i daily a 77 Z, i love it. havent had much go wrong with it. atlernator, corroded grounds, and clutch have needed attention in the two years i've owned it. it sucks dick on gas but it is 30 years old. its a lot of fun to hear stories from middle age guys who had one when they were young. one guy stopped me at a gas station and told me about when he had a 240z, he and his friend were blasting Led Zeppelin doing 100+ on some bridge somewhere. another guy told me about how his friend in high school stole a Z and DD'ed through the school year and then into summer. when he got caught, the dealer didnt press charges since he took such great care of the car and waxed it frequently. i get stopped all the time.

i dailyed my 280z for four years. granted it was really nice and didnt have any mechanical problems. but i still wouldnt recommend dailying an old car. but yea, the way you'd want to drive it, it would get shit gas mileage. shit mine got/gets shit gas mileage driving fairly normal.

not worried about gas mileage at all really. more about comfort/ease. i'd say reliability but we know that's entirely subjective when the car is 35 years old.

eh, its nice because its small, but comfort not so much. gets super hot in the summer, super cold in the winter. its a good spring/fall car when you dont need AC or heat. they drive pretty nice. if you're dd'ing it, i'd go for an i/h/e/ combo with a simple spring and shock setup. and maybe a sway bar. i havent driven a coupe but i know my 2+2 understeers like a mofo

i still want to get a coupe someday though when i have a real job and make lots and lots of money.

triple webers, split header/dual exhaust, lower it a couple inches, and keep it clean, that's all i'd do.

My friend is selling an old Z I think. He'd thrown in diapers for your dad.

was in great shape too.. no rust, gorgeous car. Its an earllly model 240z it has the vertical rear defrosters.

He used to daily it when he was in college, and was doing pizza delivery to pay the rent.. I was always kinda shocked that he put the car thru that, but he made out pretty good, he has a versa now i think for daily and a bike, so the car is is play thing now, last i remember he was getting a 280zx turbo swap done and he blew the turbo.

back in the mid 90s, my brother had a 78 280z.. automatic, car was a POS, but he dailyed it to school/work over 40-50 miles a day.. of course tho, that was in the 90s so figure add 15 more years or so to teh car now would be a lil different.
