Help buying a sr20 240sx. please reply!

hey everyone.. so i have $2600 saved up and decided to check check craigslist for a 240sx and wound up finding an sr20 one for $3300 or best offer. i decided to pm him and give him my offer of $2600 and he said ok. the car looks to be in good shape and the guy sent me a video of the car running. i just need advice on if i should grab this up because i know for the price its good.. but idk if something could be wrong with the car.. what should i check when i meet up with the guy to look at it. i also plan to bring my friend who built his own ka-t.

If you wanna get an SR powered 240sx then buy it, your gonna have to learn sometime. I would be cautious tough, that piping isn't aluminum (or those are the worst tig welds ive ever seen) and if a seller is going to lie about something what else is he not telling you about the car. Look for signs of abuse/poor maintenance. Dose the car smoke, whats the oil look like, how does the car drive, hidden body damage these are things you are going to want to look at when buying a car. You should find someone who has more experience with cars/240sx to go look at the car with you. I myself wouldn't buy the car
seeing the condition it is in. Also if you save a couple more dollars you could get a much cleaner s13, so that might be something to think of.

i have a s13 hatch.. and i know about the ka.. just not sr.


and the reason i might be picking this up is because i blew my engine in my s13 (hit a dip in the parkway and crushed oil pan) and i need a dd for now until i can find a ka for a reasonable price. (junk yards around here want like 600-700 for the engine alone)

Dude if you already have an s13 and near $3000 then do a swap yourself, or get on the boards and find someone local selling a KA they are not exactly a rare item. I wouldnt even consider buying another car when the only thing keeping the car i have down is an engine especially if i have 2600 bucks to play with, but that just how i think.

i've looked and searched for ka's in ny but couldn't find any.. im gonna make some more wtb threads and see what happens. worste case scenerio i think i might get myself a nice dd for like 4,000 and just build a ka over the winter.

hear the winding noise? might be a tranny problem. but no biggie you can get anther trans for 300 bux. if you know what your doing with the car sure why not. make sure you go there in person first and inspect the motor. make sure there isnt any knocking or leaking.

its really not hard to do a swap now a days.

It doesnt even have power steering.. wtf... SR car for 3k isnt bad.. however that one is... everyone has got to learn sometime. I bought my first s13 in a stubbornly, and in a rush and got BONED TO HELL!!!! The motor blew 3 months after i bought it, if you want it cool, and from the looks of it you already bought it so youre at a point of no return, work with what you got, or take that sr out rebuild it and find another cleaner shell... or do like everyone else who blows an sr for poor maintenance, all the sudden hates it, and buys an RB20 since theyre "invincible" hahahhahahahha. doing a swap the right way with a good engine will cost more than 3k. i wouldnt buy that.

Eh, I'd atleast check it out...just get in the mindset that your just gonna check it out first, do not commit to buying it before you get there just cuz youre already there. Check the compression, turbo, test drive it, park it and raise the rev slowly to 3k-4k rpm (if it has a rod knock, you'll fucking hear it). Hell, if the guy would let you, drop the damn oil pan and see if you strike gold (copper color really, thats the sign the rod bearings are done).
