i know that the black tops have a little more hp output than redtops. So i was wondering, why do people with s14s swap in a redtop. Is the red top substantially less expensive or somthing? i seem to always be seeing redtops in s14s. sorry if this is dumb.

i heard that the red top SRs are stronger as in they dont break down as easy and they are built stronger. the black top ones cant withstand as much abuse.

Redtop are not stronger.

Peeps with s14 swap redtops cause there cheap.

s13 redtop and s13 blacktop are the same.

S14 blacktop have more hp.

Redtop are not stronger.

Do research:eek:

dude yo i have a friend in oki who freakin specializes in engine work. ima pretty sure he knows what he is talkin about. i know s13 black and red tops have the same horsepower. the black tops are in 180s. the s14 and 15 have more horse power but they have a weaker head. or block i cant remeber. red tops are better for racing when you want to build an engine because the older design made it more reliable.

no no no. I think you misunderstood what your friend said.

S13 SR's have a high port intake manifold design which supposedly is better for flow

S14 SR's have a low port intake manifold design which supposedly is better for torque.

When getting high hp people often say it's better to have an s13 head as it flows better.

ye a mayB ur rite. well n-e wayz ill just email him and ask him. well for whatever reason, he gave me redtop engine instead of a blacktop engine for my dime anyways. he told me it was better. so its doesnt reallly matter. as long as it had an sr im fine with that. i think s13 sr's sound better.

you could've just gotten a blacktop S13 engine..... whenever I think about a redtop engine these days, the first thing that comes to mind is that it's at least what... like 8 years old? I wonder how many of those years were junkyard years....

Seriously. The redtop isn't stronger. You're not gonna build a 400hp sr motor, so there really isn't a ****ing difference. The redtop will have a ton more miles than the s14 motor, as well as a smaller turbo. Yes! You paid for a 220hp s14 motor with low(er) mileage and a t28, and you got a 205hp s13 motor with a million miles and a t25. Yet you're happy you got ripped off by this "friend" who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about! Why the hell would an s13 motor sound better?
This is the dumbest post in the past week, easily.
Anyway... cooldill, listen to foxcolt, who owns an sr, has done research and hasn't gotten ripped off in his transaction, rather than a newb ricer.

That's great that you live in Oki! Do they have the internet there? Oh, they do...now use it to learn about the engine rather than talking $hit! Your just a keyboard racer. And being in Oki doesn't prove you know about the engine.

ok so i would be better off getting a s14 blacktop? since it is a stronger (hp) motor and because there is less of a chance that its "old"? thanks.. u guys are so knowledgable:D

Dstyle you have no fawkin clue what you're talking about.
You realize we're all laughing at you cuz you're wrong on so many levels= not worth my time.

So anyway.......
cooldill: "you would be better off"
doing some research on your own- go look and past posts or just hang out for a couple months while you save money.
Money needed- 3-4 grand just to start, not including the car.
When you have the money then ask questions- right now just READ and learn- You're not up to speed so you are coming off as a newbie and are pretty annoying.

damn skippy.

he's right cooldill....pay attention. I want an SR too, but I've been doing RESEARCH. I'll post a question about the motor/swap on this site as a last resort. There's plenty of info already on this site about the sr, all you have to do is SEARCH FOR IT......geez man, this is just sad, really sad...
