You don't measure SR valve shim with feeler gauges, it's not that way.
Nissan have a specify tools to measure them. It goes into the lifter hole and has a dial gauges on it. Tools #; KV10115700
On shim side (flat shim), measure the difference between contact surfaces of rocker arm guides (shim where the rocker goes in it) and valve stem ends (Where the top of the valve is locked into the retainer).
Here's a pictures to show you, I'm not good at explaining, lol.

there is a guy on FreshAlloy that rents the tool for like $60, althought its not the FSM one, its a machined plate that bolts to the head that you put a dial gauge into. his user name is a2low240

then it's called a dial indicator.
You dont use a feeler gauge to check which shims to use. You can use a dial indicator but your dial indiciator has to be setup to sit inside the HLA so you can get accurate readings. So you have to have the correct tool. I have not found the Nissan tool to buy anywhere yet but from what I understand its around $400+.
Still looking for this tool. Anyone have one?
