I have noticed a lot of scratches and dents on my crank shaft when I was replacing my rear main seal. Is this bad and if so, how bad? I will try to get pics up but i am having problems for some reason. Also is there any tip or trick to stab the tranny? I am not looking foward to it:bash:

are you talking about on the bearing journals? im wondering how you saw the journals when doing a rear main unless the motor is completely apart.

Is it just the face or the side where the gasket goes.

If you aren't using a camera phone, try setting your camera in macro mode (looks like a little flower). We'll get a clearer picture. If you are using a camera phone, try taking a picture w/ better lighting and further back.

Shit looks Pitted and Rusted to hell

It is looking from behind the flywheel and actually the flywheel was loose before. Those are the flywheel bolt holes. So is it ok or what? What will happen?

If it's only on the face, nothing.
If it's around the edge were the seal goes. You may lose the seal.
When installing the tranny.
Make sure the input bushing is fully seated all the way in to the back of the crank if you are installing a new one.
Use an alignment tool to install the clutch.
Arrange the tranny so it is level and centered to the motor. Be amazed how many people ram away at an angle.

I dont know how to replace the pilot bushing and people say that it is not really neaded so I will leave it alone. Oh yeah the new rear main seal sits a lot farther in than the old one. Is that ok. Thanks for all your help.

if you're putting in a new clutch, it usually comes with a new pilot bushing. Might as well put it in since you have it.
They're actually really easy to get out using the grease method. PM me and i'll explain it to ya. It took me 2.5 minutes once i figured out how to go about it. 2.5 hours of bullshit led up to that though

What size bolt do you use to hydro pump the bushing out?

i just dug around in my can of random bolts till i found one that was pretty close to the I.D. of the pilot bushing, without touching the sides
fill it up with grease, pound in the bolt, add more grease, pound again, little more grease, and BAM!!
then just scoop out the remaining grease and press in the new bushing

I was hoping to avoid searching for a bolt that fit and just buy the one if someone knew.

do you have your clutch kit yet?
if so, just bring in the new pilot bushing into the hardware store and find the best fit. About 3" long should be fine IIRC

This worked out like a charm. thanks man.
Well I just finished up my clutch and it did not go that bad. It took about an hour to stab it and 4 to tighten everything up. Everything is ok but there is two things.
One my car makes a weird noise when I my car is in gear and the rpms are dropping. It sounds like something is kind of rubbing but it is good exept that. Any ideas?
Two this plugs wires came completly fell out and I dont know what it is? It is the one like a foot behind the slave cylinder.

Is it when it's engine breaking? Throttle closed deceleration.

If it's the front most switch on the right side, it's the backup lamp switch.

Yes that is what I meant.

And you are right. Thanks. Is there a usdm switch I can plug in there?

Yeah, that's just the clutch slipping. Normal when breaking in a new clutch. Just as long as you are not accelerating hard enough to do it.

whew. I read that wrong the first time. Should I keep engine braking or just push the clutch in at stop signs? (Im jumping up and down) fyi

No, keep engine braking. That is the proper way to break in a clutch.
