Crossthreaded?

The coolant drain plug on the engine is VERY hard for me to put back on. Is this normal? I can get it on about half way or maybe a little more very easily then it gets to the point when I have to use all my strength to turn it. I did this with my original drain plug when putting it back on and still wasn't able to get it all the way back on. So I took it out and the last threads I was attempting to turn were crossthreaded but the rest was fine? I figure if the hole is crossthreaded shouldn't the being threads be like that too? I kept sticking a piece of twisted shop towel in there to clean out any rust or dirt that was possibly stopping it from going in and saw some but cleaned it as best as I could. I then drenched the new drain plug I just received with PB Blaster I tried to put it in but got the same results. Should I re tap?

yeah you're probably gonna have to chase it with a tap. And get a new plug

I actually turned off the game console.

I had played through the whole game in one day, so it was late and i wasn't thinking.

Should just need a tap.

That's it.

You just run it through the threads to hopefully clean them up.

Helicoil shouldn't be needed at this point.
