other forums.... just figured i'd check your guy's in put... here we go...
what kind of REAR WHEEL HP numbers do you think i'll be making once this is completed, here's a list of my mods.... remember, factory ECU and injectors....
mods....
Black Top SR20DET
HKS cams 264/264 10.5/10.5
APEXi SAFCII (in know, i know, but i can tune a little bit with it)
APEXi Super Intake w/ 3" elbow
APEXi Full 3" DP back exhaust
Fidanza 10.5lb flywheel (yes is a mod, as less rotational mass increases/frees up WHP)
Nissan Pulsar GTIR TB2804 T28 turbo set at around 12-14lbs (custom/upgraded/rebuilt for low/mid rage spool and power)
NGK R plugs
4" FMIC
GReddy RAS (to be able to rev higher)
GReddy FMIC piping, 3" cold, 2.5" hot
Fully pulleys (water, PS, alternator)
Walboro 255
Z32 fuel filter (higher flow i guess....)
there's other "mods" just not performance oriented....
lemme get your guesstimates!!!!
Blackzenki82

thanks for the over enthusiastic reply to my WHP guesstimates lol, long time since my last update (like a week), so here we go....
been a while since my last update but here goes....
my new SR long block will be here tomorrow!!!!!! confirmed!!!! to my door!! after two weeks, I'm finally getting it....
JDM online is a good company to buy from, but screw the shipping company that they use, and screw the holiday back log on shipments....
this motor WILL be in my car before Friday, so i can have some good weekend cruising, stay tuned for install pics, trials and tribulations...
I'm feeling like a kid two days before Christmas...... almost have a automotive rubbery one...
