'Trojan.Adclicker.HB' Virus? HELP!!

Hey guys I believe my computer has a virus, well i know it does. Its been acting crazy lately, whatever i have open randomly closing out and other things acting strange. I have BitDefender antivirus 2008 and its showing the virus Trojan.Adclicker.HB as being deleted or quarantined but it shows up everyday and i cant figure out how to get rid of it.

I searched a little and found a bunch of stuff about downloading more .exe files to find it, which scares me. Its located under C:/Documents and Settings/Pete/Local Settings/Temp and i cant find it manually. I tried searching all files for it and nothing is coming up. Anyone else dealing with this nonsense? My laptop is crucial for school so Im trying to get this shit straightened out asap. thanks to anyone who can help me !

these dam viruses get all up in the windows files. my suggestion would be to transfer all needed files to a external hard drive or another means of storage then format with clean install of which ever operating system your are using.

since you said this is your school laptop just make sure you backup every single file you need and DOUBLE CHECK to make sure everything is there.

Try booting into safemod and deleting it

delete what u have and dl AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista (http://free.avg.com/)

use that, and use firefox *dont use internet explorer, its garbage*

Symantec is efffing bloatware. Seriously, so many damn open holes in that shit, its stupid.

I run no antiviruses on my XP install, don't surf stupid shit, and just have Bazooka on my comp. Run it on Startup and tells me any changes to my registry and if i've got any trojans on it.

I can also vouch for AVG. Awesome and FREE antivirus. F Norton and all the others. Waste of money.

One reason it probably isn't going away is because System Restore is on. A lot of viruses/adware exploit Windows files that are saved by System Restore.

The only options I can think of are as follows:

1. Download Spybot: Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware, they're probably the best free anti-spyware programs you can get. I suggest you turn off System Restore (ONLY if you are sure that you don't need to restore your system to a previous restore point. Once you turn it off, you can't get any of your previous restore points back) and then restart in Safe Mode. Then run Bitdefender, Spybot and Ad-Aware. Once that is done, start up Windows in normal mode and re-enable System Restore.

2. Use the tools that try to automatically find the virus for you. Those usually work if they're from Symantec or other big name trusted security software developers. I usually go to Symantec - AntiVirus, Anti-Spyware, Endpoint Security, Backup, Storage Solutions and search for the virus I need to get rid of. They usually have a tool or two that can clean it out. Just run it and follow the instructions.

3. Do what blaze suggested. Takes the longest, but it is the most sure fire way to have a clean system.

While you're at it, delete everything in your "c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\temp" folder and your "c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\temporary internet files" folder

I downloaded adaware and it kept crashing saying "Unhandled Exception" I dont know what the deal was with that so i uninstalled it.

I dl'ed AVG anti-virus and just got done scanning and it found the infected files but when I was prompted to remove the files it says "Some files cannot be found" meaning i just wasted going on 2 hours now. any ideas?

Run ur virus scan in safemode to allow access to files.

In the right pane, delete winlogon.exe if the data is msole32.exe

Copy my documents to a thumb drive, reinstall windows. Be back up and running in an hour or two.

malwarebytes anti malware run in safe mode has worked for me on every one of my stupid family member's computers that i've had to clean up, then install an antivirus like AVG free so it doesn't come back.
