probably subframe bushings are shot. take a look, they are commonly worn to shit

If you get collars you wont need bushings and vice versa.

are u serious? this doesnt even sound like the issue. i had shit stock rear subframe bushings on my old US spec S14. please, enlighten me. any noise while shifting or slowing down should not have much, if anything to do with rear bushings. this can be many things and you need to be more specific.

Are you serious? This is probably the most frequent problem on S14s and you think it's something else?

Clunk while downshifting means he has bad subframe bushings *and* he doesn't downshift perfectly and clunk coming off the throttle means he has especially bad subframe bushings.

The change in torque applied to the wheels is counter-applied to the suspension, the subframe pivots on whichever bushing is in best condition and clunks against the chassis.

yeah, i had the problem, installed some collars i got from somebody for like 20 bucks, took 15 minutes max since i had an impact gun, noise went away, though it didn't get rid of ALL the subframe movement, so i'll probably get some solid or harder rubber or urethane bushings later on.

If you're looking to just get rid of the noise though, you can't beat the collars for the price.

Thank you. Nice to see newer members who know what they're talking about. Magical +1 for you.

I had the same noise on my 14 so i bought some SPL subframe collars and put those in and the noise did get better but now i hear a different clunking noise. I think its from my diff meaning I need new diff bushings as well
