ok for some time now, my fuel pump could not make it up my hill while the needle was just about at empty but not completely dry. So today I get home from work, I am low on gas managed to fill her up with a gallon at some expensive gas station while trying to get to a cheap Arco station by my house.

I go out for the Friday and my engine turns but no ignition, I thought I needed more gas, (filled her up), nothing just turns, I can hear the starter, my buddy tells me he can smell the fuel (strange), it struck me that maybe the fuel pump is worn out. OR that I need a new distributor cap. I have a ka24de by the way.

My question is how can I be certain before I go to the classifieds or the local junkyard and get it installed. Note: some let me know if your in socal and have a fuelpump or a distributor cap for sale.

Time is against me on this one, some give me there feedback.

WAY TO BE HELPFUL.

Just the typical nissan driver. =)

Did you check to see if the pump was turning on when the ignition was on?

You most likely burnt up your fuel pump up. Take off your rubber fuel line right above the fuel filter and put the open end in a water bottle. Crank the car, if no fuel comes out, then you're pump is shot. Double check your fuel pump fuse too. If you have fuel then check for spark and air.

If your friend can SMELL fuel then you are probably getting fuel. Two ways to check. 1). Turn your ignition key to the "ON" position - you should hear the fuel pump buzz momentarily as it primes the gas to the engine.

Standard disclaimer... Poster does not take any responsibility for any actions resulting from the following posting. This second part is EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS and can result in injury or death. Proceed at your own risk.... Best if this next step is done by a trained professional mechanic. Take all precautionary measures...have a fire extinguisher readily available in the event of fire & wear appropriate safety gear. 2). Remove the fuel line around the fuel filter or fuel regulator and place it in a glass or metal jar. Have someone momentarily turn over the ignition key and check to see that fuel comes spirting out of the fuel line. Make sure the can is covered so you don't get sprayed...remember the fuel is under pressure.

These two tests will assure that your fuel pump is working. If it's not, then test the fuel pump relay located on the front passenger side of your car. Pull the relay and make sure you are getting ground from the ECU and that the relay is working as it should. If the pump and relay are working as they should be, then check to make sure you are getting spark from your distrubutor. You'll need a Factory Service Manual to test the distributor.

Anyhow, hope this helps...
