The 3 months long wait is finally coming to an end, it is coming next week! I have order a set of Wedsport TC105 (15lbs :)) 17x9 +10 all around for my S14. This rim and sizing are my final decision after selling a 18x9.5 +12 because considering they are much heavier. However, I like the look of 235/40/18 on a 18x9.5. They look pretty much perfect with the amount of stretch.
Now for my 17x9, I'm thinking either 235/40 or 225/45
what you guys think? I've looked wheel fitment whore thread. I want a thinner wall look. Would 225/45 look thinner than 235/40 after stretched?
Here are some pics of 235/40 on 17x9. I would not know how it would looks on a lowered S14.

the 225/45 will look a tad bit smaller, but not too much.

245/40-17
Matches the stock OD better and easier to find.

My friend is running 235/40/17's on 17.9+15's all around
No roll, no pull.
Only shock and spring.
Needs lowering pretty badly, but I dont think he'll rub with 245's in the back.
235's in the front look hella beef with his stance though.
I say 245/235 and roll the rear. maybe the front.

It depends what you are trying to do?
Daily drive only? Track?
If you want to be able to rotate your tires, 235/40 would be more ideal than 225/45, since 225/45 is a bit too tall imo for S chassis
The only issue I see with 235/40 is up front depending on how low you are, it will scrub a lot more on the inside fender well, so you will probably need to hammer things out of the way, etc
For me personally, if it was a daily driver I'd recommend 215/45/17 all around
If you say oh but I'm a daily driver who needs a ton of tire / doesn't want to stretch / I'm putting down mad HP then sure 235/40/17 all around (but keep in mind you should be honest with yourself...if you put too much tire that you don't actually USE you're just burning up your money literally)
You could also go 215/45/17 F + 235/40/17 R
But again, all depends on your personal preference and what you will be doing with the car
So in summary your options I suggest are:
1) 215/45/17 all around
2) 215/45/17 F + 235/40/17 R
3) 235/40/17 all around

Thanks for so informative responds! I know it is not ideal, but I'm trying to aim for occasional track and daily drive. The another goal is definitely able to rotate tires. 235/40 should be a great size for what I'm aiming for. I've been driving with stock 205 for awhile, it really don't hold the car good especially with bigger brakes now, so i guess 215/45 wouldn't get too much of traction gain vs. 235?

235/40/17 all around is gonna be the best bet. dont stagger tires on non-staggered rims.
