So I've been meaning to take the plunge for a minute now and I think I'm finally doing it! The car's purpose is for drifting so every upgrade is attention to the departments that are lacking... I'll use this thread as well to give you feedback on the parts I'm using, in case anyone has been considering these upgrades.

Here is the car...

Item 1: Control Arms & Tires

I've been meaning to do this one for some time now. My camber was all jacked up and making my wheels look sunken. So, I bought Circuit Sports Rear Traction Arms, RUCA's, and Toe rods. So to cover the suspension catagory we've got front camber plates, Tein tie rods, Nismo Power Brace, SPL subframe spacers, ST sway bars, Polly TC bushings and the Flex's with EDFC. After searching, I finally found a local shop that would let me back there while they did my alignment, so I've got -.05 degree camber all 4 corners and the car running straight as an arrow. The tires I bought we're a set of General Exclaim UHP 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear; nothing special but they hold up well to some tire spin.

I took us almost 30mins to get the car on the rack; actually ended up pulling to front bumper to clear the wheel stops in the front. After they got the sensors on there we found out that I pretty much got the camber by eye but the toe was all fu*ked up.

Item 2: Drivetrain

Currently I've got a factory s14 VLSD that has done pretty much all she can do for me; beats an open I guess. I've also got a 1 piece aluminum drive shaft from the driveshaft shop, a poly tranny mount from SPL, and spec Stage 3 6 puck with Spec 13lbs flywheel (I'll get back to that in a minute...). So to replace the Viscous unit, I got a KAAZ 2-way! Here is the progress on that...

I wonder if the fluid has ever been changed ( I bought this open from a friend:goodjob:)

new OEM front timing cover/oil pump
Revised OEM chain tensioner
Greddy oil pan
Cosworth 1.5mm metal head gasket
Refreshed head
JWT valve guides
New OEM valves and seals
HKS springs

Greddy turbo extension
Blitz down pipe
Nismo motor mounts
TAKA oil/coolent lines
Spec stage 3 6 puck
Spec 13lbs flywheel
Every single seal/gasket/o-ring OEM replaced
NGK iridium plugs

I had all the bottom end work done by Sammy himself at Tiger Racing. At this point I'm waiting on my new 20G and so misc. hardware that needs replacing.

As some of you might know, I've got an s14.5 that I stole most of these parts from. currently the car sits motorless and awaiting the relatively stock blacktop that sits in the blue car right now.

The goal is to have the blue car with the new motor tuned and running before the end of next month, but school and work are keeping me pretty busy.

As for the tuning aspect, I have a NIStune real time rom tuner with a Zeitronix wideband that I can monitor and make changes from with a laptop.

Everything to seal up an SR20det

My ultimate horsepower goal is only 450 MAX. I think I'll most likely run a mid to high 300hp boost level and call it good. If you tune the car right there is no need to replace the pistons; that only forces you to re-bore and spend more money. This setup can accommodate 500+, the weak links for SR's are in the rods anyways. Think about it this way, unless you are going for a high HP amount on a completely optimized setup, there is no reason to incure the extra cost. Its like, "why didn't you port match?" B/c you don't really need it. Sure you might see a slight HP gain but who cares when you have a 2800lbs vehicle that has 400hp. Then on top of all that, Nissan OEM is great stuff! These motors are incredibly strong in the first place.

The sr rods are pretty stout as they are, on the other hand the pistons can be weak. I think you may have your information backwards. I had stock sr piston fail on my 420 whp setup. Replaced all the pistons and reused stock rods. She still runs strong over 2 years later.

Hmm that is interesting, are you sure you can attribute the damage to piston failure. A close friend of mine is making 443rwhp on totally stock internals and beats the ever living crap out it at every drift event.

But either the case, I plan on running a stout 380ish and keep it reliable. I'm only running 245's

Still hot from the ride down. I've been doing all of my work over at my dads since I live in an apartment; they tend to frown apon this sorta automobile work in the parking lot.

If that's what came out of your car...then it was an open diff, not a VLSD.

Just a note, if someone later comes upon this thread and finds that pic to compare.

...FWIW.

Otherwise, nice work...keep it up.

I seriously procrastinated about doing an update so this will be a little behind the actual time. The next morning I got up and finished the install. Since I had trouble with that damn PS line I didn't take any completed shots from this day, but all is good b/c I just ran out side and took a few.

I changed the oil, swapped over the short shifter, swapped in an extra set of Nismo mounts, and cleaned the rest down a bit. Unfortunately the drive shaft bolts at the diff were stuck so I had to get my dads help and wrestle the engine in and line the shaft up; all I know is that cars were in the air, I was under one, there was a tranny over me and the damn turbo outlet was getting all hung up on the steering column.... Correct. The zenki chassis is the only 240 I've got a soft spot for. I've been building this car into my idea of a drift car since 04', its just been recently I've been able to afford serious modifications.

I had the same problem. So did that swap just take you a few hours, or did you not take pics for a while?

I did the swap in two days, but got distracted with some of the swap over issues (PS line, wiring, etc...) and forgot to post the other pictures.

The picture of the turbo was taken last night, and I've got some more I took today of some parts I made for it. I'll post those when I get out of work.

More updates...

Since the 20g doesn't have coupler connections on it I have two chooses: source out the s14 inlet and outlet castings OR make my own. Since I have the resources and am some what of a tight wad, I made my own...

On top of having access to these wonderful machines, I also have the privilege of working with a skilled machinist. This really helps when I can spend most of my time designing and detailing the parts and have Daniel produce them

I had to do a little house cleaning this after noon. I started thinking about it and realized it would make the install of the new motor go so much smoother if I could walk under the car, instead of scratching my back and crawling all over the ground. Previously, I had left the parts car over the pit to aid in strip down ,but the car ended up stuck, due to fact that it no longer had a suspension system, and I didn't exactly have a great way to move it. Well last week my dad calls me and suggested an idea on moving the car. He remembered that he had an extra boat trailer out in the field, from his 18' MAKO, and thought, maybe, we could some how get the shell on it. End of the story goes, an s14 shell WILL fit on an 18' MAKO trailer; so if anybody asks, that's the answer...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/DSC03160.jpg

I didn't fell so bad, because this was the damaged side, but something didn't quite feel right about doing this. I used the engine hoist, hooked to the cross member under the speaker deck, to support the rear of the car while be backed the trailer up. To help the hoist reach the speaker deck, we beat the shit out of the fender and gained a few extra inches; plus it made jacking the hydraulics more accessible. I then got a damaged hood I had, flipped it upside down, and placed it under the front cross member area; to aid in the sliding. Another great thing about this trailer is that it has a winch for pulling the boat, or 240 in this case, mounted by the tongue. Basically as my pops backed up I just kept winch'en the car onto the trailer. A big plus also, was the fact that the frame rails lined up with the carpet supports for the boat and she just slide right on.

I finally got the outlet flange made and the turbo installed and plumbed. Belts also came, so all I've got left to do is the coolant lines for the IACV, clutch and flywheel, finish up the oil lines and put it all in!

One thing to note for all you prospective 20G owners. If you have an S13 SR you might have to shave a little off the motor mount for clearance. I just eye balled it with some duck tape and went to town. After a little paint, it looks great and turbo doesn't hit.

You may be referring to your Zenki's gross vehicle weight, which is in the mid 3k lbs'. But thats not thier curb weight... lol... An s14 wieghing over 3000+ lbs...

Google says...

Curb Weight: The weight of a vehicle with a full tank of fuel and all necessary fluids but no passengers or cargo.

Vehicle Gross Weight: is the total weight of the loaded vehicle. This includes the vehicle itself and the cargo that is loaded within that vehicle.

zenki > s15 kouki

I agree, I bought this s14.5 from a friend who was getting out of 240's. I haven't done much to the outside of the car other than a wash and wax.

I got a good bit done to the car since my last post. Not this past weekend but the one before that, I was planning to get the SR into the blue car when the man let the rain down from up there:bowdown:. It didn't exactly rain; actually come to think of it, it just stayed wet and miserable. You know those days when its sorta misty out side, and there is that thought in the back of your head saying, "you know what..., I bet I could work on the car and not get THAT wet..." Yeah, so that kinda day. With the risk of getting certain components wet, I decided to borrow a pair of overalls from the pops, and get to cleaning the engine bay. I felt like this would be a great time to also plan for the rerouted battery cable (sorta a mess I've been meaning to fix, since the battery relocation), mount by boost controller solenoid, and clean up a few odds and ends. Here's how that went...

I know I look hot:fawk2:

...and this past weekend...

Got straight to dropping the motor, since I got so much time last weekend to sit and scrub. Working by myself has proven to be exhausting and slow, at best. I got the motor in and got straight to all the "little things" that make the whole picture.

Shhhh shhhh, this is a big moment...lets reflect:kiss:

:boink:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/DSC03192.jpg

Got straight to mounting everything up when I decided to do a little extra. I didn't like how the RSPL sat so far out in front of the car, so I machined down the spacer and cut the little fronts off my frame rails; good bye tow hook. Next weekend I'll make some brackets to weld on, since the ones on there were useless; I'm assuming s13 kit, but who knows. I did the coolant system, fuel lines, flywheel, clutch, throw out bearing, thrust bearing, some vacuum lines and the front mount

As I'm sure you guys are fully aware, finals are done, Christmas is behind us and we're looking at 2009 to be here pretty soon. Over my Christmas break, which was luckily about 7 straight days of freedom, thanks to my employer; I got a ton of work on the car done. For starters, the VSPL kit I had was for an s13, so I decided to modify it some. I cut the front of the frame rails down on the car, machined down the GReddy spacer and cut the lower brackets off, replacing them with some of my own design. Thanks to those efforts I now have a very snug, and well secured I might add, FMIC and on top of all that, an un-cut Navan bumper!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Christmaswiththefamily030.jpg

I'm still learning how to TIG weld properly so my "pennies" are a little jacked up compared to GReddy's
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Christmaswiththefamily029.jpg

After that I turned my attention back to the transmission. I did get the transmission in last time but ended up removing it again . Unfortunately I discovered that the aluminum sleeve the throw out bearing rides on, had broken from the 5 bolt aluminum piece that mounts in the bell housing. Since I was eager to get things moving I opt'd to use liquid gasket, since I couldn't find the factory gaskets I had bought. Long story short, I found them, pulled the tranny back off and fixed it properly.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Christmaswiththefamily052.jpg

Basically all the upgrades to the transmission include, B&M shifter, SPL poly bushing, Nismo slave cyl., new throw bearing, fluids, and aluminum drive shaft. The gearbox is factory and from what I've heard typically breaks down at the power level I'm going for. My hopes are that my clutch, not being ridiculously over rated, will fail before it does; we'll see I guess.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Christmaswiththefamily059.jpg

Next on the list was the throttle cable. Since I'm using a GReddy style intake manifold I wanted to do it up nice. After a little research I found out the S14 SR throttle pulley works out way better than the factory s13 one; plus it deletes the cruise control pulley. On top of that I made a little bent aluminum bracket that I think came out nice.

With the finish line in sight, I got to business and set the camera down for a minute. Everything else can be picked out from these next pictures....

With the aero back on, you can see how the IC sits really nice with the bumper. Also, if you'll notice, I'm utilizing the space where the A/C compressor went for the filter. I'm still undecided about how well I should protect the filter in that location but it sure does clean up that side of the engine bay. After that it was just a matter of running the harness, finishing up the coolant lines, and straightening everything up.

I love oil pits!

should start next weekend :2f2f:

only thing I would change is that filter location. God forbid the turbo start spooling when you're right over a puddle of water... you'll suck gallons. Now, if you got an undertray and got enough air in through where the fog light hole is, you might be a little safer.

Well guys, with the last of the holidays behind us, including my 08' holiday hours, I can proudly say that I have done it. After all the sweat, hours of work, freezing hands, and busted knuckles; the car is running!:boink:

Starting from where I left off last time, the harness was the first on the list of things to finish. Unfortunately the weather wasn't very cooperative this weekend, but I pressed on anyways (ya'll can laugh at my outfits). Since I was using the harness from the original setup in the black car, I had to remove the SAFC wiring and swap wiper motor plugs (another diff. between Kouki and Zenki chassis). After that was all straightened up I turned my attention to the lower transmission harness. Since my chassis was originally an automatic, I've had a mess down there for years. I split apart my automatic harness, pulled the FSM out, and got to work.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Jan09progress013.jpg

you can't tell, but in a scale of how mad I can get; this is about an 8 out 10 right here. Cold ass temperatures mixed with dewy fog and the thought that yesterday and the day before were right at ideal, just irritated the fu*k out of me.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Jan09progress015.jpg

look at this, WTF!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Jan09progress016.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Jan09progress023.jpg

After the wiring was complete, I put the battery on charge and got to finishing up the boost sources for the various gauges; then ran the lines for the catch can. Since I don't exactly have an intake "pipe", I didn't have anywhere to connect my catch can to, so I found an aluminum hose barb I had and turned it down on the lathe. Right in the middle of that, I ran down to Home Depot and grabbed some E-clips to make my "quick tap". here's how that looked...

The shop is a little messy, but it gets the job done!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Jan09progress019.jpg

I turned the threaded end of the barb down for the inside of the coupler and then made a small groove for the E-clip.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/Jan09progress022.jpg

I didn't plan for a cock tease, but with all the excitement, I somehow forgot to take a final picture of the engine bay; fail, I know...

BUT, I did get her all washed up and snapped an outside shot. I will take some of the engine bay, once the weather clears up.

Since I'm still doing the break in and can't exactly romp down on it, it feels pretty laggy; in comparison to the black car (T25 SR). I'm sure once I get the car on a dyno and tuned properly, there will be a dramatic difference. With similiar mods, I've seen over 400rwhp out of this sort of set up!

I've decide to go with a much more aggressive wheel setup; since I'm planning to stay OEM aero. I bought a set of J-Line 7SL2, F/18x9.5 +18 & R/18x9.5 +13. I figure since the body is simple I need to complement with some simple wheels. Once the wheels get here, I plan to mount 225's up front and 245's in the rear. I had the wheels repolished because apparently there was some tire dissmounting damage plus the aluminum was looking a little dull. Here is a shot of them after polished; the tires will be here soon.:bump:

So I've continued my progress on the issue I've been having with my A/F's; but really haven't gotten anywhere. I have, although, pulled the exhaust manifold to replace the leaky gasket with a Mr.Gasket seal. And in the mean time, took advantage of the removal to install an EGT sensor for my Zeitronix unit. I know most people drill the manifold, but given that mine is a tubular and I wasn't in the mood to weld on a bung I choose to drilled and tap my turbo (yep, drilled a hole right in the side of the turbine housing). I like this much better, b/c it keeps the sensor base out of the "flow" and gives the senor a good grip. I also took the time to figure out my USB converter for the Nistune system. I took a few pictures but they're with my cell phone and it was a little dark in the shop. Aside from all the troubles, my WHEELS ARE HERE!!! I will get them mounted tonight but here is a another teaser pic.

The OEM gasket disintegrated, for lack of a better word; which was weird since it was only on there for 300 miles. Can you tell where it was leaking....?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/DSC00485.jpg

Even though it WAS wrapped, I decided to remove it. I guess from being on there for a few years, the wrapping sorta of fell apart. The biggest pain was every time I worked in that area, I would get fiberglass in my skin and the wrench would enevitably tear the fabric. when I removed it, it literately fell apart as I pulled on it. I cleaned the manifold up with a scotch brite pad and reinstalled it. I might wrap it later but at the moment, I'm happy with it gone. I guess the heat shield for the BMC is going back on... (notice the EGT sensor sticking out)

OK.... so I'm still working on the car. I know its about time to see some dyno sheets, but I don't have them yet...I have yet to figure out why my A/F's go so rich on decel and it doesn't help that I get distracted with all these side projects. With that having said, here is another side project. Since I've left the realm of BPU's, I've decided its too risky NOT to have gauges on the car. Sooooo....I went out and got me a set of STRi, X-Line series 60mm gauges.

Here is a close up of one. the flash from the camera is why you can see them...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/STRiX-Linegauges.jpg

Since I plan to do a cage, at some point, I decided to ditch the a-pillar pod and just get down to making a custom piece for the dash. This is what I got done last night....

The tape is a regular painters tape, but in the widest I could find it...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/DSC00495.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/DSC00496.jpg

I used an X-Acto to cut out my template (If you attempt to do this yourself, make sure you keep the knife slightly angled away from the dash material. I didn't cut mine, but a razor will pass right through that vinyl without you ever feeling a thing)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/DSC00497.jpg

Since I put about 4 layers of tape on it, it holds it shape really well. I stuck it to a piece of cardboard and started bending it to match the dash.

Since I've got a large plotter at work, I plan to model the dash panel in Inventor and print out some 1:1 pieces. Once I get some concrete dimensions and a perfect fit, I'll have the panel, and the gauge holes, liquid flow cut out of aluminum. I'll post more, once I get more done...

The sr rods are pretty stout as they are, on the other hand the pistons can be weak. I think you may have your information backwards. I had stock sr piston fail on my 420 whp setup. Replaced all the pistons and reused stock rods. She still runs strong over 2 years later.

no you would be wrong that motor can safely handle anything between 500 and 600 hp to the wheels

So I finally got around to putting the panel into Inventor. Once I can be sure the panel will fit properly, I'll have the flat pattern cut out, as I said. Here is one idea for the gauge layout. The 4 holes are obviously the 60mm gauges. The larger square opening is for the Zeitronix Wideband, the smaller rectangular one is for the EDFC, and the last one, with the radius on one side, is for the SBCi-d EBC. I also took some time to figure out the maximum throw of the B&M shifter and design the hole to suit. Once I make the panel and am confident it won't change, I'll weld some tabs on the backside to snap into the clip points the OEM trim used. I'll also weld on some brackets to support the various electronics, and give everything a uniform flush-ness.

Well I got to working on the car last night and got a few things done. For starters, I built a boost leak tester and found out that my charge system is leaking in a few different places. Most of which were fixed by adding a clamp or tightening the existing one. After fixing those, I noticed I was still hearing a leak somewhere around the manifold. Turns out, the intake manifold flange gasket was leaking on three of the four runners. Most people would be pissed to discover this, but I had my fingers crossed that this was the culprit behind my weird A/F symptoms. So instead of using another OEM gasket, I bought a Circuit Sports thermal intake gasket and some gasket tack spray. Here's how that went...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/IMG_0419.jpg

After bolting everything back up, I took it out for a spin. It seems to run a bit better but the symptoms still remain and the car is still running rich as hell. I'm running out of idea's here....

After messing with the motor and pretty much getting no where, I decided its time to roll/pull my fenders. Overall I think I did about a 1-2" pull and I think it came out really well. Forgive the pictures, it was late and the overhead lights make it hard to see well.

Ok, so I've figured it out! It turns out that the TPS had bumped adjustment, and so the ECU always thought the TB was just a little bit open; hence the dumping fuel on decel symptoms... Now that that's solved, not to mention every other little issue, ranging from massive vacuum leaks to PS leaks, the car is FOR SURE ready to go. As for the miles count, I'm pretty close to 500, so there will be no concern of anything not being adequately broken in. What I do want to get done, are the gauges. Tonight, I finally made time to form out the flat pattern for the dash panel; I picked it up yesterday from the flow jet place. I may have been a little ambitious to get it cut out of 5052 1/8" aluminum plate, but at least it will be sturdy... I tried running it through my sheet metal roller and it just bowed the rollers:-/. I finally ended up clamping it to the edge of a rounded counter, with a piece of angle iron. I proceeded to beat it....:boink:

Thanks! I wouldn't mind building another one, but I would like to do it out of a thinner material; although I love how stout mine feels. The only pain, was that is took so long to form, due to the material thickness. Also I wouldn't be sure how to market the product (custom layouts etc...); my time can get expensive...

So I got to wiring the other night and figuring out the mounting for the panel. After turning over some intricate bracket design, I finally landed on a simple and extremely effective way to mount the panel. I cut 4 small pieces of aluminum 1/2" x 1/8" Eq. angle. After that, I applied strips of the soft style velcro to the dash board and dash panel. Lastly, I used Dual-Lock hook-and-loop Velcro for the angle pieces. When combined, you get a retardedly strong Velcro action; I'm not even sure if Velcro's tried this. Since I got the fitment on the Wideband display and the EBC just right, they actually just pinch in place. As for the bigger EDFC controller, I bent two little pieces of 1" aluminum bar stock and TIG welded them on the back. The STRi gauges are held on by the brackets provided; minus their little feet for dash mounting.

Here is a night shot of the interior...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/IMG_0602.jpg

Since I've decided to change the gauge theme, I removed my factory, white faced, SE cluster for a German Spec 200sx cluster. This will be great since, they match the STRi displays, after I get some white LED's, and they read up to 160MPH:2f2f:, plus the redline is appropriate for SR...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/IMG_0603.jpg
A couple of other difference I've noticed, the "F" and "E" on the fuel gauge aren't there, neither are the "C" and "H" for the temp gauge. Another weird change is the e-brake light, instead of saying "BRAKE" it now has a little exclamation point "(!)"

Still workin on it...

Its been a minute since much has really happened. The faulty boost gauge was replaced after a two week delay from STRi... kinda gay... Formula D Atlanta cropped up, and since Road A is only about 45mins away, and I can't get in contact with the tuner, I took the car and enjoyed an off weekend. For some reason, my ignition switch decided to take a shit on me; leaving me stranded at Road Atlanta on Saturday night...45 minutes after finding that out, Terry's Towing was here to save the day; yay, 75 dollar flat bed ride to the house. Didn't really do much to the car for about a week, so I got to it this weekend...

Task 1: Turn all of this "mess" into something more manageable but not exactly get to redoing the chassis harness. This is a picture of behind the dash, its slightly dated b/c its a picture that I took back in mid 2005 or something... The point to take is that's a lot of shit, and none of it really does much for me that I couldn't do without...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/s14dash002.jpg

Fast forward to present... Here is most of that stuff out of the car

All the shit removed behind the dash...Enter Alex...:rawk:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/cleanoutbehinddash005.jpg

Finally The Results!

Well June 12th has come and gone and I've got good news from it and bad news... The bad news is that the shitty actuator, provided with the FP 20G, leaks boost during the initial spool up; causing my graph to look like an N/A platform. Also the tuner had a few software issues with the Nistune. On top of it being his first time on this system, some values wouldn't cooperate with his direction; I plan to get more information on those particular issues and some answers from Nistune. I'm not the most computer savy, so I wasn't much help. Fortunately we got the car tuned and running well. It put down 394hp/296tq @ 17psi on a Dynojet in ground dyno. As you'll see in graph, with the late boost, my torque curve suffered. I plan to get that sorted with an HKS actuator, and re-tune. Some more good news, for my wallet especially, the car only took about 2 hrs and we didn't run into ANY mechanical problems; what a relief for me...:werd:

It's been a minute since much has happened; mainly due to my work load and some vacation scheduling. I've given my self an outline of a few things problematic with the car, and I want to see if I can't make it a little more drivable. As you know with an atmospheric BOV you can have idle issues, and since I'm using Nistune I can't exactly "trick" the ECU. To coincide with that, the tuner suggested that distancing my MAFS from the compressor might help some of the stall issues. So I've moved the BOV over to the hot pipe, made a recirc. fitting and am building an intake with all of the appropriate fittings. Aside from that, I'm replacing the originally equipt forced performance actuator with an HKS one; I'm hoping that will help the slow boost issue. Next is the problem of the leaking Tomei Expreme. I contacted Tomei and they were excellent! They replaced my manifold with an brand new one and the turn around was amazing; this is why you buy quality stuff. So that's going on, plus I decided to ceramic coat the turbine housing, dump pipe, and the manifold. I couldn't exactly do much without the turbo back on the car, so with the parts back, here's where I'm at.

They sent me the whole kit, what a champ

Here's my little "home made" recirc. fitting for an older style HKS SSQV
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/ProgresscontinuesJuly09002.jpg

Parts back from Ceramic coating. I was backwards on some stuff. I didn't realize this stuff goes on like paint, it's baked on, but isn't applied by a P/C method. Anyways, it came out pretty sweet...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/CeramicCoating002.jpg

Last time I had the turbo off, I installed an EGT for my Zeitronix unit and broke a tap. Once I carefully removed the rest of the broken tap, I called it good. When I got to installing the EGT, I realized the projection wasn't very far. I've been meaning to fix that too, but I didn't want to run the risk of getting shavings in the turbo; now was a good time to fix that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/20GReassemblePainting1.jpg

Also looked like the wastegate fell shut before the coating could dry; there was an uneven finish and I didn't want to take any chances. you could tell it sealed better after the sanding.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v721/s14unimog/20GReassemblePainting2.jpg

HKS actuator, its used so I cleaned it up... I promise its a real one.

You had it running better, in the sense that it wouldn't stall out completely when falling to an idle, but raising the idle is not the correct way to fix the issue. I don't want to be sitting in grid and have my car idling at 1200RPM... We can't forget what the problem is here and recirculation of the BOV is a tried and true method used by various OEM manufactures. Secondly the Z32 MAFS was never rated for pressure. I've seen countless sealing issues from others who have attempted this route. There are alternatives to using the entire sensor in line, but I'm not so much interested in the headaches that will ensue. Anything outside an SAFC, or comparable system that tricks the ECU, I can't correctly fix the issue and I refuse to change other perimeters just to deal with a problem; and it is a problem. you know all of this Brandon...

Started the reinstall and assembly of the exhaust system. I love pretty parts!

Here is something I noticed on my old manifold. The Tomei Expreme flange face misses every other rivet on the layered gasket, except this middle one. After inspected the one I returned to Tomei, I noticed a small circular indention on the flange face. At first I didn't think much of it but I realized that is was caused by this center rivet

Since there are 4 other ones on the gasket and none of them fall under the flange face, I decided to drill it out and remove it.

I guess I misread what you were doing with the bov, I thought you said you were going to move it, I didnt realize you were going recirc. That should work great. If you were going to go blow through I was going to suggest a ford maf.

Anyways, I really dont consider raising the idle a patch for a problem, but it is the cure for a problem. That cool sound you get when you have lopy cams is because your engine is running poorly at idle. There isnt enough air speed entering the cylinder. That causes a weaker mixture of air and fuel which is usually suffering at idle on our small motors when idling at 600 rpms with such large injectors. I really didnt mess with any settings that should not be messed with, they are all there to make the car run good and I did that minus the high idle you didnt like.

Either way, your engine is looking tits, and recirculation of the bov should fix the issue. Are you coming up to nashville the 22nd? You need to hit up some of the events this way.

The reason why I consider it a patch is because there is an obvious problem with metered air escaping from an otherwise airtight system. The computer has read an amount, supplied the appropriate amount of fuel, and its not there anymore. So by raising the idle, we're attempting to fix a problem that was caused by an atmospheric release. I know you didn't do anything inappropriate and it has nothing to do with the sound of my idle; which is not a symptom of a poorly running engine. That noise you are hearing is called cam overlap, which I'm sure you are aware of, and is merely the product of the split second the intake and exhaust valves are opened simultaneously. If I wanted to really take advantage of the potential of these 264's, I would get a set of adjustable cam sprockets and proceed to spend $$$ on the dyno figuring the best mechanical timing for my setup. I would lose the lope then... With recirculating, I know the problem will be correctly cured and I can rest assured that on an 80mph entry, where the engine might have a chance to hit idle, It wont shut down. ontop of that, I avoid anomalies in my air/fuel readings.

I would love to get out to some events but first the car needs to be 100%. on top of that, I need more wheels! Since, I've moved into the higher power range and pulled the body to accommodate the new wheels, I can't so much as slap on a set of s14 SE wheels, lol! I've been keeping my eye out for a hauler too, I think the days of driving to events are almost over with. I'm lucky I can drive it to the store without to much attention :coolugh:

just a question about your swap. i did an s13 sr into my zenki too and my stock temp. gauge reads almost fully hot even when the car is still cold. the car doesn't overheat it's just something wrong with the gauge i'm guessing... have you had the same problem? any suggestions?

Mine have been replaced about 4 years ago. I wish I knew what I know now and spent the money on the German ones; but they weren't as widely known back then. I will buy the German ones, I'm not a fan of the clear lenses.

I would almost bet its just b/c you have the factory SR20 coolant temp sensor in there. Go buy one for the 240sx/ka24de.

Once I get everything back up and running, I'll make sure to get some video. This thing sounds awesome pulling away.

You should see it in person. Its all around clean. Not the biggest attention getter in the whole world but to me that means it was cleanly done.

Brandon is a cool dude too. I cant wait to see this car get involved in some of the events I attend.

What can you say, Nissan did a good job with that aero.

My favorite was the USDM 96' grille I had in there, but for some reason it doesn't flow with the current look. I really like the idea of no grille but it looks a little funky since there you can see the hood latch and upper front mount tab. I still plan to find an oil cooler that fits but I have been a little preoccupied with other things.
