View Full Version : Injector seals keep melting.. WTF!!!!

My KA24de has been working fine until recently. It started misfiring so I pulled the injector on the cyl. that was missing and the lower seal was fucked. Looked like it had melted. I replace it and it works for a day then another injector did the same thing. I repeated the process a couple of times because it kept happening and now it seems like all of them are done. It just keep dumping fuel into the cylinders. What's the deal here?

Now the car won't turn over.. I get all dash lights, seat belts and everything. When I turn the key I just get a single loud click.

Are you sure the injector isn't tearing during install?
Make sure to spray silicone lube on the O-rings before install.
One loud click?
Check the starter by tapping it with a blunt object like your dick or something.
If it turns over then you need to get a new starter.
If that isn't he case you could check your starter relay.
It's between your battery and your fender on the passenger side.
Those fail fairly commonly on s13's.

Yeah, I'm positive they aren't tearing. I can tell it's gotten too hot because the small plastic piece just above the lower seal is melted to shit on all four injectors. And I've sprayed silicone on them and my dad told me to also use petroleum jelly.

BTW it's auto.

Anybody else? What would cause the seal to melt like that?

wtf?? are you using used seals??? nissan oem?? aftermarket?? do you have any electrical shortages??
if some sort of 12v is grounding out on your fuel rail it WILL get hot enough to melt rubber like that.

are you running e85?
do you have a ignition problem too?
can you tell me exactly what the click noise is?
does it not even crank?
check the 75 amp alt fuse.
check for power in your ignition coil
make sure your fuel pump is working.
check your filter and see if its clogged
(these are things to help you get your car started)

The insulator is that plastic tip on the end right? I actually need those? A couple of em are missing on my injectors.
And I'm guessing it won't crank because it's hydrolocked. A whole bunch of fuel was dumped past the injectors. Any tips on getting it out besides waiting for it to evaporate?

If it's dumping fuel, the engine may be hydrolocked, preventing the starter from turning the motor. Pull the plugs and try to turn it over. That may be the starter issue. Be careful, the fuel will come out of the cylinders with some force with the plugs out. And please make sure to disconnect the harness going to the coil so you don't end up with a fireball.
EDIT: Beat me to it a minute too soon.

Injector Insulators
yeah, do you have that big fat piece of rubber between the manifold and the injector?

I'm positive I do, but I'll pull off the rail to be sure. What about those plastic tips that go on the end of the injector? Are those necessary?

this is truely indeed an odd turn of events.

im sure someone above has already said it but make sure you lube those o-rings up real nice.. they tear really easily on install w.o some vaseline or something

So I don't need those plastic caps on the end?

BTW it's auto.
That's your first problem already. =)
Check your cooling system. Maybe your radiator system is clogged and it's not cooling the block, not cooling the intake manifold.
Inside your intake, there are cooling passages, maybe a hose is clogged or routed incorrectly.
This is one possibility why your seals keep buring up.

How would I go about checking that?

does your car run hot? does the needle on your gauge indicate it's running hot?
Jonnyblaze
11-09-2008, 05:48 PM
No, it stays at normal after warming up. Never goes higher. Temps are always fine.

11-09-2008, 05:48 PM
you need to Time your ignition timing as well. Is timing good?
Jonnyblaze
11-09-2008, 05:49 PM
Timing is at 20* btdc.
That's where it should be correct? That's how my dad set it.
Kalashnikov
11-09-2008, 05:52 PM
It is 18*degrees I believe for KA24de. 20* degrees should be okay.
In addition, your car shouldn't be that hot to melt the injector seals. It could be your car is running way hotter than it is suppose to be. These seals are made to withstand high degrees, or your getting cheap china ones.
But, none the less, it's running too hot to melt the seats.

Is your check engine light on?
Jonnyblaze
11-09-2008, 05:56 PM
No CEL..
I'm going to get another set of injectors from a friend. I replaced the insulators and I'll use vaseline when I insert the injectors.. Hopefully that works.

You swap cams or change the timing chain?

You swap cams or change the timing chain?
All of that is untouched to my knowledge. The previous owner was a woman and just drove it to work. And I haven't touched it.

when you install injectors/o-rings you should pull off the fuel rail and prime the car to see if fuel leaks out before even running the car. i made that mistake in july with my sr. installed 550's. drove it around for a few days then the engine hydrolocked. filled cylinder # 2 up with fuel. turned out i pinched the lower o-ring on install. bent a connecting rod :(

Prime it with the injectors in the rail right?

yup, install the injectors just as you would and then pull the rail off so the bottom of the injector is visible. the prime the pump. there should be no fuel coming out at all.
