Hey guys i finally bough another 240sx this time a S14 Zenki after i sold my S13/SR20det like 3 years ago.Since i got this one i been considering doing a swap but really don't want to go the SR route again and the KA don't really caught my attention, and after looking and the LS1 and the VH45 swaps i knew what i wanted but i want to know from people that actually done the swap and estimate of how much to have a daily driver up and running what type of fuel/ignition management to use, pros and cons vs each swap and best of all anybody from central Florida that can help or actually do the swap i'm a grease monkey myself i did most of the work on my old S13.
a fellow member gave me some info but again want to hear as much opinions and ideas as possible

The motor with transmission are alot, cheapest one i seen is 3800. Than you have to modify the cross member, get custom motor mounts, driveshaft, etc. Its going to cost you a pretty penny. I'm just guessing here but around 5 to 6 grand for a good swap.

guess a little higher your looking at around 7-8k for a proper swap maybe a tad more still

For a full turn-key swap. You're looking at around $10,000+. Luckily, if you have all the right tools and some know how. You can do it for less than half.
You can find the LSx's pretty cheap actually. I can get them (here in Canada) for about $1500 for engine. $2500 for engine and tranny.
Searching seriously generates results. Being lazy... not so much.

Tools is not a problem, the knowledge is not a problem i'm a grease monkey myself plus my uncle is a great 30+ years muscle car mechanic who built a 67 pro street camaro, a 450+ whp daily driver 68 camaro, a 69 stock chevelle, and a 67 custom built bettle all owned and built by him with my help of course
i just gathering as much info as i can before starting to spend the money and this is not something i'm going to do right now
as for the money i think that compared to building a SR20DET is not much of a difference when trying to achieve the same HP level
i did a SR20DET swap like 3 years ago and in total i spent around $7000 initially that's engine, microtech stand alone computer, radiator, mounts, driveshaft, intercooler,fu el pump, fuel lines, well all the goodies for a well built swap and i wasn't even close to the power the LS's engine make, plus not to mention the times something broke, like water pump, turbo, plus the hours paid at the dyno plus the money spent for someone to tune my car and kind of teach me the very basics of understanding my standalone system so after all i still think is a great idea plus the faces of whoever look at your engine bay is priceless not to mention the sound is waayyyyyy much better than any 4 cyl or even the sound of RB's want thing i'm going to miss is the sound of the BOV haha

2jz-gte swap will be about the same price as a LS swap(maybe even a little cheaper). Stock and aftermarket parts are easy to find. Stock block can hold 800+HP. And you even get to keep the sound of the BOV to boot!!!
Oh and a LS motor does NOT sound better than a boosted inline 6 IMO.

That price list is a little far fetched. I'm thinking 10 G's at the most for a turn key, even less if you DIY. I'm almost finished with my 2jz swap into my Kouki S14, and I went with a big single and engine management and I may be at the 10 G's mark at most. But to each his own. I just think Japanese engines should go with japanese cars and vice versa.
That's a lot of extra crap you don't really need if you're doing it on a budget. I'd like to see you swap an LS1 into a car for way less than that plus have things like an LSD, etc. etc.

its all about patience and searching like i said from the beginning this is not going to be a next month thing probably a year until a come up with all the necessary parts and money i took me 1 year to complete my S13 in the meanwhile i hunt for parts until i find what i need
and yes i'ma big fan of nissan out of 14 cars i owned 8 have been nissan/infiniti but i do it for fun i don't race, drift or anything when i did my S13 i did it for fun and the occasional match on my way to work with cars that did not believed that their $50k+ car was beaten by a old nissan haha
i appreciate your comments and ideas but my mind is set already and when something get stuck in my mind i have to do it... stubborn you could say haha

Well that 2JZ price list contains ANYTHING but crackhead pricing, so I'd compare apples to apples.
I'm not saying one is way cheaper than the other, but I think that you'd find getting up to 500+rwhp way cheaper with the 2JZ than the LS1. If you're talking about a 350-400 rwhp setup, then hell, an SR or KA-T is a pretty cheap way to get there and it drops right in.

If you really need to ask such vague questions I highly question your ability to do the swap.

Im swapping a 2jzgte into a s14, my projected final cost is less about $5k thats with the stock twin turbo, r154, ruckus racing mounts, and all the goodies. Granted im doing all the work myself but thats where you REALLY cut costs. I might go single turbo but i wouldnt see any reason why you couldnt swap a 2jz into a s-chassis for less than $5-6k depending on what you get your parts for and who you get them from.
Ebay and google are your BEST friends when it comes to these swaps, theres also www.2jzswap.com that forum is FULL of tons of great info regarding the swap. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Yea, I'm actually almost finished with my swap. Gotta finish the I/C piping this weekend. What sucks is trying to find a muffler shop that will do a custom 4inch exhaust for me!! Only place is a local diesel shop(that deals with 4 inch piping) and they wont custom make me an exhaust!! Looks like I'm gonna have to take a stab at it myself. Finding the piping is no problem. What sucks is because the exhaust on a 2JZ sits on the passenger side and not the drivers side(like a SR, KA, or RB) you have "cross" the exhaust over to the driver's side. I found the best place to do this is right where the driveshaft stabs the tranny. So, I'm gonna do a 45 degree bend right there. I plan on doing the exhaust full V-band. Yea, it sucks the exhaust sits on the passenger side for exhaust running issues, but there sure is alot more space on that side to run a bigger turbo!!!:hsdance:

Alright find yourself a motorset out of a 98+ camaro or firebird, avoid the vette's! The LS1 offered with the corvette was a drive by wire throttle body to swap that in you'd have to change the throttle body to the camaro or fire bird which is run by cable. Other then that you will need to upgrade fuel system with a 255lph fuel pump along with some different fittings needed to hook up the the gm fuel rail. You will need to upgrade your radiator, daul electric fans.
Unless you are some master fabricator look into buying the mounting kit from hinsonsupercars.com. And to clear your notched cross member you will need a 04+ GTO oil pan.
That is a basic run down, but I will warn you there is ALOT involved and it will be costly but the end result is a STOCK n/a engine making 350ishrwhp 360ishtq.

Well clearly you don't like the power, therefore you must just like the sounds turbocharged engines make. So many people fail to realize that maybe the grass really is greener on the other side? Sure it ain't Japanese but it has a lot to offer in stock form and parts are cheap and common.

Have you been under a rock this whole thread? $1500-18,000. Your call.
As for arguing over NA and boost, pointless. LS engines have the biggest aftermarket support besides the old 305/350s and parts are cheap. Anyone with a brain can figure that out.

Shit you want a LS swap for cheap, go out and buy a used Camaro Z28 or firebird.
I see them on craigslist and autotrader for 5-8G's all day long. Take the motor and tranny out and part out the rest of the car to get some of your money back. Took me 5 seconds to look on Austin craigslist and came up with this:

Parts list I put together comes out to be about 8grand, and this is far from half assed cheap shit. It does include a wee bit of shopping around though to find the better prices online but worth it. I laugh at how many times people say why not just do a sr20det instead of a ls1 the sr is better..... Some people are just ignorant to realize that there is more out there, weigh out the pros and cons and choose whats best for you!

thats what i was saying one can find a whole car for more or less what they are asking on your link take whatever u need sell the rest and get some money back to finish the swap, SR20DET are good no doubt but when you have 350+ hp in stock form and probably 450+ with some minor mods that's even better plus the being different factor is another plus, the faces of people when the realize u have a LS1 under the hood s priceless

checkout hinsonsupercars.com they have everything you need and you can send your subframe to then and the wire harness and they will make it fit in and do the harness for 320 so when you plug it in it starts right up. but you are looking at probably just under 9000 and ull have your beastly ls1 or ls2 powered 240. and another place if you dont wanna spen 1000 on having your subframe fabricated you can go to sikky.com they have a package that will include everything you to bolt the motor in for 1750. that includes oil filter relocator, oil pan and gasket and they have instructions on they're site, motor mounts, tranny mount and crossmember, drive shaft, ect. but yeah those 2 sites are one of the most experienced places but hinson supercars is the most experienced cuz i think the did 1 of the first ls1 240sx and it was in an s14 also. hope this info is helpful to you and good luck. im working on doin the swap myself here in a month

yea alabama is probably the closest for you since your in florida. sux that xatracing closed in florida cuz they did the ls1 swaps also. but hinson is pretty exspensive to install. like 8600 for everything but not including the motor thats why im just goin to do the swap here at my work and save like 4000 doin it myself

^The right choice. The swap is perfect, way too many pros over any cons that can be worked out. If only the prices went down some more then the common man could afford it too heh. Could be bad, could be good. SRs are overhyped whores that cost way too much with JDM and 'everyone got one' taxes

i agree in the long run the LS swap cost less money to get an SR running in the same power level constantly and as reliable it takes big bucks been there done that believe me, plus it it never sound that good or have the instantaneous torque you have with an LS plus the wow factor is unbeatable i set my mind on that swap but as u say its not easy to afford for the common man

Man ive been driving my ls2 s14 for about 2.5-3months now its the way to go!!!!. You can't go wrong with a lsx swap. 2jz's and 1jz's are good too but they are older motors and not as reliable. LS2's are more expensive but, you get what you pay for IMO. You can also command more $$$ for your car if you ever sell it too:wiggle:

its the money that i dont have. If i sell my sr swap i could get like 3.5K tops for it and thats only enough for an ls1. Than i'm going to need the kit which is close to another 2 grand. Maybe one day i'll have it..

There is so much ignorance in this thread. Love it or hate it, please do your research before commenting.
LSX = LS Extreme: LSX Chevy Engine Block - GM Performance Parts - GM High Tech Performance (http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/tech/0702gm_lsx_engine_block/index.html) and here GM Performance Parts | LSX Engines (http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/lsx/index.jsp)
LS series = Gen III and IV LS Engines | LS1 Engine | LS2 Engine | LS7 Engine | LQ9 Engine (http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Parts/showcase_detail.jsp?engine=2)
I didn't come up with this. GMPP did:Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS) (http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=j3ovs2.6.2)
There is a huge difference between LS series and LSX series GMPP engines. Externally they are similar, but that's where most of the similarities end. http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/EngineShowcase/index.jsp?engId=LSX&engine=LSX&sku=19166454&engCat=ls
the new GM Performance Parts LSX takes the LS-series V8 to the ultimate extreme
At least be respectful and use the right terminology so we know what you're talking about.
You wouldn't want people talking nonsense about SR, KA, RB, VQ, whatever as well.
Educate yourself.

LSx are great motors and I believe you get what you pay for. It will be cheaper to obtain higher HP levels in the long run but stock for stock or if you plan on keeping it will be more expensive. LSX and 2jz parts are expensive
