Basically car runs fine at idle then when given gas the car sputters and check engine light comes on let off the gas check engine light goes off and starts idling fine seems like no fuel pressure what do you guys think. ??
please help me Wanna hit up decker so bad tonight

Is your MAF good? Is your fuel pump good? Any bad injectors? Is your knock sensor working?
Sounds like MAF if your car starts to try to die out around 3000 rpm then its usually the MAF, because below those rpms the engine can idle fine without a MAF but past those rpms thats when the MAF starts to read all that air coming in and if it doesnt work right/isnt wired right it will cause the car to stall.
Any piggybacks installed? If so check to make sure the wires connected to the ECU harness arent loose or w/e. And if you dont already have it grab the FSM:
.: Ultimate 240SX Guide :. (http://www.240sxguide.com/fsm.html)
It will help you diagnose your problem.

I highly doubt its the fuel pump because that wouldn't make the check engine light come on but maybe I guess it could be the MAF I don't think its a knock sensor seeing how SOHC dont have one no piggy back injectors defiantly a possibility but thanks anyways I am just going to wait and see if anyone has had the same exact problem

What's the code?
Could be numerous things, cap, rotor, plug wire, plug, TPS, clogged fuel line, MAF, etc. Start by unplugging spark plugs one at a time to see it gets worse, that will rule out ignition, then unplug injectors one at a time to rule out fuel.

check your codes FIRST!!!!
the car will tell you wats wrong w/ it

get the ECU to throw codes, let car the car tell you.
Sounds kinda like MAF. How high can you rev it without it cutting out?

dude i was just thinking about it and it might just be the fuel pump thats sputtering under load and it throws the code cuz the ecu is reading a misfire so we can go get the fuel pump tomorrow and put that in and maybe it will solve your problem
s13 @ fullboost
11-26-2008, 12:06 PM
I was actually honestly considering that. Will you take me to the meet tomorrow to pick it up?
Let me google that for you (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1T4DKUS_en___US204&q=240sx+sohc+check+engine+light)

any smell of fuel under the hood? I had nearly the same problem, ran fine at idle, light acceleration, but at WOT or above 5 grand it fell on its face. Finally accumulated in a strong fuel smell. I replaced the regulator and associated fuel line and it fixed the problem. (see below, but that was the fuel smell issue and I believe the drivability issue as well)
*note- I also changed the MAF, ECU and fuel pump at the same time. Pump was because I had an extra Walbro layin around, ECU cuz it was an auto, and MAF b/c I thought that it might be the problem and I had 2 or 3 extra.
Hope that helps narrow it down!

Also try changing your fuel filter, if your saying that you have no fuel pressure it might be clogged.

hey hasan, how's it going! dude it really sounds like a MAF problem, before checking the MAF itself, check your actual harness plug that goes into it, corrosion, or dirty, clean it up, that happened to my car, and it turned out to just be the plug xD, hope you fix it! hit me up sometime, its been a while.
yeah definately sounds like throtle position sensor or the mass air flow sensor.

i had a very similar problem on my sohc but i didnt have a check engine light because the previous owner took it out or something...but i had the same exact problem i tried multiple things...i replaced an injector got a new fuel pump checked the maf multiple times and still had the same problem...it turned out to be my fuel pressure regulator went bad so once i installed the new one and the problem stopped....hope that helps.... good luck!!

its cuz your car was 600 dollars
your not helping.
question hasan, car only sputters towards or at a stop? can you keep on the throttle to make it stay alive? is there a limit to your revs? the day and night thing is odd.
checked your altenator? just a guess :hs:
best of luck to you with the car!
s13 @ fullboost
11-30-2008, 03:57 PM
car sputters at any time randomly and as far as coming to a stop once the car is about at 5mph it will die
s13Carlo suck my left nut
and btw how is your car running I have tried calling you a bunch today to see if your happy with the trans or not and if the clutch is still okay?

Try changing the Fuel Filter.
Can you hear the fuel pump?

Have you checked the cam angle sensor?
idk weird problem. Thats basically the same problem my brother is having with his DSM. I think his problem might be the no o2 sensors, ghetto-rigged all to hell, and the 3 letters on the firewall.

TPS sensor possibly
my money is on this, check the connection to your TPS to see if it is full of carbon/calcium

damn sohc so fussy... ur problem is almost identical to mine except i didnt have the stalling while stopping but i did have the ecu throw a code for the crank angle sensor...if u havent checked that i would try checking the ecu if its throwing a code but zenkikid has a point if its not because of the build up in the throttle position sensor there might be a bad connection further up the wire...keep with it and good luck keep us informed =)

my car is good now, and too quiet. we should just swap out everything that we think is wrong, i do have like everything for the intake plenum at my house so we can get most of that and i dont think its tps cuz it throw a code we should change your fuel pump again cuz i need mine back hah so yea.
