hey im in the process of changing my head gasket on my 89 ka. i was just wondering if anyone has some kind of advise while im doing it. anything else i should change while im at it? and also how could i get the timing chain off of the cam gear so i can remove the cylinder head? if anyone could just give me a little advise i would greatly apreciate it. thanks

theres a tensioner that tensions the timing chain. remove that and the chain will come loose. look for a FSM should guide u through the whole thing.

Do you have the fsm? I just know how to post a pic from it as its in pdf format but it will show you everything.

fsm? is that like a chiltons manual? if so then no i do not. it might help if i bought one though. lol

ok so all i really need right now is someone to tell me how to get the timing chain off of the cam gear. any pointers anyone?

Ive just got through doing this last week haha. Well the way i did it was I just undid the two cam gears... and the chain came off by itself. Just jam something between the gear and the timing chain so you can wrench off the bolt easy. You just do both at the same time, that would get the timing chain off pretty easy.

just make sure you mark where the chain goes before you take it off, or else you have to figure it out again.
