I was a little confused, everybody said I had to remove the IM. I just finished removing the whole EGR system in 2 hours, spent less than $5 and didnt remove the IM - and I have huge hands. No pix yet.

-100k ohm 1/4 watt resistor
-10" if 14ga wire
-2 nickles
-your version of an EGR block off plate/plug
10mm socket
12mm socket
A small saw to cut EGR pipe

1st, remove the exhaust mani heat sheild. I then cut the exhaust manifold EGR pipe as close to the m24x1.5 bolt as possible. I bent the pipe down so I could get a wrench in there. Broke the bolt loose, put 2 nickles in the port and torqued it down - no leaks. If you can then cut the pipe a little further upstream so it can manuver out easier.

Then I moved to the IM side. Removed all brackets holding the Brake booster hose. Removed fuel pressure reg hose and brake booster hose. remove all vac lines going to both egr valves. Unbolt the egrc-bpt and manuver it out. Next attack the EGR valve with a 12mm socket. There are only 2 bolts, if your unbolting 3 then you need a custom 3 point block off from ebay. Once you have unbolted the EGR valve you may need to rotate and wiggle the whole assembly out. There is a large plate thats bolted with 2 10mm bolts to the firewall, you may need to remove that POS and toss it if you ahvent. If you have A/C then you maybe in for some trouble. I think a line runs back there.

The EGR valve will come out, trust me. Once its out, inspect all the hoses. There will be the Evap/EGR solenoid down behind the block, right below the 4th runner. I unbolted the 10mm nut, unclipped the harness plug and pulled off the vac lines. Removed the solenoid. There are now 3 ports connecting to the back of the block, use some vac caps to seal those.

Inspect the hoses, mine were cracked. If you have a EGR block off plate install it, I used a rubber plug that was cut to size and plugged the hole.

Then down below runners 2 & 3 there is the EGR temp sensor. I made a custom harness/resistor assmbly. I took 2 14ga wires, soldered each end to the resistor, heatshrinked the whole thing then wrapped it in loom. Then crimped red crimping couplers on both ends. I made a U. Looks stealth and clean. I snipped the wires at the sensor, took the wires and pulled them up through runners 2&3. I then used the 100kohm 1/4watt resistor setup and crimped it all together. Self explanitory.

Made sure all hoses were secure, cleaned up and I officially removed the EGR system in 2 hours.

Well done sir.

I did most of the same thing on my S13, except mine didnt throw a check engine light without resistors.

Edit: dont remove the Evap/EGR solenoid, it will throw CEL 105

Why remove the EGR valve? You gain no horsepower at all, I think you may actually LOSE gas mileage, and you drop a whole whopping pound off the car. Doesn't make sense.

Didn't they just throw EGR's on cars to pass CA emissions?

yeah im in the process of putting on my OBX header. im gonna keep my EGR. i couldnt get the damn nut off so i just cut it and im gonna put a hose on it. im sure it will be fine since the material of that tube is not a very good conductor of heat and i dont think it will get that hot in there. just doing my part to help our OZONE! lol jk im just too lazy to do all that work.

Possibly...

EGR valves suck.
"Yeah, let's design something that will shoot hot, dirty, already-combusted air right back into the intake! Good idea, right?!"
No... Just, no.

gas mileage dude. its a good device for nox.

Whether EGRs in this car or just EGRs in general are bad is a moot point. Rendering original emissions components nonfunctional is a violation of both state and federal laws for public roads.

You may fail visual and/or emissions inspection. Be very careful what you do.

because it's a waste of space, especially on a track car, and it doesn't exactly help the car either. you have no idea the amount of EGR shit i pulled off the VH41 going in my S13.

In florida and other states with no inspection sticker, it's legal.

With this I agree. It clutters off-road and track cars with no performance purpose. I would remove for simplicity so you can service other components more easily.

This is not quite true. Federal emissions laws apply in all 50 states. FL defers to federal law for emissions.

By definition, removing EGR is illegal in all states, including FL, regardless if the state officials choose to enforce the laws or not. You are still violating federal laws.

Then of course you can have rogue states that do not defer to federal authority. Then you have in effect another Confederacy?

^hmmm I think so. that'd be cool huh?

"yeah because of our inspection laws, we're a confederacy again" :keke:

maybe you guys havent seen the heat the EGR pumps into the manifold. The rear metal pipe that connects the intake to the exhaust mani can crack, thus leaking fumes into the engine compartment, and creating a power robbing exhaust leak - because its before the o2.

Everybody knows its illegal, its smeared on everysingle EGR thread. I didnt want this discussion to take place here.

Hot intake mani - high chance of hoses cracking due to heat in that area - A faulty EGR is actually worse - no loss in mileage what so ever unles your throwing a cel. Higher throttle response with less vac lines that are probably cracked, the list goes on.

Plus you have no idea how much space this frees up.
