I've noticed this before...but recently I kept thinking "Do they really glue like this in the factories?". Kinda looks like shit too me.

There is like blobs of glue every now and then. It's in the engine bay, and underneath all the plastic and carpet interior. Is mine just a shitty job or is this the culprit of a previous owner who didn't know what he/she was doing?

Then I always have that thought that maybe this was done in factory and that is why pretty much everyone building a good car stitch welds and such all over the chassis.

no thats factory, they don't give a shit how it looks cause they didn't design the interior of the car to be bare, its all supposed to be covered, how could they have known that years later a buncha kids would get ahold of 240's and strip them down and slide them

Nissan used this shit on TONS of their cars, might still use it today, but I'm not sure.

I like calling it Chass-Stiff. Cuz thats what its supposed to do. Keep the Chassis Stiff. (For the most part)

It's called seam sealer. Pretty much all cars have it somewhere. Use a wirewheel, shit comes right off.

Caulking, either strip it out and re-caulk, or quit complaining.

if you are talking about the sound deadening on the floor, then the best way to remove it is with dry ice. It de-bonds the stuff and you can just "peel" it off.

even after you use the wire wheel there is still a small amount of sealer sandwiched between the metal sheets. welding thru that is horrible.
make sure you stich in a well ventilated area or else you will get dizzy:eek::eek:

There are some automotive adhesives that can actually be stronger than if it were welded. Not the stuff you have pictured though...thats just run of the mill seam sealer. The stuff I'm talking about is the adhesive they use to attach the entire side of the car (A+B pillars, rear quarters, etc is all glued on as one solid piece). If you do plan on stitch welding all the seams, you may want to consider reinstalling seam sealer over you're work, its a great moisture barrier and does a pretty decent job. With these older cars, every little step towards preventing rust helps.

i already hammer+chisel all the sound deadening on the floor... the back and passenger side was left with small amount of residue, the driver side is COVERED in this residue, some people say gasoline others paint thinner and stuff like that should get it off... what did you guys use?

thinner should be able to get rid of that stuff. Just make sure you're in a well ventilated area when you're doing that. We don't need you passing out in the back of your s13:keke:
