Ok, I know a couple of you are in Japan, and I was wondering if you can find out something for me. Basically, I need to know how much several specific used cars go for (price-wise) in U.S. dollars. These are:
1) KPGC10 Skyline GT-R 4-door (I know I can't afford the rare 2-door)
2)KPGC110 Skyline GT-R 2-door (the one with the almost hatchback-like shape
3) late 60's-early 70's Datsun Bluebird SSS (like the 510, but again a more flowing fastback shape)
Also, what are the Japanese taxes that I'd have to pay in order to purchase the car in Japan and take it out of the country, if any.
Thanks,
Vadim

Contact these guys. I know they have already imported some bluebirds into the US. Dunno if they are stil doing it but they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks, I'll try to contact them.
I also want to add another car to the list:
1970-1974 Fairlady Z (the Japanese version of the 240Z).

www.iwakunicars.com can help you. My son works for them. They sell parts and have great connections for any JDM stuff. Their site is down right now for maintenance, but they can steer you to some reputable importers who can give you any info that they don't have.

I have a friend who has one of those. He brought it here from Okinawa. It is totally restoresd and he is currently dropping a R32 engine in it. He is preparing it for his return to the states in the summer. It will be set up completely for racing. The thing will be unbelievable!! This guy is one of the best tuners I have ever seen.

That sounds pretty sweet. Part of the reason I want one of those is because they are over 25 years old, and can be imported into the US as long as they have bumpers and lighting meeting US period requirements. I've tried to buy several of these cars that have made their way into the US ('64 Prince Skyline S54B, '63 Datsun 411 wagon. '71 Fairlady Z), but those didn't work out. I'm trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to buy one there and ship it here, as I saw a '67 Bluebird SSS going for a ridiculous $13k in L.A.

Since they are so old it is easy to get them legal. The problem is that if they are still road worthy they are awfully expensive. I have seen some pretty nice old Skylines and if they are nice, the price generally isn't. I'll ax my friends here if they have any ideas on where you can get oldies but goodies.
I'd LOVE an old (early 70's) GTR.

super street (if that is what you are reffering to ss as) is like the magazines you see at the register at the grocery store (tabloids)
its fun to read but if you believe what it says or take it seriously, you are a moron

KPGC10 is commonly referred to as a Hakosuka
and the GC110 is called a KenMary
What's the deal with Iwakunicars? I used to live in Iwakuni and if I recall correctly the joint at 4 corners was just a plain old used car lot. Are they trying to export or something?

Hey Ryan!!
No they don't export but I didn't know Richie's email. I knew Mark could connect them. If not he would know someone else.
How you doing and where are you now?

Just got an e-mail from a Japanese importer. The cars are way more expensive than I thought. The GT-R's are 35-70k (GC10 or GC110). The Bluebird SSS and the Fairlady Z are much more affordable (makes sense I guess) at 5-12k. These prices don't include shipping. I guess I'll look into the SSS and the Z. I'm going to see what Mark at Iwakuni Cars says also.

Gladhater...
Just noticed you were in 'kuni. Do you know Cook or Perkins? And this Richie wouldn't happen to be Richie Crisp would it?
I'm in Indy, go to BSU, work for Santeca.

Yes, I sure do know Joe and George. Richie is, indeed the same Richie.
I am Jordan's Dad. He works for Mark and is planning to go to the Fukuoka Auto Salon next week with Joe and George and the Velocity guys.
Theres also www.j-garage.com . You can ask Yositaka what models your after and how much your willing to pay. Once all the arrengements are done, he goes of to car auctions and tries to buy one like you wanted, for the price you wanted. I've never dealt with them though, but it might be worth to check it out.

I should be back in the general area in about two years. Hiroshima more specifically.

Hiroshima Rocks!
I love it here and could care less if I ever move....in spite of the smallness of Iwakuni.....(everybody knows everybody's business). My son has gone and gotten pretty well Japanized. He probably never will move back to the states.
You are at BSU? My wife went there back when David Letterman was there. Lafollette was brand new.

First of all Japan is not like the US, old cars do not fare well in mainland and especially Okinawa. Second those cars in a decent condition are close to 40k USD assuming you can find someone who wants to get rid of it which 9/10 times they won't sell it cause they're rare as fuck now.

Who is he? Is he currently on Okinawa? The bullshit flag is half mast.
