I was looking at mags, and started reading about Urethane body kits, "virtualy unbreakable." Destroying a body kit was my only drawback to getting a kit, cuz i autox, and this happens.

Anyways, does anyone know if they make a body kit out of Urethane for the s13?

All the better reason to not hit cones.

I'm at a loss to understand how car body-parts can readily be considered 'in danger' at an autox, otherwise.

And 'virtually unbreakable' body-parts can be had with using FRP (fiber-reinforced-plastic, i believe)..

i dont think they make urethane kits for our cars at all. mostly only for hondas. the best thing we got is FRP.

i take it your car is 240, so what kind and were did u get it

also for the comment on cones, where i race, its a real course, no cones, just lil ditches, that could destroy a normal kit

urethane kits are NOT unbreakable, they just don't crack as much as fiberglass, they can still tear and warp in hot weather

the kit is made by erebuni but i dont think they still make it because the kit is sorta old.

Because there will be an issue when it comes to painting plastic parts.

Actually I think a lot of bumpers are made out of ABS plastic including those on our cars...

The disadvantage of urethane is that it is heavier than fibreglass, that is why most kits are made out of fibreglass or FRP at the very least

Is there something you aren't getting? There was a question about "why not make kits from plastic," followed by "cuz plastic is too hard to paint." There isn't any difference from our stock "Urethane" body parts and some plastic parts.
Also.. "fiberglass or frp at the very least" is somewhat incorrect.
FRP is very expensive because it has the weight of fiberglass and the flexibility near that of urethane. It's great stuff.

good point jeff, i forgot to mention the varying costs

costs, from least to most expensive

Fiberglass IS FRP. FRP is fiber-reinforced plastic/polymer. Which is fiberglass. It's a very generic term. They don't use the word "fiberglass" in Japan, they just call it FRP. I guess people in the US started thinking that everything in Japan was so JDM-tyte that FRP was this super material.

That having been said, there are "hybrid" FRP materials used by companies like Ings and Monkey Magic. Like you said, they are the weight of fiberglass but with much more flexibility. Still, I don't think they have the durability of urethane. To just call it "FRP" is incorrect. I'd hate for someone to buy an FRP kit from Japan under the impression that it was going to be super durable and find out that it was just fiberglass. Granted, Japanese kits tend to be less layers/thinner so they are more flexible as it is.

As for painting urethane/plastic/whatever, paint is paint is paint. Any decent shop can take care of your painting needs regardless of the material.

Oni, I'm sure they are out for the car, but they are not mass produced. You can have bumpers (even entire one piece front ends), and doors made of CF. It's not extremely difficult to do, its just that most people who buy CF parts want to show it off and leave it unpainted, which makes the job 10x harder for the fabricator if they want to have a good weave pattern.

I believe I saw some FRP body kits being sold by www.importfan.com

My FD is black, and one of the FC is all primered grey about to be painted white. It's an 86 GXL, NFS. I also have a 1987 GXL parts car, no engine, no tranny good condition body silver/blue with red hood ( O_o)b that one is for sale-- i'll give it away practically for free, just pay for shipping. PM me for more info

Yea. That's what I was getting at. I should have been much more specific on that, sorry. Ings does sell a "fpr" kit and a "hybrid" kit at 2 different prices.
Also.. that paint is paint comment.. yea, but shops need to put a flexibility compound in paint for plastics/bumpers so that the don't spiderweb when impacted.

I didn't mean that all paint is the same. I meant that any decent paint shop will be able to paint a bumper regardless of what material it is. They will also know that you have to put flex additive in.
