View Full Version : Wheel tire combo size question

How's it going? Well I have searched and can't seem to find any pics or posts about this particular combination. I read and understand the basics concept of positive offset and negative offset,
so If i have a pair of 17x9 +35 5Zigen fn01rc wheels, what size tire widths should i run and would these clear? (for the back wheels)
and if anyone has pics i'd appreciate it
thanks

most ppl on zilvia will tell you to run like 195's and 50mm spacers....
proper tires would be 255's. and yes it will be "sunk" but would still look better than sticking out 2" with stretched to shit tires

so i would need 50mm spacers to clear the back?
right now i am on stock suspension, but may get coilovers in the future.

no, you would need huge spacers for the "drifters" on here to tell you it looks cool.

Its not even a "drift" thing, why even run aftermarket wheels if they're not gonna be flush? Stock wheels are sunken and just putting on different wheels that are still sunken just doesnt make sense

17x9 > 15x7
fn01's > steelies & 7 spokes
some people run wider wheels for the FUNCTION
ask yourself "what do i plan on using this car for"
if its drifting, by all means stretch tiny tires on there. if its for anything else, dont be stupid.

i second to that:coolugh:

yea i dont want to stretch the tires, i am concerned with the fit of the wheel and tire being flush as possible, but it seems like 17x9 in the rear with +35 is not optimal?

so getting your car to look nice by running wider wheels that actually sit flush is stupid!? Where is the logic in that? I daily drive my car and I have flush wheels is that stupid?

How low do you plan on going with the coilovers?

I'm assuming this is for an s13? My friend ran xd-9's 17x9.5 +17 I believe with 235's and they were perfect if your going for a nice flush look with no poke. I would run 225's on them and get atleast 15mm spacers.

depends on your definition of "flush". running the same width tires as stock with even less of a contact patch than stock is stupid for anything other than drifting. unless you just wanna look "cool". then consider yourself a ricer

umm, by the way, are we talking about S14 or S13?
however, 9x17 +35 will fit without spacers on both cars. i run 9.5x17 +38 on the rear with no spacers and they clear everything just fine. but if you want it to look good, you gotta add some spacers.
and i suggest you run at least a 245 tire, if not even a 255.

the only way i would agree with that is if he does grip driving......and actually most "ricers" have sunken battleship weak offset wheels!!

why even run aftermarket wheels if they're not gonna be flush?
price/budget
availability
tire clearance
driving style
personal preference
suspension characteristics/goals
just because you're buying aftermarket wheels, doesn't mean you have to get the exact primo setup right off the bat. there are plenty of reasons.
to be fair, we should provide a link to the max rubber thread and a good offset calculator too.

ricers got their reputation because they put looking fast over actually being fast, and taking the half-assed route to get there. i'd say drift cars are more like show cars, some well executed, but still just for showing off. i'm takling about the guys with the sparkly paint and big body kits and uber flush wheels, not the guys they go out and actually drift.

doing thing to "enhance" (that is to be debated) appearance while detracting from performance = RICE

^^^I agree with aNskY but they're not all "ricers". Just young or not into DRIVING for performance. I like flush but I don't like stretch and I'm definitely about increased performance but streetable. There IS a middle ground where you can look good(not perfect credit card space "flush") and still increase your performance.
What needs to be asked of the OP is what DO YOU want? Street car with performance over "looks"? Drag car? "Drifter scene" car? Actual Drift car(which tends to travel on a trailer to events)? etc. We (Zilvians) need more information to help with you with technical advise, otherwise its all opinions, which turns into "mine's better then your's" arguments.
245/17 are common, a decent performance size for those rims, and relatively inexpensive. Use that tire and mount them, then measure to determine the size spacer that would give you the look YOU want. Don't be a sheep. Do what YOU want on YOUR car.

agreed, i actually run a slight stretch but only to ease fitment until i get widebody :)

Cool thanks for all the replies, yeah, i have an S14, and I am going for optimal performance, but from what the replies are telling me, it looks like 17x9 with +35 offset in the rear should clear fine, but not be flush. (im not in a rush to get spacers)
Flush looks awesome, but there's nothing necessarily wrong with them being a little sunken in. Although I don't know specifically how this affects a car's performance, i DO KNOW that if your wheels/tires are STICKING out, then thats bad cuz it creates wind resistance for the wheels to have to overcome. (hence fender flares)
anyways, what about sidewall size to go with 245 tires? 40 right?

my cousin had 17x9+15 fn01rc with a 245/40/17 on the rear of his s14 and had no problems with rubbing. He was only dropped on some lowering springs and kyb shocks.
the 245/40/17 looked pretty square on the 9j.

not that great of a picture but you get an idea...

Depending on what suspesion you have, 17x9j +35 will probably hit the front strut. Get atleast 10-15mm spacers and it should look pretty good. Slap some 245/40 17s and it should be square on the wheel.

i dont think so?
my 17x10 +25 clears with lots of room to spare (tein coilovers), and thats about 1/2" farther in.

My bad, I meant to say up front, all dependent on suspension. Ive had regular suspension setup and I barely cleared with 8j +40. Some folks barely clear suspension with stock R34 GTR rims (9j +30).
As far as your 10j, Ive had FN01s 10j +12 not clear my MRs without an 8mm spacer. Now I got a set of RPF1s 10j +18 clear with 3mm spacers on a set of Aragostas.

215 and a 25mm spacer, actually. Or to be more aggressive, run a 205 and a 35mm spacer (stack a 25mm and a 10mm if necessary).
Dumbass. If you're going to stereotype, at least do it properly.
