I bought a used exhaust system...really used....and I noticed that there is a screw in the bottom that looks like it will allow me to take the muffelr apart and repack it. Question is, is that what that screw does? and what do I pack it with?

Thanks...here's a pic of the muffler and you can see the screw on the bottom of the tip

Advice, never buy a used exhaust unless you can see it in person or from a person you trust.

The screw in the tip looks like its for a silencer.

You probably won't be able to rebuild your muff. Might have to just replace it.

never heard of rebuilding a mufler... If your mufler is bad, you're going to have to just buy a new one... as far as I know and yes, that olt looks like it is there to hold the silencer in place.. Do you have any other pictures of the muffler so we can see the screw a little better?

haha, I'm an idiot.....turns out that the screw was holding the silencer in. *see attachment* I didn't want to mess with it becuase I was thinking about taking it back only problem is that I would have to pay shipping...I think I will keep it.

BTW, there are rebuildable mufflers out there, just, unfortunately not mine

Also, I found this

http://www.off-road.com/dirtbike/tech/2002mufflertech/

it might be for bikes and such but I don't see why it wouldn't work for our cars.
