In kind of a bind.. need advice

Ok.. I waited almost 3 months for my SSR Type F wheels. I received them last week. The lowest offset offered for the front 18x9 was +32.. ok so no big deal i bought some PBM 15mm spacers. My wheel shakes pretty good around 50-65 mph. Had my wheels rebalanced twice.. tires are brand new falken fk452.

I dont know what to do because the only way to get it not to shake is take off the spacers and not only will the wheels up front not look right but they wont clear my brakes either. So i dont know what to do.. they look so good I dont want to sell them.

Also I have the ssr hub rings and the spacers also came with rings themself.. and I am using both. I even had a tech at Lexus where i work part time take a look and he said everything looks good.. he's the one who balanced my wheels as well.

Need a solution.. with keeping the wheels.

Are you sure the spacers are centered?

I doubt it since the day i switched from my volks to these it started.. plus i only have 90k on my chassis

yea i have the extended stud spacers, they look like this

they are hubcentric with aluminum rings, also the ssr rings are aluminum and the spacers rings fit right snug into them.

Did your wheel shake when you had your old wheels + spacer?

Take a look at the back side of the wheels. If there's a problem with the spacer there might be wear marks on the mating surface.

Do SSRs and Volks use the same type of lug nuts?

so does the spacer have a hub centric ring for itself? or is it bored to fit perfectly on your hub?

If all else fails try differnt spacers, never had any problems with kics spacers

i like the above suggestion. try the spacers with your old rims, see if the issue persists.

i have tried 2 different sets of spacers with no difference, they have their own rings. I will try and put my old wheels on the front with the spacers and see if it still shakes..

Its not my tie rods or wheel bearings its either the wheels or spacers. I am 100% on that. Because literally right when i put the wheels and spacers on this started.

If it still shakes with the old wheels on, I will probably take the spacers off and try it out..

If it IS my spacers what can i do??

you got them balanced, good. i didnt read anything here about an alignment. did you get one cuz that sounds like the problem.

I've got the same tires on my fronts - huge mistake. They understeer like crazy with Federal 595SS on the back (not a "insanely sticky" tire), and my wheel shakes too. Can't wait to take those shits off and swap with some decent rubber.

Swap the other fronts on just to make sure it's not a stud or wheel bearing problem.

Lol @ the people thinking PBM bolt on spacers are dangerous/cause wheel shake/one brand is "cheaper" than another.

alignment was done just 1 month ago.. i have no fear of the spacers being "dangerous." obviously the ideal situation is to have the right offset wheels from the start. Too bad they just didnt come any lower. Kind of odd if you ask me.. The rear is perfect.

Also Dan from PBM agrees that spacers are not an ideal permanent solution and theres no guarantees on problems like this.

well it def. is the spacers but i had a theory.

these spacers have a seperate hub ring, some other brands have the ring built into the spacer itself so its one piece; kind of a lip that fits over the hub and into your wheels hub rings. I'm thinking I might try those and see if the shaking stops because thats 1 less seperate piece that needs to fit.

also my last thought about solving this would be.. is there some way my old studs are just barely touching the back of my wheel?

They are only 15mm so the studs still have a little length.. heres an example of cut studs with 15mm spacers

the OEM studs might need to be shortened so that my wheels can sit flush against the spacers!

Hahahahahhahhahahaha.

Some wheels have "cutouts" on the pad, so the wheel could still sit on the spacer, but most dont. Yes, you need to either use shorter studs (the correct idea) or cut those. Lol, yes, your vibration comes from the fact that your wheels arent touching your hub. Jesus man.

if the wheels have cutouts than try putting on the wheels without the hubcentric ring that PBM supplys with the spacers. your spacers are lug centric, and those wheels should be too, you dont need the hubcentric ring, it may be that ring thats causing the vibration. if the wheels are not cut out for those studs, CUT DOWN YOUR OLD ONES

these SSR wheels do NOT have cut outs. So my next step will be shortening my oem studs.

add slip on spacers until the studs dont come out.

or buy a bigger spacer.

Add a 5mm slip on that you find at Autozone/Pepboys wherever..

i would say to try and find the right size studs or slip on spacers.
Cutting them will signifigantly change the metal's properties and weaken the studs. Or take your time cutting them. Dont let them get super hot, and you should be ok.
