Hi,

I am from the UK. I have an artificial left leg and would like to drive a manual.
I have a 200sx s14a automatic which I love.

But am thinking of getting a manual car. What clutch control systems do you have in the USA and how do you rate them?

Here there are only semi-auto electronic systems like Guidosimplex which costs $3000 and sound a bit rubbish since you have little control over the clutch, just a button to activate it.

Thanks.

You could set up a button on the shitfter knob, hydro thumb button?

I have seen a drifter in japan hand the lever on the steering wheel... look really hard to do at 1st, but he did REALLY good... drove better than me! lol...

$3000 for a clutch button is a bit much...I'd make you one for cost...before letting you waste $3000!

well good luck bud!
PEACE!

Weld Japan worked with an Italian company (Guidosimplex) that does vehicle modification for disabled individuals.

It's pretty sick

Here's the link to 2 of the articles:

Just something to look into.

well, the clutch doesnt really have much too it. i bet it wouldnt take much work to make one of those hydro E brakes into a clutch lever. it may take some getting used to it but its the same concept as using a pedal. it would be impossible to do a lever in a LHD car tho

how much of your leg can you use? maybe you could adapt a prostetic leg to work with the clutch pedal??

good luck dude!

Cant really use the left leg. I dont really want any faffing, need to just into the car and drive it without having to strap in etc.

From what I understand there were simple lever systems for operating the clutch until recently. Now all computerised.

Guidosimplex is one of the systems here. They do a duck clutch which offers more control for the sporty driver. But one company said it had problems with it. Install problems I reckon. TBH I dont trust any of these installers to know one end of a car from another. And they want big bucks for it.

Maybe it would be worth driving a car to Italy/Germany and getting Guidosimplex to install it direct.

Im curious. Would doing the conversion make the car legal to drive?

lots of disabled people have levers or buttons in place of pedals and it's perfectly legal.

he's on another continent though, so of course the legalities are gonna be different.
but i think any democracy restricting physically disabled persons driving would be discriminative.

something along the lines of a motorcycle hydraulic brake lever right on the shifter?
