hey guys
i am currently in the process of getting my track car ready for next season. i am planning on racing it in the modified stock class at my local track, which is stock engine with bolt ons, no power adders unless it came stock. i have decided to stick with my single slammer, as the short block still has good compression, but i will be getting the head milled and new springs installed, and maybe a slightly larger cam. i also will have a header back exhaust, and an intake.i am going to want to get the most out of my n/a setup, but do not feel the need to do a stand-alone ems. i feel that an safc and a wideband will work just fine. my question is this, does the ka24e have a knock sensor?? if not, im going to have to find out some way to get a knock sensor hooked up.

Yes it does.
edit: I misread, I thought you asked if the ka24de had a knock sensor....im not sure about the single cams.

Your better off leaving it stock, rather than buying a S-AFC.
I would suggest giving JWT a call in your case, and explaining exactly what part of the power band you want maximized.

the issue i have with that, is the fact that they dont have my engine to make the tune correct for it. they can only tune it to an extent, but they cant dial it in.
tuning is fairly simple. you tune to a good afr, 12.3 for n/a imo, and then adjust the timing until it knocks, then back off the timing a tad. the safc should be just fine for what i want to do. i just need a knock sensor
does any one know if the ka24de knock sensor would work even if i only ran it to 5vdc and the safc??

tuning is fairly simple. you tune to a good afr, 12.3 for n/a imo, and then adjust the timing until it knocks, then back off the timing a tad. the safc should be just fine for what i want to do. i just need a knock sensor

DO you know how the S-AFC works?
If you don't already own one don't waste your money on it.
It skews the whole timing map on nissan ecu's simply by the method it works, it is very broad in any real effect it has on the AFR and the way the motor runs. I have tested them time and time again, sometimes 1% adjustment will adjust the AFR all across a range of rpm and 20% will do almost nothing. You are also adding resistance to the most important sensor on the car - the Air Flow Meter.
I suggest leaving the ecu stock and adjusting the base timing if you are on a budget. A JWT or other high quality rom tune is a better option than dyno-tuning an AFC imo, If you have the choice.
It works in a pinch but is the last thing I suggest for maximizing your power.
If you want to go piggy back and tune it in real time for your specific engine check out the AEM piggy back unit. The AEM unit works by modifying outputs, not inputs for the ECU therefore changing the way the engine works without confusing very important input data from critical sensors.

i appreciate your input as i do not have any first hand experience with an safc, though, i have a pretty solid background in obd2 tuning and hondata.
i was under the impression that the ka24e did not have computer controlled ignition, therefor the safc modifying the maf readings would only change the fueling based on air flow, and not play with the timing at all.
please correct me if i am under the wrong impression

I would try a emanage blue.. You can pick one of those up for the price of an SAFC nowadays and gives you more control... Without going too large on the injectors, it will work pretty good.
