sup sup ! i just got a pair of kyb gr2. About to install it untill my buddy told me it would be 2 days to install all 4. I am willing to do it but i was wondering is there any rookie mistakes i should look out for? i read a thread about the bolt so i'm pretty sure i might have that issue so i went to get the craftman thing already :bigok:. I've had several stripped nuts already so. Any INFO would be good. Thanks guy. See pple you guys at the drift event at IRWINDALE NOVEMBER!!!!!!

um i wouldn't recommend this for someone with no experience. disassembling springs/shocks can be potentially dangerous if you don't know how to use a spring compressor. get help from someone knowledgeable. an air compressor helps alot too. air tools ftw!
it should not take 2 days tho.

Are you just installing the two struts or have you purchased aftermarket springs and mounts also?
If not, I would suggest waiting until you bought some springs and mounts before doing it so it's just a simple in out swap. You'll regret having to compress the springs without the proper tools.
Get somebody that knows what they are doing. Rent a spring compressor from your local auto parts. Springs can be dangerous, and dont let your "friend" help. Shouldn't take more than 30min including jacking up the car/removing wheels.

these tutorials are for replacing the stock shocks. i had trouble getting the center nut off on the rear shocks. it might be easier if you loosen the nut a bit before compressing spring. or not.

It will not take you 2 days if you have the right tools should take you about 2 hours I got my shocks and springs done in 2 hours with the help of a friend. But if you do not have the right tools it will take much longer so good luck =]

Technical Articles: Megan Racing Coilover Install (s13) (http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=224455)
It took me two solid days but I was working on a side street with no garage and everything that could go wrong went wrong. I did the front first and it went smoother than the rear. dont forget to seal the top of shocks or all the exhaust and noise will come inside. they do have rubber caps which are important.

It does not take two days.
It's pretty straight forward.
You can rent spring/coil compressors from AutoZone or places like that. Usually $40 deposit and you get it back when you return them. They are pretty self explanatory.
The link above explains it enough.
should take no longer than 6 hours if you know what your doing.

I can get in done in 2 hours by myself if i do it "correctly" with a spring compressor. Take half the time if i just shoot out the springs.

check the shock wells for rust . sand and coat with that tar stuff. my front struts really bad. last place to dry as wheels throw up water.
search youtube for spring compressor if you want to see what happens when you dont use compressor.

This took me 6 hours when I was 17 with no prior mechanical experience. Never used a spring compressor, but I'm sure this was plenty dangerous.

freal ? hahah it took me an hour ? so are you putting the springs from the other ones to your kyb's ? if so you'll be needing a spring compressorrrrrr. also you might wanna hand tighten the bolts before you use the ractchet so you dont strip anything...
p.s you might need an extra jack to make life easier when you put the front suspension back on...

It took me one day to do all four myself (first time too).
Go to Auto Zone and rent a spring compressor (there's a $40 deposit), I ending up buying one and I have never used it since then.
All I have to say is that you will definably need to wear some good mechanic gloves when you are compressing the springs. I made several rookie mistakes and had my finger get caught and smashed in between the strut and spring. I had no one around me to help get my finger out (it will be your longest two minutes of your life), so it would be smart to have someone with you to spot you.
All I have to say about installing stock style suspension is that the scissor jack will save you lots of time and work.

Quoted for truth. Don't be like me and wind up with a broken metacarpal. Breaking bones in the top of your hand = not fun at all.
...For the record, I DO know how to use a spring compressor... I just brain farted and forgot to use it on that occasion...
