I'm planning to have one installed this week, but I would feel better if I heard some feedback good and negative about the unit. If you could tell me what kind of driving you do and if you had any problems with the unit not locking. I've read that there's some chatter when it's engaged but I'm sure w/ proper break in that will decrease. This is a big investment so I would apreciate your feedback.

I have a Kaaz 2way unit. If chattering is not something you can abide, I recommend against it and suggest you find a nice Torsen diff or VLSD. I hardly notice the chatter any more, but to people who are unfamiliar with my car, they think something's wrong.

Anyone know anything about the Quaife ATB diff? It's supposed to be gears instead of clutches. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about them.

AFIAK they use the same torsen style (helical) as the s15 diff

Quaife is definately the way to go if you have the money for it. No clutches that need to be replaced all the time and no chattering. It's also not just a baseline limited slip. It actually diverts more power to the wheel that is gripping.

isnt that like a open diff then?
so if i go drifting (as example-not for flame) i want power distributed to both wheels to push me, so if it diverting to one wheel, wont it cause me to spin out?

help me understand this!

Dousan. I don't think that a power-transferring lsd unit is best for drifting if you wan't both wheels in the grip-slip stage at the same time. But, for drag-racing, autocrossing, ect., a power-transferrance system is the way to go, to get out of the hole/out of a turn with as much power on the ground as possible, even if it's only one wheel.
In an open differential, the power is transferred to the wheel that is spinning the fastest. That's why when one wheel starts spinning on an open diff, it usually doesn't stop.

You can kinda think of the Quaife as the exact opposite of an open diff.

this has got to be the most NUB question ive asked in a long time but whats the difference between a 1.5 way LSD and a 2 way? No ones everyreally explained it to me. A diff is my next purchase though as well and I know I need to do research but eh.

from "the man" Moto at Club4ag

2 way is preferred by users who want positive and stable LSD action in both decelerating and accelerating. it has a potential to make more initial understeer for those who have problems pitching the car with lack of skill or with suspensions that are tuned for high speed stability. Drifters prefer 2 way because of the more equal locking effect in both on and off throttle conditions.

1.5 is a compromise for those who seek more agressive turn-in as the wheels are more free to initiate turns in less agressive turning inputs. In autocross it might be beneficial as suspension tuning affects the initiation into corners less than 2 way. It offers less lock up in deceleration mode for those who prefer a more stable braking into corners. It offers the same acceleration lockup as the 2 way out of corners.

Hmmmmmm....interesting.
Before the Shine St. meet on Sat, I was going to go with a 1.5way. After that day, I was leaning to 2.0way after the many reccomendations (dousan being one of them). After this thread, I will probably go with 2way definitely.

Dousan, your reply from "the man" Moto at Club4ag was very informative as well as Jeff's.

so for road racing, its best to get a 1.5way? or 1 way?

From my understanding of it, the 1.5 way would be good for
Auto-X/Road Racing/Street , while a 1 way would really only be useful for a Drag Strip.

Hmmm, for those out there that have these units, what kind of advantages/disadvantages have you noticed with going with a 1.5 way compared to the 2 way? Particularly, I have been interested in the 1.5 way, since I will probably start trying to auto-x at some point with my car and I typically run it on the streets. Would this be a smart choice? Or would it be better to go with a 2 way? Reasoning? Thanks.
