Hey guys I want to replace the bulbs in my cluster, interior overhead light, and sidemarker lights with LED's but Im unsure of wat type LED's to get, and wat all is involved with changing the ones in the cluster. Are they soldered in or are they a 194 type bulb.
Thanks guys.

cluster has 194 bulb
yup 194 bulb is direct replacement. just bought my and installing it soon. ill post pics soon enough.
sidemarkers and interior dome lights can be created with any led in your preference. just buy a circuit board and solder it the way you want.

if analog then you'll just need 3. if HUD, you'll need 5.

I hope you got a blow job with that price, because leds for your gauge cluster shouldn't run you anywhere near that price.

$30 would include shipping right? cause when you buy them individually wide angles cost bout 5 to 6 dollars each if they are 194 type...
DreamN

damn where are you guys buying these overpriced LEDs.
If they're single LED bulbs you guys are getting ripped off, but if they're mulitple (i.e. 5 LEDs per bulb) then that's decent.

I posted quite a bit of info in this thread:
http://zilvia.net/f/chat/57215-red-guage-cluster-needles-how-2.html
here's a couple of relevent posts. you can find more info in the thread above.
Well, I thought that I would add to this old-ass thread rather than making a whole new one, try to consolidate this information in one place instead of spread all over the place. I installed JDM cluster on my s13 recently, and the lighting was dimmer and looked a little pinkish, so I thought I would try some wide-angle LED bulb-replacements. I love the way VW gauges look, so I tried blue first.
Here is how the cluster looked originally:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/nbrindley/240SX/IMG_4021.jpg
I first replaced all of the bulbs with the blue LEDs, and it was just too much blue. Also, the odometer and the legends for the warning lamps were pretty hard to read. Another side effect that I hadn't considered before is that my redline completely disappeared. I was hoping that it would be brighter than the stock bulbs, because they were pretty dim, but unfortunately, they are about exactly the same brightness.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/nbrindley/240SX/IMG_4027.jpg
So I changed the odometer and warning lamp legend lights back to the bulbs for now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/nbrindley/240SX/IMG_4030.jpg
Next time I order some LEDs, I am going to try white, according to their data sheet, they are about 50% brighter than the blue ones. I'll post results again when I get them. I also plan on replacing the warning lamps with LEDs as well.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread, I was out of town on business all this week. Anyway, these are the bulbs that I used:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/nbrindley/240SX/webpage.jpg
This is the back of the digital cluster. I don't know how the analog cluster differs.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/nbrindley/240SX/IMG_4062.jpg
The lights that are so professionally circled are the primary illumination lights. The blue one on the bottom I believe is for the clock and the dark brown ones on the left are the individual warning lamps. Number one (1) lights up the legend for the warning lamps (see the next pic for reference). Number two (2) is for the Temp. gauge. Numbers (3), (4), & (5) in combination illuminate the tach and the fuel gauge. In the picture below, I've circled the tach needle in number 5, but really I think it is just illuminated by all three, though I am not certain. Finally, number (6) lights up the odometer and the trip odo.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v685/nbrindley/240SX/IMG_4030markedup.jpg
What you see on the back of the cluster are actually little sockets that the bulbs sit in. They come out with just a quarter turn, and then the bulb will just pull out of the socket. I believe the smaller bulbs are #73/74 bulbs, though I haven't found any confirmation. If anyone can confirm this, let me know.

I want to know how to make the whole cluster light up WHITE like the 0 is on that S13 cluster.
I have some of the 5 led wide angle bulbs and they are ok... still have some slight dark spots on my s14 cluster. The main problem is there is a tint of blue... I was hoping to get a straight white.

Been working on my 2 Speedo Clusters (1 car's Green & 1's Red) 2 JDM Digi Climate LEDS - finally got them Figured out - Turns out I bought a bunch of 3mm LEDS (Not 12v) and kept blowing them.
Then, ordered the Twist Wedge LEDs and They are perfect for the JDM Climate.
Totally Forgot the Headlight switch,Hazard etc buttons around the Steering column have Bulbs in them.
SO I guess I need to put a Resistor in Line w/ the LED I'm mounting in order for the 12v not to blow it yes??

JDM Digi Climate Control LEDs are the NE0-3 buklbs BTW - just replaced mine last week.
You will need 3 bulbs (color of your choice) and 1 White bulb
The white bulb is for the Hot/Cold needles - they have Blue/red flim over the Button so Color will look better WHITE.
They are a P.I.T.A to Twist in there "Good".I ended up taking my unit Totally apart and twisted them in - tested them and got them all working - then put it back together.

The single wedge LEDs that I posted work fine for the digital cluster. The illumination is perfectly even across the entire cluster. The LEDs have an inverse cone molded into the end, diffusing the light over a much wider angle than standard LEDs.
Also, for those that are interested in converting their S13 HVAC to LED lighting, I posted quite a bit of info in this post:
http://zilvia.net/f/chat/57215-red-guage-cluster-needles-how-4.html#post1021220
Also in that link is information on converting the buttons to LEDs. However, the LEDs EDacIouSX posted might be a drop in replacement. I'm not sure, though, they weren't available when I did my conversion.

Problem is with an Analog cluster, you have 3 bulbs illuminating a lot more space.
I need to do this with my kouki cluster when it comes in, figure how I want to illuminate it. I'm thinking amber, but I dunno.

yeah, with analog it was pretty weak using single wedge. It would just light up certain spots. Bright in one spot then fade out.

These are some white 5 LED bulbs. Paid $30 shipped from someone on here including the clock light
Would be nice if the needles lit up better
I also did my climate control with super white leds. It was a bitch and doesnt even look that great.
After many hours toying with different resitors and how to make the light enter the light pipe best I realized the only way to make the climate control look good is by putting an LED on each button. Otherwise the light does not distribute evenly with that shitty light pipe even with the flat top leds
