View Full Version : Fuel Pumps: Walbro vs. Z32

Lately my 91 240sx Fastback has been jerking a lot. I was thinking about gettin a new fuel pump wondering if it was worth it going to a junkyard trying to find an old 300zx fuel pump. Or would it be better to go on ebay and order a brand new fuel pump worth $100 and s+h which would be $10. Anyone got any comments?

Get the walbro... It's new and it's a very good unit.

But before paying big money for a fuel pump, you might consider checking other things such as fuel filter...

And then the 300zx pump is supposed to be held on with bandclamps and crap. Doesn't seem very sturdy to me. On the other hand, the fuel pump supposedly flows more fuel than the 255L/hr hi-pressure pump.

The thought of a new fuel pump is wut i'm really leaning toward, but is there really a difference between how much fuel is getting pumped? I mean I dont want any more jerking and i just barely changed my filter and was thinking about putting Z32 filter later

Are you turbo or planning to go turbo? If not, it doesn't matter which pump you take.

Well this question is a bit off topic. Anyway in my S13 I'm planning on doing a moderate N/A tune, no turbo. The car is mainly used for daily driving ofcourse, auto-x and drift days. Anywho my question is, is it worthwhile to upgrade to any pump? If so which should I consider and how much fuel pressure?? Thanks everyone, Jason.

The :(SAD:( truth is I got a stock KA but planning to go turbo within 2 months and still looking for a front clip for cheap, u knoe motor, tranny, ecu, etc. but lyk yah. ANYWAYS, yes it's a little off topic and I'm just really irritated from my car jerking and dying off sometimes, especially when someone's behind me and they cut in front looking crazy at my broke down car. It's even more weird when i take right turns, it jerks, and dies out. I had a feeling that if i took out my air filter then my car wouldn't jerk at much, and it didn't.

your problem does not sound like fuel pump, I would check other things. Ignition sounds like a good place to start. I wouldn't get a upgraded pump untill you are ready for it. If you run a high flow high pressure pump with the stock pressure regulator, it won't be able to flow enough to handle all that fuel at idle (when the injectors aren't taking much fuel out of the rail) Therefore it will be quite rich at idle since the fuel pressure will rise. That will make it run crappy.

Only the Z32 pumps do that. Even the 255lph high pressure Walbro pump doesn't pump enough fuel to override the stock FPR at idle. Also, this is only an idle problem...it isn't going to cause you to run rich anywhere else.

But...if you aren't going to go turbo, you don't need to upgrade your fuel pump. Also, I have never heard of a 240SX fuel pump going out...and your problem doesn't sound like a fuel pump problem...so don't waste your money.

What fuel regulator are you running? I have heard that the stock fpr will increase fuel pressure 8-10psi.

might have a bad spark plug....had the problem awhile back.

as far as fuel pump the walbro is good for the money...can't go wrong for 125 bucks

i agree, its $125, easy to install and probly the last pump youll ever need:)

I just recently changed my spark plugs along with my oil, spent just enough to say my problem's in the pump. It really bugs, and I'm probably gonna go with the walbro since I dont know where else to trouble shoot, hopefully I will go turbo within the next 2 months but for now I think i'm just going to need a fuel pump.

this is one of those crappy problems to have because it could be a few things, but i also didn't think it was a plug because i changed mine not 2 weeks before that. What i did was i used one to switch between cyclinders until i found a bad one....the bad thing it was the last one i swapped that was a bad one :/

also what plug wires are you using....the bosch wires you see at advanced auto are crap :/

Stock plug wires are the best!

And I am using a stock FPR with a 190lph Walbro pump, for he who asked. I'll be upgrading to a 255lph high pressure pump when I get 10 minutes to work on it, for safety.

Do you guys know the part number for the S13 255 Walbro pump? I bought one for my B13 SE-R but I might put it in the 240 instead if its the same.

Is it weird to have a gasoline smell after pumping 91 octane? I've driven it all day. And there's no leaking, but the thing is when I put STP Octane boost it's like a waterfall under my tank....?

If your having a problem with the timing chain (giving some slack) your car doesn't squeak. I'm having trouble with mine and its causing irregular idle.
