It's a resonator box, and it's also the air supply for the AIV.
S14s have no AIV.

Hey man...
the AIV (Air Induction Valve), an emissions control instrument, lets air into the exhaust manifold that activates the catalytic converter.
I suggest keeping the valve in its place. However, whether or not you decide to remove the valve is up to you. If you dont care about **** coming out of your tailpipe, then removing it wouldn't cause any harm.
Hope that helps...

where'd you get that info.. i couldnt find it under search...
-also...i plan of keeping it there but capping off the tube from it to the intake piping. b.c i'm moving my intake to the other side of the engine bay when creating my new intake after moving my battery.

probably just the heat shield, BUT, if your cat is blown it could very well rattle from the chunks of catalyst breaking up.

Geez...
The AIV exists only to let fresh air into the exhaust at idle. This keeps the cat hot and happy.
If you have no cat, it is useless.
But you should have a cat if you drive your car on the street.
